Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

Excellent response: the single most educational bit of text I've enjoyed all day! :D I didn't know what else to call the outer plastic panels in the back. They are clearly not "body panels" in the steel sense; the steel lies beneath. I won't misuse "facia" again. Thank you. :)
You are welcome. I have learned much from your posts.

Here's an idea: If I am driving away from the protection of my carport, I will roll up some bath towels and cram them into the wiper well when I park (assuming inclement, snowy or freezing rain weather). Remove the rolled towels, voila! no ice jam; wipers underneath will be completely ice-free.
I remembered this time....'course the wife wanted to know what the ''good'' towel was doing on my car?!

I think putting them in "park" and lifting off the windshield is a little easier than that..

the towel goes into the bottom ''well'' at the bottom of the windscreen with the wipers parked and up....again the winter storms here are no joke.

I know, I get it. But there's so little room to lift them without impacting the hood, by the time you fiddle with all that, it seems like parking after shutting down the vehicle, and lifting from the shield, would be easier.

It’s finally been weeks since I found a pice of tape. Finally. Still, one day I’m sure I’ll find another.
These indicate how thorough your PDI has been.. or not. On delivery, I was asked to sign the PDI sheet. A very long list of supposedly checked items. Not only did I find clear tapes, which is fine, I decided to check the tyre / tire pressures. Over the months of waiting for deliver I had mentioned to the dealership owner that the PDI process of my i30N Performance Blue, had been well below expectations. Too many to list but I wondered how all tyre pressures could be nearly double the normal ! He said,"factory sets to 50psi so tyres keep their shape", and added "they'll be reset in the PDI process".
Not so. My Stinger ran about 100 miles on 50psi tyres before I found out.

Another point is that the GTS, top spec here in the UK, doesn't get a spare tyre.
I made it a condition of purchase, and got one after delivery, complete with bracket etc.
Interesting also that KIA don't make a GTS. The 'S' logo is a brainchild of KIA UK, ...to inflate the price a little.
My 'S' was missing too and had to be ordered. Comes in satin chrome. I painted it red, used ladies nail varnish and some clear lacquer top coat.

No, no, no. Just roll the towel(s) and lay them in the well on top of the wipers. Don't touch the wipers at all, just cover them up. It won't matter how much snow or freezing rain you get before you come back out to the car. Clean off the car, then lift (peel away) the towels and your wiper well is ice/snow free; the blades are clean. Drop the wet/frozen towels into a plastic bin in the hatch.

The only possible issue with this is high winds; the towels could get blown out and away during a blizzard: in which threatening case I will be wrapping the wipers, i.e. securing the towels under the wipers (hopefully without permanently deforming the edges of the wiper blades; we are now talking worst case scenarios).

anytime thre is an ice storm it's a ''worse case scenario'' lol......with the wipers parked and lifted I was able to properly lay one towel rolled up over the arms (that are fixed) and avoid any ice to accumilate into that area.........I seen it before, broken wipers, burnt out motors and busted armatures........never again I vowed!!!

The thought of my wiper arms in the air gives me the creeps.

well we ended up with a solid 1/4 inch of ice on top of the 4 inches of snow...thankfully I got rid of the snow before the ice came into the picture........made life alot easier...scuff marks from the plastic ice scraper buffed right out , thank the christ!!

So how does this S model differ from top of line GT's available elsewhere?

Was backing into a parking spot yesterday when a bloke on a mobility scooter went past on a path behind where I was parking. This triggered the rear cross traffic alert which went off a nanosecond before I turned the ignition off. The alert kept going after the ignition was off so I opened my door thinking this would stop it. Nope, still kept beeping. I had to turn the car back on before the alert would stop. This particular scenario obviously doesn’t occur often so I don’t know if this happens all the time but it woul be interesting if other members could report when/if it happens to them.

Only had it go off when reversing.

Hi. It depends where those markets are. Here the GTS comes fully loaded. It costs less if you discuss the standard yellow paint. That colour cost KIA a pretty penny in warranty claims. UK doesn't get the AWD. 2WD is better here any way. If
I'd be interested to know what extras, if any, is available in your country.

Sounds silly but discovered that once you have the car in manual you can put it back to auto (D mode) if you push the gear shift down.

Must be a GT2 thing. Because the GT1 is a left position for manual gate, and a return to automatic when you push the lever back straight up.

My discovery today returns to the sound system. I have played a particular CD many, many times on the Stinger's USB sourced music feature. The titles of each track appear at the top of the screen for c. five seconds. Finally, after nearly eleven months, it sunk in: the track names/titles were wrong. I went to my computer Music and looked; sure enough, the original rip had the "Names" wrong; and the corresponding "Titles" were alike wrong. WTH!? I went and grabbed the CD and looked at the track list: it differed markedly from the "Names" on the ripped tracks; and ergo the USB copy I use in the car. So, being quite OC about things like this if I can change them, I laboriously renamed each of the 18 tracks to match the CD track titles/names. By doing so, I only changed the "Names", not the corresponding "Titles", which remain wrong (why, will forever remain a mystery; this is the only time in the history of CDs that I have seen this particular fubar). I took the USB with the new names to my car and used "List" to select the first track and away we go. A bit later I pushed the righthand media knob and watched the currently playing track title/name appear at the top of the screen: it was WRONG!? STILL!? The car's computerized media sorting was taking over all my hard work and ruining it. I pushed the "Media" button and sure enough, the wrong track title/name was showing; I pushed "List" and the showing track playing was my edited renaming. All the tracks above and below in the "List" are my renamed tracks. Cool, I guess. At least if I want to show the correct names of the tracks, I just have to bring up "List" and there they are: the rest of the naming protocol remains the domain of the media machine.

It's probably because the media system uses the ID tags to sort the songs and not the song name. You may have changed the names but the ID tags remained the same. I had to remove all the ID tags on the songs I used on my USB stick to get them to play the way I wanted. Luckily I found an app that would batch remove the tags.

Just curious about how to see what gear the car is on when it’s in fully automatic drive mode. Right now it just shows “D”. My previous DSG used to show the gear it’s on.

You are right, since "Name" and "Title" are the same; but when I change "Name", the indicated title of each track as it starts up has nothing to do with the renaming I did. ID tags are no doubt synonymous with Title.

I don't want to know how to change that. (crosses fingers, backs away) I would like an easy way to rip CDs as a single file, though.
