Navigation Update V14 due out April 20, 2020

With the disclaimer that the download option is not available for all models, does anyone know for sure if the download option will be available for the Stinger?
Will it install over the original SD card, or will it require the purchase of a new SD card to permanently replace the old one? Or do you just temporarily use a USB flash drive? If I have to buy a dedicated SD card anyway I might as well just buy Kia's and not worry about making my own install disk.

A good chance it will be available for the Stinger. I bought a new card to install my last update and kept the old one as a backup but I think this time, I'll just install over the current card since I still have the original as my backup.

Not sure anyone can answer the question about the disclaimer but the download will write to any compatible SD card you provide. I always like to save the current card off to the side just in case. The download will completely overwrite the previous version if you reuse the same card.

If you don't mind, what were the size and specs of the replacement card you used? I have a 64GB Class 10 PNY SDXC I was intending to use. I have found with previous cars that a faster card can improve some NAV functions. I was please to see the OEM card was SDXC.

Is 16 GB the minimum requirement?

I just bought a Sandisk 32gb Class 10 UHS-1 card. It's a sdhc, not sdxc since I haven't heard anything about sdxc improving nav functions before nor did I know that the oem card was sdxc.

Well, I'm glad I checked just now because my OEM card is indeed SDHC rather than SDXC. Not sure my intended replacement card will work now. I guess I'll see.

Also I was looking on the install instruction and it says if you are on a newer MAP version then NA.11.41.52 V12 you will only get the map update.

No new features are updated.

Can anyone confirm this?

Without the updates I don't think this update is worth it unless you really use the navigation feature heavily...

Thank you

So software updates are still going to be $149 through Kia, but just map updates are cheaper now?

Interesting. I would have guessed that the system doesn't even use the SD card after it has copied the data over (i.e. you could remove the card afterwards with no impact). TIL.

The first car I had with built-in nav (2005 Acura TL) ran directly off a dedicated DVD. The nav system would not operate without the disc inserted. Updates required purchasing a replacement DVD at no small expense. My last two cars (2015 Mazda 6, 2018 Subaru Forester) relied on SD cards. The OEM on the Mazda was a small class 3 card and it was a big insider hack to upgrade to a larger, faster SD card to be able to sideload pictures and run the nav system faster. I didn't mess with the Forester card other than to upload a few wallpapers for the display. Unless the Stinger supports SDXC cards (I'm guessing unlikely) there is probably no room for upgrades.

What's the most recent software versions? I just picked up my stinger Saturday and don't have anything to compare with yet.

I'll wait and see if the free download site ever starts working since I have a SD card lying around somewhere.

You can find your current version in the Setup menu under System Info.

That part I know, I'm looking for the most recent update versions. I don't know if mine is or not.

v13.5 is the latest currently available.

It is - in fact - not that easy.

For example.

Version 13.0 = (NAM.12.41.51) (in Canada),(this version BROKE the online local search)
Version 13.5 = (NAM.12.47.44.xxx) - I am using this version today.
Version 14.0 = (NAM.13.41.42.xxx) - available for purchase + shipping. (you can not download this version today)

Why do they not put the version number in the "version info" is beyond me.
