Burger Tuning JB4 for Kia Stinger!

Terry, appear to be having issues with my plugs densos 1 step colder... debating between the denso 5347 2 step and the HKS have you heard any issues with the HKS?

What's the issue? We've sold maybe 15,000 DENSO 1step plugs and rarely have any issues with them.

Had a CEL come on tonight while WOT car sputtered and wouldn’t go, running really rough until it got so bad I pulled over shut it down and restarted it and CEL gone, going to try and get it scanned to know which one it might of been, just wasn’t sure if this was common or known... also running secondary ark pipe, and been noticing issues since adding them but could be coincidental.

Sounds like a misfire code. Read the codes and see what it is. The plugs should last 10-15k miles at least, how long have you had them in?

That’s the thing I thought with the JB4 I could get the code but when I searched for codes nothing came up.. and I’ve had them about 20-25k Km’s so about 15,000 miles which makes sense if they’re only good for about that.

Oh maybe you cleared the codes? Should be there waiting to be read. Anyway 15k it's plausible. I'd see if it's a trend or an outlier. Misfires can also be caused by failing coils or fuel injectors. Or tuning issues.

Correct cylinder 2 misfire, can this be prevented by replacing with 2 steps colder? I’m getting more recommendations to go with HKS, just hard to know if 2 step colder would be a solution or if Densos are more the issue.

If it's a trend pull the plug in #2 and see how it looks, if needed replace it. HKS plugs are fine too but service life isn't any better than Denso from what I've seen and they cost 2x more.

How was your experience with them? is the car faster?

The car is tremendously faster and more responsive than anything I would have ever expected with a 3.3TT. I used to have a 2007 dodge magnum srt8 (6.1L hemi) with CAI and diablo tune and this blows it away - that's the first time I've ever wanted to admit that about any other vehicle. Whether I'm stopped or in motion, the car roars to life. Minimal turbo lag and monster boost that is both constant and smooth across the power range. I've been on Continental ExtremeContact Sports for about a year and I clearly need to replace and/or upgrade them in order to hook because the response is so damn quick. What Terry is developing feels like an adrenaline shot on steroids. Anyone that craves being thrown into the back of their seat (aka all of us) should keep an eye on this.

I would be curious to know as well how you fair with it ?
which map are you using ?

Now this is where it gets interesting. I run an e30 blend with 93 and no more than 5gal of e85. The first time I got everything to work correctly, I started with map0. When I switched to map1, I instantly knew something special was happening. After a few WOT runs, I progressed to map2 and the difference was so much more than I was expecting. WOT a couple more times and then map3. I thought I was prepared for it, but wrong again. Then I realized I had been in comfort mode the entire time... Switching to sport at that moment felt like riding an angry unicorn. Literally speaking, I'm not prepared for map4 and haven't used launch mode at all. Safety first, then new tires, and finally proper fuel before the next magic carpet ride... I've been using map3 with e30 as my daily driver long before EWG, but I'm in no rush to wear out this thrill anytime soon.

For anyone interested, I've merely added BMS intakes along with the fuel wires for the JB4 (densos). This is completely by design because Terry has made everything crazy easy to remove in case I have to go in for any warranty work (same reason I sprang for his OCC). Thankfully, I haven't had any reason to bring it to the dealership - but I'm not willing to take any chances. And as for exhaust, I love a quiet cabin - but show me a system that has absolutely zero drone and I'll trade you my amazing flea circus.

Would you mind sharing what user settings and firmware you have? I am simply going off the recommendations from this thread. Still happy with the performance so for but if there can be more...

This might bring some people back down to earth. After finishing the physical install (simple, 30 min), I made a firmware jump from 13 to 16 and, in user adjustments, set duty bias to 50 all the way down, FF to 50, PID gain to 20, and Auto Shift Reduction to 60. This didn't yield the intended results as my first test run had no throttle response, boost, or anything that even resembled my stock engine. Nothing changed after flashing down to 14 except for some undefined code which I immediately cleared and hasn't returned. So I decided to throw in the towel by updating to 15 so I could use bit5 to deactivate the EWG system. Now I'm not sure what bit5 is supposed to be labeled, and I can't recall at the moment what it says in my app, but it's not exactly an apparent EWG on/off switch. As noted earlier, however, I'm using the beta version of the JB4 app on my pixel 4xl - but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with my situation. Anyways, without knowing how to turn it off, I left for the post office to mail a dirty diaper to Terry. Before pulling out of the driveway, however, I changed FF to 60 and tried bit3 in the WMI menu (still using v15). After that, I decided it was best to pass the post office because it's too dangerous to stop when you've hit ludicrous speed.

Due to the foregoing issues I had with the app/firmware, I haven't updated beyond 15.

Wow what a great post. Thanks for sharing!

Sounds like I'll have to do some more testing. This car, especially with a JB4 is just so damn fun.

Yes the E85 bit option was a common EWG setup detail missed, so we eliminated the need for it in v16.

"dumb" question.
I ordered a package that included BT jb4.
Will it be easy to install and connect stuff. I dont remember the install instructions i've probably seen months ago.

I also will get the boom-juice-plugs, hopefully pre-sized i believe it is.

BT just plugs in to the JB4. Easy.

EWG connector faults are not going to damage your car. If no light in dash then likely not an active issue. If you can't clear faults ign on engine off then just remove the EWG connectors from the wastegates if you want to uninstall them. Normally if you can't find any obvious cause you'd attach just one EWG connector at a time to isolate the one causing the issue.

For EWG troubleshooting and assistance use the EWG specific n54tech.com thread.

At the risk of sounding new at this because I am I've been running jb4 map 2 for 9 months or so and love it. I'm ready to start trying higher maps but am finding mixed reviews on running higher levels of ethanol on NON stinger vehicles. What's easier mixing e85 or

Option 2 water meth injection? I like the jb4 integration of their system. Plus easier to consistently mix.

Thoughts?

I'm ready to start trying higher maps but am finding mixed reviews on running higher levels of ethanol. Is it true that running 30% ethonal can possibly cause problems with wearing down fuel lines and ect. over the long term. It's a daily driver for many years to come. There is also the added problem of constantly measuring gas at different pumps to get the same consistent mix.

Option 2 water meth injection seems to have less possible side effects and I like the jb4 integration of their system. Plus easier to consistently mix.

Thoughts?

Where are you reading mixed reviews exactly? 30% E85 is pretty problem free on the platform.

Yes the BT Connect kit is super easy to add. I did have to trim back the jacket a bit as I couldn't get the enclosure well, closed enough as it was. Hopefully shouldn't be an issue.

It should squeeze in there but I like the tape over it too. We've adjusted the v3.7 to a single thicker wire bundle without the external wire.
