Concerns - Popping/Creaking Noise from Sunroof

So who here is the South Florida Kia tech? I just took my car to the dealer this morning and they fixed the sunroof 100%. I want to know if you work for Gunther Kia.

I have no idea what they did !though, I won’t get my paperwork until i come back for other service they need to order parts for.
It would be great if you could find out exactly what they did!

I will for sure, I just hope it stays. But I took every damn twist, ramp and bump I drive on the way home that normally would creak and click. Nothing so far!

Ok nice. Yeah I was working on it with some techs so they were ready for you lol. BTW if you need intake I have a brand new in the box AEM for sale.

That’s good news - I hope it stays that way. I’d really appreciate detailed info on what they did. Cheers!

I mean I don’t need an intake... but it would be nice. :) How much? Also since you work there, how friendly is Gunther Kia with mods?

I'm selling it for $370 barand new never used. As for mods somebody came in the other day with a jb4 hooked up and their car wouldn't start. our guys were willing to stay hush on the jb4, and actually asked me to disconnect it if they needed to to get it approved for warranty. Luckily nothing was wrong with the engine. the person's gas tank was reading half tank but was empty.

Let us know what the fix was.

What day did you get your car done? I'm asking the Techs now what they did to fix it. I want to find out before they leave.

It was Friday at 8:30 am - 2018 Silky Silver GT2. Constantine was the rep.

After 13 months, 13k miles I started hearing a creaking or tapping noise from front right/passenger side of sunroof. I rarely use the thing, but the noise (kind of like big raindrops or sleet would make if hitting the glass) is really annoying. I think it just started with cooler temps. Anyway, since i can't afford that Japanese Shiba Inu grease (besides, is it even ethical to use?), I opted to try dialectric grease which I had on hand. Carefully applied with a towel to the sunroof weather stripping/seal areas that i could easily reach, and for now the noise seems to have disappeared.

This is very similar to my scenario. Except my dealer did the same with little to no effect.

FYI, came across a TSB for the '15-16 Genesis sunroof noises, TSB number 19-BD-001H. The TL;DR is:

Step "0", See if noise exists with sunroof tilted up.
Step 1, lube all seals and looks like lube tracks, test for noise.
Step 2, Tighten all fasteners and Loctite when reinstalling (done by partially dropping the headliner)
Step 3 (or 2.5? lol), Remove sunroof glass, remove rear locator and apply felt (looks like on the bottom) and lube.

It's for a Genesis and not the Stinger, but might be useful information to Kia when looking at this. The design is definitely similar for the moving parts by the looks of it.

This is similar to Kamauxx's fix, but in the rear.

Sunroof Details

Guys I won’t find out what they did until I they get the roof strips, paint them, and install them. :( I am out of town so I have not driven enough to say it will stay 100% fixed. It was for the 3 days I drove it before I left.

And I've been super busy selling cars it's been a crazy last 2 weeks. I tried to find out what tech did it but nobody could tell me. Constantine doesn't remember who you are somehow. SMH.

Your service department just tries random fixes for things? No one has to remember a specific car; just say what they do for this particular problem or look up in the computer what was done the last time that problem was brought into the shop.

Why is this (generally, not just this instance) so shrouded in mystery and lack of transparency?

Becase its being run by Democrats! Lmao! Constantine is new and was busy the day I asked him so... Plus he needs his @edgarciadesign full name or number and I didn't have either. I'm not friends with every tech so I just asked the ones I know. None of them did it. I'll find out soon.

I am Eduardo Garcia with the Silver GT2 2018, 8:30 AM appointment on Friday 10/11.

He may not find it because the person that took the appointment over the phone did this: "This is a reminder for your upcoming appointment with Gunther Kia. We look forward to servicing your 2018 Kia SPORTAGE on 10/11/2019 at 8:30 AM."

So far, so good, I don't know what type of magic trick they did but it is gone as of this morning (driven 3 days out of 7 since service). ONLY sound I hear is the back doors rubber seals that need some treatment, but only when the car twist like a ramp and such. Sunroof click sound is 100% gone right now - closed, shade open, popped up and fully open.

The problems I described and they fixed were "clicking sunroof sound on top of the front passenger head. And noise behind the dome light, sounded like a cable was bouncing when going over bumps".

Fantastic. Can't wait for confirmation of what they actually did.
