the photos i took above were before the installer did the heating and bending, so he must have moved it back a bit. the passenger muffler pipes are now inside the stock diffuser ones as in the photo. driver side they are same. I also ordered some wrap to try to seal up the opening.
not sure about tips, since the alignment isn't 100% right -- i'd probably have to go back to the muffler shop to get them to line up right before the tips worked out. I hope between sliding the pass. side back and getting the wrap on there that I can get that drone out. otherwise it'll probably be back to stock and a FS post in the classifieds for me.
I've had aftermarket exhausts on every BMW I owned, and none of them did this. I attribute some of it to the complete lack of insulation back in the hatch area, but i already applied dynamat and an extra thick layer of rubber weightlifting mat back there and under the back
seat, which helped for road noise, but not so much for the exhaust.
