So, I finally drove a Stinger GT today. One thing that I decided to evaluate was the throttle response, given reviews I had seen and heard elsewhere citing turbo lag. I've got to say, the lag when flooring it from a dead stop was significant. Seems like it was about two full seconds, which makes me assume all these sub 5 second 0-60 times included brake torquing it. And "yes", I had it in the sportiest of sport modes.

It leaves me wondering, what sort of after market mods might improve this? Reviews of the G80 Sport and G90 with the same exact engine claim very little lag, which makes me think there might be some room for small improvements. What do you guys think?

I cannot imagine what would/could cause such an excessive amount of lag from such tiny little turbos. 2 seconds? That's an eternity. And the turbos in the 3.3T for Genesis cars have no problem? Something is amiss...

I'd tend to agree with you. All I can say is the whole reason I wanted to scrutinize it was because of other reviews I had seen commenting about it. I seem to recall one where the reviewer seemed to feel like it was less a mechanical limitation and almost more of the car just deliberately waiting to acknowledge the throttle input. This is more or less how it felt to me. It wasn't a slow roll and then turbo thrust, just moments of nothing after mashing the throttle and then I was off like the wind. Even the throttle response and upshifting when mashing it on the highway seemed a bit sluggish.

I have no doubt the 4.7sec times are with launch control and not just from a idling engine in sport mode. If anything, the K&N CAI would help with airflow.

I haven't driven any new cars lately with drive by wire that didn't have some sort of delay on takeoff. My 3.3 doesn't really feel any different to all the other cars and with the auto hold function on there is even a bit more delay while the ecu figures out what to do. My Hyundai work truck is the same if you mash the throttle in that it takes a while to figure things out BUT if you ease the throttle to get it moving and then mash it it appears to be happy

To be honest, I have noticed very little turbo lag. Sure, there may be a tiny bit but unless you have an electric motor to pre-spin the turbos, you're going to get some. On that note, why even bother with turbos? Why not put superchargers that are driven off a belt from the motor? :) Yeah, yeah. More fuel efficient. Pffft!

I came from driving a 2016 sti. Let's talk about turbo lag with that car. Drive one of those then drive the stinger again. These stingers have very little turbo lag compared to other cars.

I dont feel any turbo lag at all ...............it was one of my concerns prior to purchase , power is virtually instant in my car with AWD

Same as when I test drove the 3.3, instant power/torque even at the low end. The 2.0L has noticeable lag but nothing I couldn’t live with, still pulled nice and smooth.

My impression from test driving was how little turbo lag there was when driving in gear, power response was almost instantaneous at all speeds. Felt like a high torque engine.
For traffic light drag racing, did not notice any particular reticence in pulling away but I have to admit it was in town so was not trying to replicate 0 - 60 times.
My first generation Impreza Turbo had real lag, even when rolling, if you were in the wrong gear and mashed the throttle you could hear the tumbleweed rolling by ...

That doesn't sound at all like turbo lag to me. Sounds like the throttle input was delayed, or some nanny system initially triggered.

Scenario: following someone who's going well under the speed limit and I get frustrated enough with no other traffic in the neighboring lane. In this situation I'll check all blind spots, put on my signal, poke the throttle a bit and begin steering input. The car starts changing lanes and then I get hit in the back when the boost hits. Yes, I notice the "lag". That said, I'm usually in Comfort mode. But it makes it uncomfortable for my passengers.

Now, is it turbo lag or has it something more to do with how throttle tip-in is currently programmed? Dunno.

But I know that virtually every tuner tweaks throttle tip-in for marketing and fun reasons. When you install their tune and the car is perkier, quicker to respond, it's a placebo effect, even if the car's not quantifiably faster.

As with most everything with this car and me right now, I'm waiting to exit the mini-ice-age before I can start wringing this thing out properly.

I’m not noticing any lag either other than the annoying engine shut off when stopped but that is something entirely different

The power seems pretty smooth on my limited

I have a 2017 Civic Hatchback with 1.5L Turbo. It is my first non-NA vehicle. It took me a while to get use to the turbo/CVT lag. With my recent GT2 test drive, I would say that Stinger has minimal lag comparing to my Civic Hatchback.

You can shut down the auto start stop feature

You miss the STi yet? I'm in a 2015 and looking seriously at the base GT w/summers. Took me for EVER to figure out the STi. Now I drive it like a Ducati. Rev the shit out of it. Always. I spend WAY too much time in stop and go traffic to keep it, so that is my main driver for leaving the STi. The one thing I was not impressed with on the Stinger is the rear seat room, or lack there of, for such a large vehicle.

To me the stinger has equal or more leg room but definitely less head room. I didn't drive the STI as much as I liked. I had it Cobb tuned Cai and some other custom stuff. I loved the car but it was just not practical. It felt like it was my dog that needed space to run but I couldn't give it the time to. I love the stinger GT and am extremely happy with no regrets

As for head room:
I got the GT with NO sun roof. Adds about 1.5" headroom.
