Australia-Specific Kia Stinger Discussion

Hi All,

Hope that you've been well. Not great driving weather at the moment. The Great Ocean Road would be a great drive in warmer weather.
Had confirmation that my car is due for the end of this month, so I expect pick up in the first week of September.

Those that have had the ceramic paint protection, do you think that it's worth while? I have seen some things online where people in the industry have said that it is overrated. What do you think?
Do it, you won’t regret it, also get paint protection film on front bumper and if you can afford it on the bonnet aswell as it chips easy with stones.

Ceramic coating is worth it, especially in regards to ease of cleaning the vehicle. But in hind site I would have added protection to the bonnet as ceramic coating does not stop stone chips:(

I had PPF and ceramic and think it is worth it, I intend keeping my car for a long time.

Random question for Australian Stinger owners - could someone please measure the widest part of the boot for me. Salesperson I'm dealing with told me it was just over a metre, but I think he measured between the wheel arches, and not in the wells just ahead of that. I read elsewhere on these forums it was around 128cm, but that was overseas model so not sure if there is a difference with Aus model. Would be nice if Kia actually provided these vital statistics.

The overseas model is the same as everywhere else. So assuming someone knew how to operate a tape measure I'd take their measure as being correct.
I do know the widest width ,mirror to mirror is 187cm.

92cm behind seats and 128cm behind wheel wells.

Personally I've never applied it, l believe any good brand of polymer wax's & polish's keep your car pristine...My last car paint was perfect, red in colour no swirl marks etc...make sure you buy yourself a snow foam canon...good car wash and use 2 bucket wash system.
If you want ceramic coating buy online and apply it yourself easy as..and not expensive..don't get ripped by Dealership...l agree PPF would be a far better investment though..cheers

Agree, and also a lot of satisfaction in DIY. I prepped and applied 3 coats for <$100.

Buy a car dryer if you really care about your paint, water filter also if your keen.

Don't get it from a dealership, but rather have a proper detailer put it on. Then it's absolutely worth it - they'll correct any issues with your paint, and then coat it in effectively what is a layer of glass. It really helps to prevent damage to the paint over time due to environmental conditions (sun, weather, etc). It won't protect you against stone-chips though, for that you want PPF (do that after the ceramic coating, so that when the PPF is removed, the paint isn't two different colours).

I got mine done by a mobile applicator they use the Ceramic pro product. Each year to maintain the warranty they come out and reapply some product. This years cost $69. The shine is impressive. And water beads nicely.

Sorry Guys and Gals but everyone is obsessed with Ceramic Coating, l worked as a spray-painter for 28yrs mainly on Mercs..Bmw's...did heaps of resto's etc and then it was oh get your car Ming coated. As a painter if any of these products worked as amazingly as they claimed l would never of been able to paint over the stuff..you gotta remember these cars are baked at factory not the old days like when Holden only had Acrylic on them, you can wipe the paint with thinners and it wont harm it. Like i said if you wash your cars PROPERLY and polish them with a QUALITY brand of polish..use Micro Fibre always to polish and dry off Car then it will stay in pristine condition..Stop being obsessed with Ceramic..lf your Car's paint is beading when you wash it thats enough.
Heres my 3yr old Navara no Ceramic on it and no Swirl marks either

Yeah, Ming was shit, that much is for certain.

And yes, it's absolutely possible to look after paint well - but the ceramic makes it easier. It is night and day different to bare paint and clearcoat. I love a good was, but synthetic sealants wear longer, and the ceramics last longer again.

Washing the car regularly is good advice, and using correct techniques makes a massive difference - power rinse to clean loose dirt, then now foam to start, two bucket method, never wash in a circular motion, etc.

But please, be careful with polish - use a wax or sealant regularly, sure, but polish is an abrasive (albeit a fine one). You can use it to bring out a shine or restore shine to a full surface, but once that's done, repeated use of a polish should not be necessary (and may in fact over time thin your paint out or remove your clear-coat).

Spot on!
It’s dealer hype which has now manifested itself to every car detailer corner store going.

I don't have the back I used to, it's a real effort to wash & wax the car, bending down repeatedly is out for me. So coating was a no brainer for me.

Ceramic coatings are worth it, I can fart near my car and it’ll dry off.
