ADD-W1 v3.3 Dual Inlet

Anyone got a good tutorial on the install for the ADD-W1 v3.3 Dual Inlet Catch Can for the 3.3L? I'm not getting a good vibe from the install instuctions...

Maybe it's just me...!
 
I just used the instructions. There is a video on YouTube, it is only helpful in the sense that it corroborates the directions that come with the kit.

If you have any questions, I just did the install two weeks ago.

Got it done. Wasn't too bad, had some minor issues that took longer than it should have. I do hate the hose clamps, so I may redo the hoses such that you see minimal clampage. Yeah, I made that up. Drove about 110 miles and the car didn't blow up, so looking good so far...

So did any of you guys have consumption or blow by issues prior to installing your CC, or did you guys just want to be part of the cool kids club? I have no blow by or consumption issues. I'm pretty hesitant to even bother.

How many miles do you have? My guess is not enough for it to matter yet. If you are in a lease or don't plan on keeping the car long probably not worth it. For someone like me that keeps cars 10+ years at a time (last car Nissan Titan 11 years 210k miles) I think it will save me from having to have my valves walnut blasted in the future based on my research.

I had the problem in both my Optimas and really wanted to minimize how often I had to walnut blast this car. It is a problem with any GDI motor. I get about several tablespoons of oil every 3k miles in my can.

Thank you for answering. I'm familiar with carbon buildup on valves in GTDI platforms. My thought was that the masses were doing it to be part of the crowd. I haven't ever gotten more blow by than enough to coat the tip of my finger on the intake side. On the crankcase said the factory breather is practically bare, as it should be. As for buildup most normal buildup is broken up with...right foot exercises. Intake and valve cleaners are additives in many high end fuels anyway.

Sorry, it didn't clearly answer your question. What I was trying to say based off research I've done is that if you're not keeping the car why would you care about build up over long periods of ownership therefore not worth the money to add it. If you watch his video after 3k miles he had some in there so it's catching something.

The buildup happens on the backs of the valves. Fuel is directly sprayed into the cylinders so any fuel additive isn't going to do anything for you as the fuel never hits the back of the valves where the build up is happening.

This is one of the many videos I've watched talking about direct injection and why the valves get carbon build up and why fuel additives and other cleaning methods don't work all that well and why you will end up having to use walnut shell blasting.

Not saying I'm an expert or that I'm right I could be totally wrong but everything I read says this is a good idea if you plan to keep the car long term which I plan to do.

But the fuel doesn't ever hit the IM side of the intake valve so how do those fuel additives clean that? WMI will keep them cleaner since that is introduced in the charge pipe, but that only works while you are spraying...

I like to keep it simple. I have a dual inlet catch can. There is oil in it. If it wasn't for the catch can, where would this oil be? Where did this oil come from? Hmmm. :ninja:

Probably not a net "positive" compared to a true catch can, but I'll be changing the oil every 3-4K anyway.. With ~7L of oil, a few drops of bad oil shouldn't matter, IMHO. In my mind, it's better than letting that oil go into the intake, not as good as catching it and draining it. But way less hassle.
