Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

With one exception: when the weather is so nice I want it INSIDE; then and only then the "Auto" goes off. Of course the sunroof is open, and even side windows will be lowered to the desirable position, usually less than halfway.
Sunroof ? I thought you opted out of the sunroof ??

I drive with climate off and windows cracked or open all the time.

I will also often set it manually so only fresh outside air is being piped in thru the main vents (lowest temp setting, AC off, low fan speed)

Exactly!

With all that air flowing through the car, why would it matter if the system occasionally adds a little outside air?

I guess I don't understand the issue. ?

Pulled up to a high curb while parking, no issues, but when backing out a while later, the front parking sensors where screaming at me. So I've had the front warnings go off randomly when sitting stationary at a fair distance behind cars in traffic, but it's becoming pretty obvious they are useless when parking and in drive.

It becomes superfluous, and therefore wasting resources and hardware. I only run what is needed. I'm a grandchild of the Depression (explanation: our parents were children of the Depression, and raised us with their inculcated values).

They keep "screaming" at you after you've backed away from the objects in front? Mine start out "screaming" as I put it in reverse, because I pulled up to within "Red" when I parked; so of course that is what the sensors see when I start up again. And, how do the sensors become "useless" in Drive? I don't understand what you are describing. We're in Drive when we park and the sensors start "screaming"; they're doing their job.o_O

:D Heated mirrors? :D:rolleyes:

Mine do not alert when parking in the forward direction. I can pull up close to an obstruction, no warnings, but when I put it into reverse, then they start beeping.

... but they will occasionally beep at me when sitting behind a car at a traffic light, for example - although that warning comes up on the dash.

I too experience beeps when sitting behind a car/truck at a stop light. Not sure why and its not happening all the time either. Surely standing still at a stop light can not be hazardous!

Thought I read on here that sometimes the sensors can pick up the light changes from exhaust gas or condensation from other cars and that will throw a random warning while waiting at lights. I've only had that happen maybe once or twice in 6 months. Otherwise I think the sensors have been pretty flawless and work well in both forward or reverse for me

Well color me stupid.

The parking sensor button is ONLY for activating the sensors when in Drive/forwards motion. The LED has to be illuminated for the sensors to work.

Whether the car is in Drive or reverse, the sensors (on the front and rear) ALWAYS alert no matter whether that switch is on or not.

In my defense, the button in the same location in my Sorento is illuminated when the sensors are disabled, not enabled.

Lol. It's not exactly intuitive whether it's in or off. Especially when the isg is the opposite. When I went to purchase the car I went for a second test drive before actually buying. I Was apparently messing around with those buttons and had turned the sensors off.

I "knew" from my first test drive they would go off as I was parking this larger and unfamiliar car. So i just kept inching forward when I got back to the dealer. Finally decided this isnt right...parked it and got out. I was millimetres away from shredding the front bumper on the curb. When Ifinally figured out the button and realized what had happened a day or two later I was never going to make that mistake again!

Edit added a pic I took of the car. Was just a quick shot to show a friend but you can see how close the front is.

Yeah, so weird that in the Sorento it's the reverse of the Stinger's button.

What's even more weird is that the button has no effect over the sensors when in reverse - both front and rear are active.

On my Sorento, I depend on disabling them (only has rear) when I have one of my trailers attached.

I was going to ask if your parking sensors were ON (lit up). :D Right next to it is the exact opposite; the ISG is off when the light is lit. Of course, once you understand it's obvious: the ISG button is an "off" button, it says so; so lit means "off"; and the parking sensors is an on button (even though it doesn't say so), so lit means "on".

I need to qualify the last quoted sentence. With the sensors off, you can pull up to (back up to) a wall and nothing happens until you put it in park first, then shift back to either "R" or "D": then the sensors are turned on. But the next time you start the car, the parking sensors will still be off if you didn't turn them on first. Once turned on, the startup defaults to "on"; and once turned off the startup defaults to "off". I think this is stupid. I think the parking sensors should default to "on"; and only the driver turning them off manually should turn them off: the parking sensors button should be an "off" button just like ISG.

All my sensors - on the front and rear - work and trigger alerts (on the screen) when I'm in reverse, no matter the "position" of the button.

If you stopped and shifted back into "D", they'd still be working. The annoying "secret" is shifting to "P" and then back to "D" or "R" before shutting down.

You will of course remember to occasionally use your A/C, on any car, at least for a minute or two. Even in winter.
That will stop the gas seals drying out.
You should never have to re-charge the gas in your A/C.

I don't believe that running the AC occasionally year-round is going to prevent the need to replenish the Freon at some point. When the car is ten or more years old it will start to leak regardless. (But since most of us will have disposed of our current Stinger ride, it is not an issue.:P)
