Discussion of Stinger paint quality (Was - Paint Chip Issue)

Went to the dealership. They said the would fix both issues.
1. Headlight rub
2. Door paint bubbles.

They had no issue repairing both, but said I should do it sooner rather than later. Will wait to see for a month. I don't think it is bad enough for repair.

For me the most frustrating part of this is the inconsistency with which Kia is handling these issues. It literally can come down to a single human’s opinion and judgement.

it was a dirt spot, it came off Blue Coral cleaner.

question to the whole group. 2019 Kia Thunder Grey, bought in April, brand spanking new. I am noticing today after the second wash since I got it (one auto and one handwash) that the top of the bumper, is somehow discolored in some places. it is not even, it is dull in some area and some the paint looks just fine. I have not seen any paint peels or crack ( I hope I never will but seems like it super common ... only 8 votes reported issue with the Thunder Grey so I cant really find any info. I will try to post some pictures but you can only noticed outside and when you look at an angle so the pictures are hard to showcase the issue.
Car looked fine when I took it from the dealer, looks great once we debadge it a month later, it looks like it only happened recently - car stays outside so I wonder if the sun did anything to a poor applied paint ?
I haven't called Kia yet , wanted to see if anyone had experience some paint "discoloration" on their new car.

The first thing I would check is if the discoloration comes off with a polish.

No, paint issues are not common much less "super common". Barely 4% of forum members have bothered to notice this poll and vote in it. Does that look like a "super common" response? It means that 96% of our members came here and participate for other reasons than having paint quality issues.

Pictures 1-2-3 :I have those two Symmetric lack of paint where the top if the bumper meet the side fenders... no idea whats that about. No way a rock hit me on both side, same spots... I could touch it up, you are right but how / why it happened worries me.

*washed my car cause I could show you the discolouration and it was so much pollen on it, it was annoying *

Rest of the pictures show the spot disclorations, faded paint, sometimes rugged near the grill...

One touchless wash in May
Hand washed in June and that’s when we noticed it.
Wondering if the sun could have done that...

The dimpling in the second picture set of pictures doesn't look natural.

Those pics where you show something akin to melted plastic indicate a major issue that the dealer/Kia should have to fix. I just partially spray painted a subaru bumper after a tree encounter and it looks better than that.

The tips where the fender meet the front appears to me to be burn down from a bad orbital polish likely at the dealer.

The rest could be oil from sealant or some contamination.

I’d have someone with experience really take some moderate cut/polish to those and see if it resolves the issue. But first show dealer to document it.

I think the main defects will come out.

The burn parts won’t. You’ll have to decide if you trust the dealer’s shop to respray sections just to fix those small defects.

Either way, make them document it.

You could justify complete respray.

On your 5th picture down. There's a orange peel/ mottled look on the paint... is the surface still smooth to the touch?

If only 4% have bothered to notice the poll, that implies that they don't have a problem with paint; otherwise they'd be looking for answers, find the poll immediately, and then NOT vote in it? Highly unlikely. I am part of the "No with protection" vote. Did I look for the poll? No. I happened upon it looking over new posts. It costs nothing to vote "no". Why do so few open the poll thread? Because they are not like me: they don't give a shit what happens to anybody else, as long as it isn't happening to them. They don't even notice the misfortunes of others.

it does feel a bit rugged, definitely not silky smooth, it has a tiny textured to it, like the paint or something on the paint burned or something
you cannot see the discoloration or weirdness from the paint unless you approach the car and look at some angles but I dont think it should be there in the first place. I am reluctant at trying to buff or polish or do anything now

I am a bit mad as I definitely didn't see this when I picked it up nor would I ever think there was damage, this is my first brand new ever car so I thought they would check into those small details... it will be hard to prove I didnt cause that 2 months later.

Has anyone noticed paint chipping off of the calipers? And no, not from a stone. My front right caliper has a hairline crack in the paint and I can peel it off from there if I wanted. Almost like there was air underneath the paint and it didn't dry/adhere to the metal caliper.

If you're not the same one who complained of paint chips all over their calipers, then you are number two pointing to poor paint on their Brembos.

I've been meaning to post up about it for a while now and ask if anyone else has had the same issue but never got around to it.

I've never seen this type of paint problem on any other Brembo calipers, factory installed or after the fact.

Unfortunately my paint is starting to have lots of chips also will post some pictures tomorrow. It started on the passenger door and now it is happening to the hood. The car doesn't even have 6k miles on it an is less than a year old. I have washed it three times by hand and it has been garaged, it is my primary car but I don't drive much. I am going to report the issue soon or I will trade it in for another car. It is too bad that the paint is so bad on this car, I will most likely never buy another KIA as this was too expensive of a lesson.
