Square Setup for GT

Suspension & Tire Gurus: What are your thoughts on running a square (equal width) setup on the GT? According to a vendor on another forum, the car below is running 245/35/20 tires on 20x9 wheels. No offset information is provided but its likely in the 40ish area.

Not being a huge fan of the stock 19" wheels a thought was to relegate them to winter duty with stock size winter tires, purchase a set of 19" summer wheels and run 255/35/19 all around. I'd reuse the stock rear tires and purchase 2 new PS4's for the front.

Good idea? Stupid Idea? Mess up the handling? Haven't seen it discussed before so I'm just throwing it out there, partly out of curiosity and partly due to an earlier request fro fresh threads on the forum.

If you are going wider in the front you’ll gain a bit better traction up front, so less pushing through a corner.

There is no harm in going to a square set up. Generally there isn’t the same amount of room up front to run as of wide wheels/tires as the rear. But if the specs are true in that pic then there is on the Stinger.

The 19s run pretty firm , 20's for me would like riding on a roller skate , staggered set up looks better and is designed for better handling but it depends on your driving style , my$.02

I just ordered a set of 20x9 +38mm offset for all 4 corners of my Stinger. I don't see any harm in it.

Actually, staggered setup is designed for traction, not handling. Styling is a big part of the equation, too.

I've actually wondered this after seeing the car in person, the front tires have a slight stretch to them on the wheel. Seems like there is room there to go 235, or probably up to the 255 of the rears. I think they can take the car even further but they held back a bit to give the G70 an advantage while still making it an exciting drive or the KIA side. Would love to hear from those that go with a square setup if the handling changes any.

To revive an old thread...I would love to know this too. I don’t have much tire/wheel knowledge at all, but I know I wanna do a square setup, just for the sake of tire life.

@toyboy1980 Okay. You want to buy another set of rear OE wheels?! Because that is the only way to put rears in front and use 255/35ZR19 square, using the OE wheels. In other discussions of the offset requirements, I know that I've read of others using 255/35ZR19 successfully in front on different wheels; the tire clears, so, it's just a matter of if the rim's offset will clear. You'll maybe want to rethink this, because buying another set of OE rear wheels will set you back more than a thousand bucks!? You can get a set of four aftermarket forged wheels for not a lot more than that. I have as my summer wheels a set that is 8.5" wide with offset 40 in front. I don't think that the OE 8.5" rear rim is that close; so, getting a second set to run square in front should work, if you insist on going that route.

OEM rear won't work on the front cause it won't clear the big brakes because of the offset.

Aftermarket Wheels will work! I'm running a square set up with 19X8.5 with 255's all around.

Well, I'm mistaken again, then. Do you happen to know what the offset number of the OE rear wheel is?

I think it's 46.5mm offset

Thanks for the replies everybody. I had found some new OEM rears for $250 each, but it looks like they won’t work up front because of the brakes? I really do like the look of the OEMs. Is it a stupid notion to put the OEM fronts on the rear? Would that work, sizing wise?

Is the correct bolt pattern 5-114.3?

Like what I've said above running 255's all around with bolt pattern 5X114.3 with 19X8.5 +30 Offset All Around. Wheels is ESR RF2! Lighter than the OEM wheels.
