Uvo display restarting itself

Hey everyone. I just recently purchased a 2018 gt1 a few days ago and for the first 2 days, everything was great. Then some glitches started with android auto working initially and then suddenly, the next day it wasnt being recognized anymore using the exact same cable as the previous day. Now another day later, I got in my car to go home tonight and my entire unit keeps cycling on and off at the safety confirmation screen. I looked at the manual and tried resetting the unit but that didnt solve anything. Has anyone else had this or should I just take it in to a dealership? Would prefer not to if there is anything I can do.

I made an appointment earlier with the closest dealership and they won't be able to see me till Thursday but thanks guys. I agreed that it was just past my expertise to get it fixed. I'll update here to help anyone that may get this problem in the future.

2019 GT2 owner here, just experienced the same issue while driving on the highway. I've only had the car a month, dropped by my dealership to show them before I turned the car off in case the behavior went away. They said that they just had another GT2 in with the same behavior and to call them tomorrow to schedule an appointment. They said that the other GT2 in there was likely going to have the head unit replaced and wouldn't be surprised if mine was as well.


If you're having the same issue as me, you can use the radio power button to turn off the radio as it starts to reboot and it'll stay up as long as you don't turn the radio on. BT and android auto music work for tunes if you want them.

Thanks for the information! My appointment is scheduled for Thursday to take mine in. I found out about that little trick last night through sheer luck and messing around to get it to stay on and that's exactly the method I used. I've just been using BT for my music selection. If i accidentally change it to radio, the restarting begins again

Are you in the Houston area? If so, do you listen to 94.5? I've been screwing around with it out of frustration and found that's the only station that causes the behavior. Someone else in the area had the same issue starting on Friday (today was the first day since Thursday that I've listened to the radio in the car). I'm trying to find more local owners to be guinea pigs. If you switch to radio, and keep repeatedly pressing the station change button on the head unit (not hold it down, hit it a bunch), does it eventually change the station and stop the reboot?

Hmm good question. I believe it might have been on 94.5 but not sure. I only listen to that or 97.5 ESPN. I can check tomorrow. I think its absolutely the radio that's causing the issue as whenever the mode is set to fm/am, the rebooting begins again.

If you can get the radio off on 94.5 and avoid it till the dealer sees you, you should be fine, has been verified by at least one other having the issue.

a single radio station causing a head unit malfunction is the single weirdest electrical issue I've ever heard of in a car. How in the hell is that even possible? Any electrical engineers here want to chime in?

My guess (just a guess) is that it's not hardware, but software. I bet the RDS (radio data system) is sending a character or characters that the head unit is not able to handle, causing a critical exception somewhere in the software, causing a reboot. If that's the case, a replaced head unit won't fix the problem, so I'd be interested to see if it works or not. This seems to have started on Friday in Houston, and impacts at least 5 people who listen to the same station. Hopefully, if it's software, Kia can get a fix out ASAP.

Interesting... Maybe something in the radio data stream (sent within the broadcast, including the song/show name, etc.) isn't being handled properly, and is crashing the system? I work with data systems, and have seen odd behaviors due to formatting/special characters before.

This is honestly a very fascinating and frustrating error. I came to the conclusion with you all as well that it must be an error within the transmission or in the software in the headunit that is causing it to just want to restart itself. If its software, they may be able to solve with a simple update they can push out through their website, right? Just have to upload to usb and update through that in the vehicle. im still planning to take it in on thursday so I will try to have a conversation with them regarding the issue with the intention of informing others the easiest way to fix this issue besides taking their car in (If at all possible).

I don't think so, Google's not showing any people complaining about it yet. My guess is that there's an issue with the Stinger head unit and whatever's being sent by that station.

Well, count me in as another Houstonian with the same issue and listening to the same radio station (94.5)

Issue started Monday for me as I switch my radio from BT to FM.

Now I was able to get it to stop rebooting itself by changing into BT or satellite radio, but as soon as I switch to FM, it goes hay wire. I will try a different frequency to determine if it in fact an issue with that station in particular.

106.9, 95.7, 88.7, and 96.5 HD 2 all work for me with no issues, those are the only other radio stations I listen to.
