Kia Stinger Navigation Map Update

I'd like to add that I called the Premium Team number today and they told me to go buy the update. Would not send me a card for a car bought a month ago. :mad:

Keep calling back and pressing the issue and try to talk to someone different each time. They should eventually cave.

That is rediculous unless you bought a used car.

I called and they send me it free.

Call again and have them explain why you are not being offered the same update everyone else is getting (and should have been done by the dealer before taking delivery).

you get one free update, the person I talked to at the Premium Team told me this immediately. If you already used it, that's why they want you to pay for it. If not, the person you spoke to is misinformed.
 
How you approach the call matters too. If you call and just demand or feel entitled they are not inclined to help you, and honestly they owe you nothing. Instead, explain how you just bought the car and it came with the old version, and that you heard Kia is doing a one-time upgrade as a courtesy. Be nice and be ready with a screenshot of your system info so you can give them the current version and ESN.

But everyone should be entitled to have the latest available version for their car when they pick it up from the dealer. You are making it sound like KIA is doing customers a favour by offering a one-time free update. Not at all in my opinion. They are making people call, beg, plead and suffer inconvenience of self-installing something that the dealer should have already done as part of the expensive PDI process.

If they offered a free update AFTER you had the proper one, then gratitude would be in order.

That's the roadside request number and I never got an option to put in an extension. Do I need to talk to an agent first to tell them I'm looking for Ed?

Oh I was super cordial. I'm well aware you get more service with niceties than complaining. The guy nicely told me there was nothing he could do. I'm trying again today.

You've verified that you have the older version of the software (<12.5), and he understood that the software was not current as of your purchase date for the car? What reason did he give for refusing to allow the update?
 
Anyone that got a map update interested in selling or sending their old map SD card? My kids must have removed the SD card and now it's nowhere to be found. Can it be moved from one Stinger to another?

Don't think so - if it's anything like other models, it is encoded to your VIN.
 
So I updated the software (sent to me for free, thanks KIA), noticed one tiny change that bugs me... when playing an iPOD through the systems native music app (NOT CarPlay), I used to get the album track number together with the total songs on an album... like 1/10, then 2/10 and so on... now I just get a music symbol/10 for every song on the album, not the track number. Am I overlooking a setting or is this a "symptom" of the software? I do like the native interface much better than Apple CarPlay as it shows album cover and more...

What is the current version that is available and how do I check what version I have installed currently? I bought mine in October and think that I just have the original version SD card. Want to check and see if I am missing the latest version before I call.

UVO -> setup -> I cant frigggin remember. It’s in this thread. Why haven’t you played around to explore the UVO settings....

UVO doesn’t play music (UVO is pretty much useless in the USA). KIA really should provide head functionality updates separate from map updates.

UVO is the KIA name for the infotainment system. It plays music. UVO is also the name of the telematics app that does all the fancy stuff like remote start, locking/unlocking, etc.
 
I just got off the phone with an extremely helpful woman at the Kia Premium Team at 855-542-7733. My GT2 was built 12/17 and I bought it at the end of May 2018 with old versions of the SW (see attached pic). Since mine was built Kia has released a couple of updates. She informed me that Kia is offering a free one time, lifetime system/map update. The current version is 12.5 but a new version is due to be released in late Jan. or Feb. and suggested I wait for the new release then contact her again for the free update. Now I'm waiting for the new update. Oh, and does anyone know what the red snowflake in the upper right of the display is for? It doesn't seem to be associated with the system info screen or the temp dropping to or below 39degF. Stinger System Info 01-14-2019.webp
