Unfortunately my paint is starting to have lots of chips also will post some pictures tomorrow. It started on the passenger door and now it is happening to the hood. The car doesn't even have 6k miles on it an is less than a year old. I have washed it three times by hand and it has been garaged, it is my primary car but I don't drive much. I am going to report the issue soon or I will trade it in for another car. It is too bad that the paint is so bad on this car, I will most likely never buy another KIA as this was too expensive of a lesson.
what color do you have and what is the build date ?? sorry to hear , My paint is bullet proof , ??

Which color? Did you vote in the poll?

These paint failure stories suck. :( But the up side, for the population at large, is that few cars have these issues. So sorry that yours isn't one of them.

What colour is yours?

I am thinking of trading for a used Lexus GS 350 or if I can get a freakish deal an entry level Audi A4, never had issues with Toyota paint. My problem is I will lose a ton of money in the process which stinks, my plan was to keep this car for 10 years and I love it but the paint failing in the New England climate is a deal breaker. I will report it first and see how KIA reacts to it and then make a decision next month.

If you got it resprayed it would be cheaper and paint thicker

Yea not sure but I think I would want a buyout I don't think a respray would work for me.
Good luck, keep us updated on happenings please.

Black and it is a 2018 not sure the exact build month.
It’s on the sticker on the B pillar with the tire pressures. Good luck, IMHO I’d get VIP involved.

As of today, 344 votes in the poll: which is 4.2% of membership participating; with 2.7% afflicted with paint quality issues. The incidence continues to drop.

I'm happy with my blue now. Kia resprayed the hood and clearcoated the bumper and fenders. Since I drove 15k and not a single chip. There are a couple of minor imperfections in the clear coat in the right fender but they are acceptable. The left door has a chip but I'll touch that up with a pen.
Cudos to Battleground Kia in Greensboro. They took care of this while I was on vacation.

How bad was your hood to get Kia to respray? I just submitted videos of mine and wondering what to expect

I had about 15 chips at 5k on the hood. Anything that hit the hood left a chip and I was careful not to tailgate. None on the bumper as it's plastic and 'gives'. The pumper only had impact craters, if you will, but no paint chipped away. What happened on the hood was not acceptable for a car at any price level. It looked like the car had 200k of interstate miles on it. They made no fuss about fixing this but the regional service rep had to come by to approve the work and it took a while for that to get lined up.

Don't know where Franklin is, but here in St Pete, Crown Kia collision center did a really great job of repainting a bad paint patch on the rear hatch lip, of course, warranty, no charge. :) Did take a couple of days, but great job. Was a little skeptical at first, but when it fully dried, looks really great. See if dealership and Kia won't give you a full paint job. Mine was Micro Blue and the paint shop said it was a little harder to work wth.

My yellow is starting to chip on the hood again after my new paint job last fall.... even slight bubble around one of the chips... I sure hope they will take care of this or this baby going back once lease is up and then might look at an ats-v

it does feel a bit rugged, definitely not silky smooth, it has a tiny textured to it, like the paint or something on the paint burned or something
you cannot see the discoloration or weirdness from the paint unless you approach the car and look at some angles but I dont think it should be there in the first place. I am reluctant at trying to buff or polish or do anything now
first two pictures, the car had a quote of pollen on it .. it is not the paint haha just making sure everyone doesnt think its SO messed up (or more than it is already)...

I am a bit mad as I definitely didn't see this when I picked it up nor would I ever think there was damage, this is my first brand new ever car so I thought they would check into those small details... it will be hard to prove I didnt cause that 2 months later.
Had the same on my rear hatch lip, Kia dealership repainted it and it came out so you can't tell it from rest of car. I was a little out of sorts, but they fixed it. Didn't notice it, but my car detail guy did, then it was obvious.

To add a little quantitative analysis for my Stinger:

Background info: My vehicles have always been daily driven year round. I live somewhere that uses sand/gravel to reduce icing in winter. Recently they've started using road crush to fill road imperfections and they don't clean it up for 3 weeks sometimes. Basically, other than a gravel road, I'm in one of the worse areas for stone chips. I usually change from winter tires to summer tires late April and the roads are never "completely" clean of rocks and debris until June. The summer tires throw rocks like crazy, so this likely contributes to damage to the side of the car and wheel wells.

My prior cars have typically required "around 10" paint chip repairs per year with daily use.

Stinger chips found in 2019: After nearly 1 year of daily use, the Stinger has exhibited the following damage:
Hood: 1 large chip down to primer or metal, also a few scratches from debris not breaking the paint but rather scratching the clear

A Pillars: 1 pinhole sized chip

Driver side front door: 2 down to primer/metal chips on the leading edge at the very bottom of the door. Slight misalignment (sticks out) appears to be a major contributor

Driver side rear door: 2 smaller chips on the leading edge of the bottom of the door, same issue as the front, also 2 (maybe 3) chips on the middle section of the door.

Passenger rear wheel well: Down to bare metal chip, reasonably large.

In Total: About 9 or 10 chips in a year that I feel the need to fill. This is about my running average on prior cars, so I would rate my paint around "average" compared to past other vehicles.

*I have the standard hood/fender/mirror/front bumper stone guard installed, this has likely helped tremendously with the front end. I also have the mesh installed in the front vents.

*In note of the leading edge driver's side doors being chipped significantly at the bottom, I plan to add small strips of Xpel stone guard (already have in the garage) to keep this from continuing to happen.
