Jerky Cruise Control?

I stopped commuting about 4 months after starting this post. Now I rarely use cruise control so I didn't bring it up to the dealer when I went in for the recall.

I don't think Kia has a fix for it though. There are too many people that accept it because they don't realize it isn't normal cruise control behavior.

If it bothers you get it on record. Take a service tech on a test drive and make sure to go up several inclines. That's where I noticed it most.

If enough people complain they may be willing to take action.

I still have no complaints. The only thing I would add to my feedback (#141 & #156 above) is that I've had the collision avoidance kick in (heavy braking) a couple of times now and it's extremely annoying - I can judge when a turning vehicle will be out of my path. I could turn it off but perhaps I'm just starting to drive more like my dad. lol..

Yea me neither... nothing jerking in my car.:D I do not allow that!!!

I don't have any jerking, but it does feel a little "off" when going down a steep grade, almost more of a microstutter. Not sure I would even notice it if I hadn't run across this thread.

I did experience my first "oh sh*t" moment with collision avoidance today when it suddenly slammed on the brakes when there was nothing in my lane in front of me. I was going around an uphill curve (not even a real sharp one) and it apparently thought the garbage truck in the right lane was in my way. I probably would've been hit from behind if someone had been closely following me. Kinda worries me about using the smart cruise features at all if an error so simple can set it off (my commute involves mountains and curves).

I believe you can adjust the sensitivity of the collision avoidance system from memory.

You Can adjust how early it will warn you. but I don't think it will affect the System in gerneral. But it's worth a try I guess :)

Mine is set to medium, that works fine for me. It screams at me sometines but usually it doesn't do anything.

I think the jerking could be the cruise control engaging still cannot feel or allow any jerking...
mine is more of a constant "surging" like the car is applying throttle, letting off, applying throttle, over and over to maintain speed. It's really not that bad, I'm already used to it.

That's exactly what mine does. I went on a test drive with my service rep to demonstrate its behavior and of course he told me he couldn't feel it. I even went as far as recording data logs with the Torque app and emailing them to him showing that the throttle plate keeps opening and closing consistently over and over to maintain speed, as much as 7% in some cases. Crickets.

Try calling them to followup to the email. Harder to ignore you if you're on the phone with them.

I shouldn't have titled it "jerking". As others have said it's a constant surge, particularly annoying when going uphill. The Stinger's cruise control isn't as refined as any other car I've ever owned, even when compared to other Kias which it shares many components with.

My Genesis G70 is a month old, and I noticed the surging in my car too. It's exactly as others describe it here - it happens on flat road with no other cars around. I describe the feeling as micro-surges. No one else noticed it on the Genesis forum.

All I can say is, please keep bothering Kia/Genesis because this is really inexcusable.

I will cut them some slack though as they obviously haven't been developing their adaptive cruise control (ACC) as long as companies like Subaru (I *think* EyeSight has been around longer than anyone else - first introduced in Japan, then the U.S. in 2008) and Toyota (2015). Maybe the Germans have had adaptive cruise longer than the Japanese as I'm not at all familiar with their cars, but the Korean brands need to acknowledge the problem and do a better job integrating the system. (I'm assuming that they are using proven off-the-shelf ACC technology and can actually fix it.)

It isn't a acc problem. It happens on regular cruise.

I had an Optima a few years back with acc and the regular cruise and acc cruise worked fine. Kia knows how to do it, they just flubbed it up with the Stinger.

I plan to bring this up with the dealer when I take my car in for it's first service. Frankly, I don't expect much to happen because it's a very subtle surge that most people don't seem to even notice. Given that, I suspect that even if Hyundai is aware of the phenomena, they won't fix it unless a lot of people complain - they would be better off financially to just ignore it.

Anyone else notice the car jerking/lurching when cruise is enabled?

I first noticed it on my drive home from the dealership a couple of months ago but I shrugged it off. I don't use cruise a whole bunch so it wasn't a huge deal until yesterday when it drove me mad on a 350 mile trip I took.

It feels like the computer is having a hard time making fine adjustments to the throttle bottle.

I have the same thing I thought it was so the way it was I hare it I guess I’ll have to take it in

They will.

My yellow GT it was noticable, but not real bad. My GT2 I have now is not there. It works just fine on standard and smart cruise.

I will say that I can go a long time without noticing it these days. That might be because of shorter, local trips lately. But I've not noticed it for a while.

I only notice it on longer trips on the highway. But when I do notice it - it sucks.
