• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Northern Virginia Stingers

June 8th Katie's Cars and Coffee folks!

That the one in Great Falls? If it is, it's just a wee bit to much of a hike for me coming from down passed Warrenton. :(

Congrats!!!

Indeed, Katie's Cars and Coffee is the great falls thing.

It's early, and it's a trip for sure BUT there's a better collection of exotic, luxury, tuner, super/hyper, antique and one-off vehicles to make it well worth the drive and waking up early. Plus the coffee isn't too bad

Also (and this is how I play it) if you have a significant other or kids who like the outdoors, Great Falls National Park is literally a mile down the road and it's a great place for hikes/picnics/dog walks/photography/etc/etc

That's going to be a fun drive. DO NOT USE CRUISE CONTROL ON YOUR DRIVE HOME! What color did you get?

I chose black but that was because it was cloudy when I bought it. If I had known KIA murdered pixies and ground them up into their black paint, I may have chosen ceramic grey.

I'm not seeing any other black stingers in NOVA. I saw my first black stinger in two months yesterday in Woodbrige... but the driver did NOT care that I was in a matching stinger.

I sold my jeep for this beast, I'm accustomed to owners of the same model car being enthusiastic to see other owners on the road. I almost rolled my window down to tell them to go return their stinger so someone with some enthusiasm can own it! I had to remind myself that there is no 'stinger-wave' and that owner probably hasn't been following the stinger since concept release.

HAIL ALBERT BIERMANN!
Ceramic grey for me. Had the dealer install the stinger badge on the back.

Also, why no cruise control?

Engine break-in. People will argue until the cows come home over best engine break-in practices or if it's even necessary considering factory break-in protocol BUT the one thing all engine builders and car enthusiasts will agree on is do NOT use cruise control during your break-in period (500-1500 miles depending on your sources).

Break in = piston rings seating. Best thing for piston rings seating is variable load, not consistent. Cruise control is using the vehicles computer to keep the load VERY consistent to cruise at a set speed.

Don't do this on your way home. Speed up, slow down, etc. etc. So basically, be sure to have FUN on the way home (in sport mode, the other modes will keep RPM below 2k and you want to be bouncing around between 2k-5k RPM ideally for break-in IMO).

I used cruise control once in 1996 and didn't care for it. My feet get bored enough without a manual as it is.

Thanks for the suggestion - I will gladly leave this sexy beast in sport mode on the drive home

I've seen a black stinger on waxpool rd. I've seen a few blue ones and a red one occasionally

I'm one of a few owners of a black Stinger in NoVA. If you see one north or west of 28 and the toll road, there's a good chance it's me. My license plate is the military designation for the Stinger missile.

Hi guys, anybody have recommendations for a ceramic coat provider/ installer? Thanks.

Hi guys, anybody have recommendations for a ceramic coat provider/ installer? Thanks.
I used Detail Authority in Fairfax for ceramic and ppf on the front end. Very happy with their service.

If you are near Fredericksburg look into Details by Frank. He did my Stinger and did a great job.

Patriot Auto Detailing in Lorton ask for Greg. He did an excellent job with mine

Bert, these guys are close and high on my list after calling them, they have several brands available, can i ask what brand you picked and why?

Thanks to the rest of you guys for the quick responses, it was super helpful.

Greg is THE man. I shopped around for a week or two, emailing calling and texting a number of vendors. Greg was the only immediate response AND his response was a link to his twitter account with a video of a paint corrected and ceramic coated stinger. Ha! Sold.

He takes great care of his customers and provides white glove service in an impressively clean working environment.

I went with the two stage paint correction because my black stinger looked like it was parked on the deck of a barge, uncovered, for its trip here from Korea. Swirl marks dot com status. And now my stinger looks like is was painted yesterday.

I also went with the Quartz 2 year warranty package (second tier from the bottom of four available packages). He has two products. I forget the name of the product*** he recommended I go with but the reasoning for it was I could only devote being without my stinger for a few days and it ended up being a rainy week. The product I went with can be driven in the rain within a few hours (FOUR hours) of applying. So after sitting over night in his super clean shop, I was comfortable driving my stinger home in the rain.

***Edit; IGL Coatings Quartz Package

Also, it’s worth mentioning (1) if your military there’s military discounts. And (2) Greg and his team are well practiced in the stinger rebadge game so if anybody nearby has some reservations doing the re-badge themselves - Greg and Patriot Auto Detailing are an authority

I successfully picked up my car from a dealer in Charlotte. Flew down there with my Dad, signed the paperwork, and hit the road back to NOVA. It was a good excuse for a road trip!

A few hours in, we stopped at a winery that was recommended by our Uber driver. Everyone is so much nicer in the south. Anyway, when we pulled in the lot was mostly empty except for six new 2019 Vettes. We were walking in as the group of vette owners were walking out. They didn't know my car was the stinger parked next to them, and I saw them all crowd around it, admiring it for a few minutes asking "what's a stinger gt? This car is nice!" Made the purchase worth it right now, and I had a shit eating grin all the way home.

I took the stinger to a lake in MD the next day. Such a beautiful drive in such an incredible car. I'll certainly remember this trip forever!
