Australia-Specific Kia Stinger Discussion

Can you tell me what dealership did it and what product they used for the exterior?
So you paid 2k for inside and out?
My leasing company do a product called hydro active. I'll post the brochure and hopefully someone is familiar!
My dealer was Great Western Kia @ Kingswood the product they used was Protektiv, there is a website for this product.

Do you think I should get ceramic coated? What cost are we looking at for that and when should I get it done?
It seems to vary depending how much you require.Where I live a car detailer does it, it starts at least $1200 up to $3300

90% of people I talk to tell me it's a massive scam and the paint protection stock is amazing.

So conflicted. :(

I know how you feel, I didn't even know what ceramic coating was until I came on the forum:laugh: but was told it's good to have some sort of protection. My number one bug bear is when you have just washed your car and a bird craps on it !

Recommended for appearance, ease of keeping clean, and protection from contaminants. In my case I preferred a DIY and the cost was less than $100. All you need is a well prepared surface and lots of patience. It's just like washing/waxing the car a few times (depending on how many coats you want to apply) and the results are amazing. The real cost in getting it done professionally is in labour as the product is relatively cheap (but effective). I wouldn't say my work is up to professional standard but for a first time attempt IMO it was damn good. Check out my post in "what did you do to your stinger today". My car is currently featured in February Stinger calendar.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
That's so cool! I have been told to do that...if I go with my leasing company it's tax free protection hahaha

But you'll get more satisfaction from DIY, lol.

It used to be a wank & I thought so too, until I had it done to my first car in 05 an SSZ & in 09 my wife’s Kia Koup, never polished either of them & both looked amazing at trade in time even the dealers were impressed with the finish & this makes it easier for them to sell used as they look amazing for their age & also helped me get top trade in $$$ on them, I am now sold on this.

This was the push I needed....thanks haha

Hey @Hemz which dealers in Newcastle are you talking to? I bought mine at Cardiff Kia. I originally had a pretty good quote from Cessnock Kia but they didn’t want to negotiate on accessories. I ended up getting Cardiff to agree to the lower price plus throw in the extras I wanted that Cessnock wouldn’t give me. Also had window tint and paint & leather protection done by them. They used a product called Protektiv which @Stinger GT SS has already posted about. Their customer care manager told me recently they’ve gone to a product called Hydro but are having some issues with it she didn’t say what though. I think they just apply differently. From what I’ve seen on the Kia websites Cessnock still had some good prices but you may need to negotiate harder for the extras, or use their price like I did to low ball the others. Also have a look at Brian Hilton at Wyong or Gosford. Car sales have been low the last few months so they’ll all be keen to get your $$. Have you considered buying an paying or off rather than leasing? Good luck whatever you decide on.

Hey mate,
The lowest one on carsales was 58k from QLD.
I've pretty much used that as a base for all quotes and now I'm currently waiting on Blacktown and Maitland and great western Kia to get back to me with their final quotes.

How much would you think is a steal?

I'll have to ask the dealership what they would use otherwise leasing will definitely look after me as it's a defence partnership.

I would buy outright but the pre-tax leasing benefits are just too amazing to drop me a tax bracket. For all car related costs it will cost me $550 a fortnight for 5 years with a residual of $17k at the end to which I will pay out.
(Included in the $550 is 20,000kms worth of fuel, rego, CTP, insurance, dash cams front and rear, tint, servicing, tyres, paint protection and interior protection)
So total cost to own the stinger after 5 years and have all that included is $88,500.

What do you think?

I don't think Blacktown will come to the party as I found them very reluctant to move on anything and they kept pushing "excellent service" as a means to sell inflated prices. Having said that, I did have successful negotiations and paid what was a reasonable price at the time (may last year).
As for leasing, when I saw your original post I figured around $88k to own the car and I couldn't really justify that. But when you mention tax breaks to a lower bracket it's sounding much sweater and will all the mentioned goodies it's a no brainer so go for it.

Anything less than $60k with all the extras thrown in is a steal. I paid just over $60k for my GT with GT floor mats, dash mat, window tint, paint and leather protection, & $1000 trade for a 15 year old VY S Commodore with about 270,000km on the clock.

Ultimately mate do what’s best for you financially, hard to say what’s best because everyone’s circumstances are different. If you get a good deal through defence then go for it if it works for you.

I’m going to take a stab and guess RAAF Williamtown. Need to see if you can get it in a speed trial against a Super Hornet or JSF on take off lol.

I went to Maitland but got a strong bullshit vibe from them and walked. Try Newcastle City Kia and Cardiff if you haven’t already. Cardiff were definitely happy to deal when I bought mine. They started out not wanting to budge much but once they saw I was serious they started throwing stuff at me. If you’ve got time to drive around to a few and haggle it could be worth it. Just stick to your guns as much as you can and don’t let them screw you. All dealers are the same. Play them off against the Queensland one, see if they can match or better it and run the line that you’d rather buy local than have it trucked in from QLD.

Actually now when I think about it I think Blacktown bailed at best offer was 60k without exhaust....have a written quote from Maitland for $58,800 for the my19 but am waiting for them to respond to my next one which will probably be who I sign with tbh.

What's a normal yearly expense on a car?
$3k fuel
$1k rego +CTP
$1k insurance
$1k servicings and tyres

There is already $30k in the 5 years plus haven't taken into account the other 3k of extras included. :)

A 64k loan over 5 years would be a total payment of $75k at the end at 6% interest. So leasing feels like a no brainer given the numbers crunched. (Unless I truly stuffed it up somewhere...haha)

I've done a lot of research but would love to know if I've missed anything.

Yeah RAAF haha how'd you guess ... Hahahha

I will call the other 2 Newcastle ones tomorrow.

Did you get exhaust included too? I'm stoked that I've got quotes with exhaust and all extras plus installing my OEM shit for 61k! Maitland sounds like they really want to beat that too.

Mate I’m born and bread Novacastrian it was either Williamtown or a grunt from Singleton lol.

I didn’t get the bi-modal. I wasn’t keen on the extra $2,600 to get it at the time and I needed the car delivered before they could fit it as my Commodore’s rego expired the day o picked up my Stinger. I ended up buying the badges from this forum and fitted them myself in December. I may still get the bi-modal later.

If you can get it all for the prices they’re quoting then go for it, sounds like a good deal.

If you go to the other Newcastle ones make sure they know Maitland is offering you $58,800 and get them to price match or better it. If they’re not prepared to do it then walk. They’ll either chase you to keep the sale or let you go. Take the quote with you so they can see it’s not bs. I took screen shots of their websites and played them off against each other.

Yeah that's a great idea.
What's your insurance like?
I am looking at something like this and it included windscreen/sunroof/window cover including tint and no excess to get them replaced.

Can’t remember off the top of my head but in the ballpark and also with NRMA with the window replacement you mentioned
