Frameless Auto Dimming and Universal Remote Rear View Mirror

If you have the compass then you have 12v in that harness. It’s a matter of jumping it to pin 10.

Yeah, was thinking about just bridging 6 and 10 on the mirror side with something inside the connector, but that seems slightly unsafe. Was hoping there was some kind of kit out there that would work as an "add a wire" and let me install a female connector in the harness tapped off of 6, or something just plug and go that did that for me already. Lol.

Didn't really want to install a tap up there and bypass the harness if I didn't have to.

If it were me, I’d get this harness:

10 Pin Gentex GNTX-533 GNTX-536 GNTX-1124 Homelink® Mirror Wiring Pigtail | eBay

From there I’d spice behind the factory connector, which is long so you have room, to the corresponding pin locations that are in the factory harness (4 out of 5). The last remaining wire is the one that I’d run to switched accessory or ignition.

Use the new connector to power the mirror and tuck the old connector and excess wiring in the headliner to revert to stock if ever needed.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. I have a 2020 GT with auto dimming but no Homelink or compass. Based on the below image and pin out, If I buy a Homelink mirror could I not just jumper the 10 pin and 6 pin on the mirror side for everything to work?Mirror Pin out.webp

Are you sure pin 10 isn't already wired in the harness? You can almost certainly just plug in the new mirror and run.

That's what I am hoping. The new mirror will be here tomorrow so I will find out. I was trying to get some research done beforehand. Thanks for the response.

Put a meter on it.

Bridging them means if you get it wrong, you're back-feeding the ignition circuit from the permanent positive battery connection.

Removing the mirror is super easy. 2 minutes, tops? Might need a set of torx wrenches. Just pop it off and take a gander.

My car did have a homelink mirror to begin with, but no backlight and the thick frame. I took the long way around this, but I've ended up with the perfect mirror.

- frameless gentex autodim mirror
- homelink v5 (tells you when door is closed with LEDs inside mirror) with backlit buttons
- red compass

step 1. purchase 2017+ subaru legacy mirror from ebay. DO NOT buy the one with the eyesight camera. Gentex 1427, model aechl5. I found one for $90. YMMV.
step 2. remove wiring harness from stock mirror.
step 3. install old harness into new mirror.
step 4. install new mirror into car.
step 5. enjoy your new frameless mirror with full functionality. side mirrors dim, compass turns off with ignition, homelink buttons still work.

opening the mirror is easy with a long, wide plastic pry tool. there are three t20 screws inside to remove the cabling harness. new mirror only has 1.

Sorry trying to understand what is that 3rd picture with the wires/connector from?

Is that a dashcam behind your new mirror or part of it?

Yeah, its the blackvue dash cam with the rear camera option. Tapped in to the driver side fuse box for power.

Ah ok thanks should of known. Do you like the mirror? In pictures, it looks like the frame/edges are shiny so wouldn't that be distracting if the sun would hit it? Do you recommend the mirror?

I recommend it if you like the look of it. I'm not a fan of bezels on screens, mirrors, or anything just in my personal preference, so I didn't think twice about adding this mirror. As far as reflections, I haven't noticed any glare or problems. Only thing different is a slightly bigger front field of view (can see the dash cam now) and I can still see out of the back window without moving around. Also, all the features work perfectly (auto dimming, home link, and compass).

I got it off ebay for $150 but that was my initial offer (listed at $169), so you might be able to get it cheaper.

Great thanks for the info, I may look into getting this one then.

what is the link for the pre-converted subaru one? wish i had known that before i went nuts trying to figure out the wiring pinout. might want to get one for the wife once i get her into a telluride or palisade next year.

BTW- I am really happy with my subie mirror.

I think you order directly from ecko04 himself. He's offered this in the past, as well as other things like jb4 fuel control wire p-n-p harnesses, etc..
