• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Kia Stinger - Australia discussions (pre-release)

Looks like 1785 kg for 330 SI model and 1855 for AWD going off this video
around the 3.10 min
I'm assuming that's kerb weight

4100lbs. ......d*mn.
I am not sure if all the crash test requirements are the same between the US and Korea. If anything needs to be "altered" to meet US standards it may be even heavier when it reaches our shores.

So looks like 1785kg for Aussie GT. Maybe a bit less for the 300s or 300si.

Being on the heavier side, should help with that GT type ride quality targetted. The adjustable suspension tuning allowing for more than decent performance ride modes.

It will be ever so slightly heavier than a the outgoing Holden Commodore SSV redline 6.2l V8 (1758kg) but stinger is testing quicker to 100kmph (4.9 vs 5.29sec) and the ride is certainly being talked up to match this straight-line performance.

I guess we'll see soon.

Just got an email from my Kia dealer, great news for me and possibly some others on this Forum but bad news for many more (unless their patient, really patient).
He told me that mine is ordered and that's it for their Dealership as Kia Motors Australia has only been allocated around 1 car per dealership and mine was the first order so a few will miss out.

I'm feeling pretty good right now but sad for others.
He also said there won't be any further updates for around 4 weeks, and after that he'll let me know on the progress of 'MY' car as it becomes available.

Yea there will be a backlog of orders for the first 6 months or so i think.

Sounds like it's a Mustang sort of waiting list here in Australia as he mentioned it will be launched globally (Possibly in the states as well) in the same month so they will need a lot of cars allocated.

Just called my dealer and he confirmed my order is in and will be 1 of the first to get 1. He also stated that he didn't think there were going to be many around for test drives like the mustard.

Mine's been ordered too. But that's all it is (an order) until final specs, price, and a test drive.

Apparently only 1 per dealer too.
I'd be extremely pissed to find out it was fanged about by the dealerships service and/or sales team before pickup.
What is the normal pickup km when buying a brand new vehicle, less than 10km (~6 miles)?

Aussie magazine Wheels has released a story on the leaked specs for the Stinger. More concerning is that they state Korean kias are usually 3 to 4 K cheaper that the Aussie market. They are saying the stinger could land on our shores with a low 60K price tag.

Cheers Richard, found the link (inserted above).

Wonder if they qualified in their Korea price comparison (which is dubious at best, btw) that all the Aus bound Stingers will not be AWD. There is some cost saving in that alone.

Further to this, there appears to be far less option packs too (maybe none, looks like paint only, thank goodness) which should also help with the firming of model pricing at both ends (factory-showroom)

Kia needs to be really careful to price in a competitive price range to succeed. They've spoken of fleet sales, so the models aimed in these spaces need to be priced very well. The 4 turbo needs to start under $40k and the V6 need to starts a good step under $50k too, I would think. Looking into Kia's own stables....the bottom spec Stinger (200S) can't be on par with the top spec Optima GT, as is being suggested in this article, that is nonsensical. Maybe a start price closer to $40k or under ($39990 sounds enticing) without the options, would be more on the money.

Anyway I'm sure Kia Aus is all over this, so just tell us the prices already...please!

I'm hearing ya. App mastery What other options are you looking at if not the Kia stinger? I liked the look of the new VW Arteon coming to replace the Passat but they are saying that will be in the mid 60K range.

Cool Richard - No others really, Stinger was/still is it.

Performance-Luxury options look thin at this price point (new). Might look at a Ford Mustang but not sold on quality? Holden does not do it for me. Skoda in an Sportline or RS maybe? Wife likes the Mazda MX5s. Sure, the VW Arteon does sound good so far, looks not quite for me, but who knows might be awesome. Might just save some or save up my money and look back into a Porsche Cayman (be a used one though) to get my sport performance car fix. Then wait a few more years till I'm older and get into a more sensible BMW M or Audi S. I'd look at the Genesis Gs or the next line of Stinger too. I know there is a massive difference in vehicle types in there, as this car purchase will be a "full luxury" item for us, it fills no need only a "want".

Saying all that, I currently have my heart set on this new Stinger GT, it makes the most sense at this point in my life (...wife, kids, work, finances, time).

I'm sure the Stinger appeals to many other Australians too, with all the press, forums and comments flying around, it certainly appears to be. Seems some dedicated performance buyers, family car buyers, luxury car buyers, fleet buyers, brand shoppers too, and the likes of me - are all looking. So I really hope it is successful and I can stick around here as an "enthusiast" for many years to come...

Not to sound like a fanboy, but there really is no competition for this car. I am not due to replace my car till 2019/ early 2020, but unless something major comes out over the next couple of years (nothing in the pipeline close to the stinger as yet; the G70 will likely be more $$), I can safely say this thing is going to be on the very top of the list.

On price in AUD- my thoughts are (+ORC on all):
2.0S- 42k
2.0SI- 45k
GTLine 2.0- 48k

3.3S- 51k
3.3Si-54k
GT-57k

I think KIA will keep the psychological trump card of being >60k for a large RWD performance sports car.

Sorry, do you mean <60K (less than) , not >60k (more than 60K)?

So...... I just had a call from my dealer here in NZ. He said pricing isn't yet confirmed, but it is going to be $76,490 NZD. That's starting to get up there. Specs we already know - Same as Auz. Kia will be doing an opening special which should be a decent discount.

The first shipment will be landing here in September for the official launch on the 1st of October. My dealer has ordered 10 out of the first shipment. Of the 10, only 2 are the 2.0 models. Apparently there is reasonable interest in them too. Naturally other dealers will choose what they want to order, so there is reasonable supply. Better than the 1 car per dealer in Auz.

I've got my order in for the top spec GT in Panthera Metal. All subject to a test drive and finalising my buy price. Basically just confirming I can have a car from the first lot and can get out of it for any reason if we can't come to a deal that I'm happy with or don't like the car. That's pretty fair I think.

Any more news out there??

I know right. They are trying to pitch it at Audi A5/S5 etc and other European models. Same spec and performance they reckon, yet still coming in at the same Commodore Redline price (which four fifths of bugger all bought anyway). They will lose a lot of potential buyers.
