Intake Comparison

I read through just about all this thread, but still can't seem to find the consensus best "bang for buck" intakes? Mainly in terms of power increases, not necessary noise?

I may be a little biased, but I did a lot of research myself and still believe DIY intakes are the best bang for the buck. Mine were only about $100 total with heat shielding included and has the same or better performance than most intakes available right now.

I’d say JTs with custom air inlets, or SSRs front mounted intakes may have slightly better performance, but both cost 7-8 times as much.o_O

Just as Stungblue said....the best bang for the buck is his DIY intakes...got mine done for less than 90 bills....the filter placement is just about like the Injen intake.....knocked 2 tenths off my 0 to 60 time....try it...if you can chew gum and walk at the same time you can do this mod !:) Wash

Three awards need to be given:
1. Best performance for bucks
2. Best performance regardless of the bucks
3. Best sound

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Thanks Stung/Wash.

I guess I'm also looking for best bang-for-buck for pre-fab. I CAN build a DIY, but I'm also a bit pressed for time lately.. However, autozone just sent me $7 off 30 and $15 off 50 (maybe) coupons.. That's $20 off, so even more tempting..

Would Vellossa Tech snorkels help that?

Also waiting for [Edit: wrong user] ecko04's Wagner intercooler review. Installation issues notwithstanding, sounds like it's a definite upgrade..

That's a pretty tough ask. Somebody would have to have all of them available, install each in turn, dyno and/or road performance test them on the same car under the same conditions, plus provide an entirely subjective opinion on which 'sounded best' - which may or may not agree with anybody else's 'best' criteria. Pretty much the same as trying to find the 'best' exhaust system.

I bought the Injen intakes because I think they are the best looking of the products currently for sale, and don't have the fitment issues that a number of the competitors do. I figure that any open filter intake is going to provide similar sound and 'potential' power gains - which I suspect is not a great deal, if any, under most 'normal' driving conditions.

Yes, they cost more than a DIY solution - but the appearance to me is worth it. I also like the fact that they majority of the time they are relatively silent - they only start to speak up when you put your foot into it.

I agree with everything except this statement. 15-25whp & Wtq is one of the biggest gains from one mod you can get on our Stingers.

Can I ask thoughts on k&n typhoon?
Good plastic shield partition and quality filter....seems rarely mention here and I was wondering why?

Finished my DIY intake this weekend and looking at the piping and all , I dont see how KN or BMS could be any better IMO ... same same all around.
Now Injen has different piping and is oriented right where the air duct is (though you could technically do the same thing with the DIY minus the heat shields) and the JT is super good looking and probably gets way more air flow however you are looking at x$$$ plus bumper removal ...

I am on team DIY intake and quite happy with the overall look , sound and hopefully soon the notice performance :p:p

Hmmmm, you say chew and walk at the same time. Folks can do that?

Few reasons. It was one of the first intakes made for our Stingers and some reported fitment issues. It has one of the lowest power gains compared to other intakes. And other big brand names have made similar or better intakes so the interest for that one has died down.

I know a couple people with K&Ns and like them, but one traded up the the AP intakes and like it better.

Again, most intakes are very similar in sounds & performance so it basically comes down to $ and personal preference.

Injen is louder than the K&N because the K&N is partially surrounded by a plastic shield which muffles the sound. The Injen intakes are completely exposed and louder
I hope its not too loud... I ordered one few days ago. :D

I love the way mine sounds; that with the Borla cat back exhaust are music to my ears :)

My exhaust is stock so it should be a big change. :D

I just installed TMS Intakes on my 3.3T. I don't notice any sound difference when cruising down the highway. It is noticeable for the first 20 seconds after you start the car, during rapid acceleration and the blow-off when you let off the throttle.

So, at this point, it is perfect for what I wanted.
