2018 Stinger Recall - Wire Harness May Be Damaged By Fender

they wont go into the ecu area right? and notice that i made a hole on the grommet to pass the jb4 wires for the obd?

FYI... Had mine completed yesterday. My entire front harness was rerouted a way from some moving parts apparently for safety reasons. I'll post a photo of the actual work performed when I go back outside.

I just ordered my own rubber gromit for $6 shipped. Thats the price of gas to the dealer.
Where did you order the grommet from? The part number used on the tsb doesn't show up in a parts number search on the official kia parts site.

Picked up the notice from KIA Canada in my mail today. States that it applies to cars manufactured from Sept. 21, 2017 through April 5, 2018, and not to contact the KIA dealer until after January 15 due to parts availability.

Well, that changes things a bit for me. I will ask if they have the grommets and wire harnesses to replace any damaged ones. If they don't have the parts on site, I will wait until they do. I'm not having them take parts off just to look; and then have them "ground" me if they decide my car is unsafe. I think that there is very little risk involved here, waiting a couple of weeks or more for Kia to send the replacement stuff. Still getting the oil change, of course. :D

Keep in mind this is a KIA Canada recall notice, so I can't say that the same information necessarily applies to the U.S. for either manufacturing dates or parts availability. I haven't seen the U.S. notice.

Can't hurt to ask them though, especially if you have your car there anyway.

Someone on Facebook had this service bulletin done and started noticing acceleration issues after...have you seen what he describes below?
"Ok, so would like your guys and gals feedback. I got the 6K miles service last week along with the wiring harness recall. So after spending a few days visiting my sister, on my drive back home I noticed that when I accelerated to pass a car or just to increase speed rapidly, it felt like it was misfiring or like a slight vibration on the steering wheel/accelerator pedal. It's quite noticeably that my wife noticed it from the passenger side. At first I thought it might be the traction control, so I turned it off, but it continued to do it. Then I came to a complete stop and accelerated hard and did it as well. I love this car and plan on keeping it long term. Needless to say, it's already at the dealer and will be check first thing tomorrow morning. Any ideas?"

Nothing like this... it was sub 30 degrees this morning and it was running a bit rough, but all weekend was fine. I'm betting that guy had some sensor loose after the service.

I'm going to rip into it this afternoon just to do it.

^^^ I have a suspicion that working over the Stinger can produce problems where none existed before. It is possibly my biggest worry. So far, in over nine months, I have had nothing done to my car except regular maintenance checks and oil changes; oh, and A/S tires put on.

To inspect the wiring harness and install the grommet they have to pull out the ECU. Car could run a little different while the ECU re-learns but really shouldn't be noticeable.

I keep forgetting that any ECU disruption causes a "relearning" process. I'll take that into account the first time that I have my car "worked over", and notice any differences: I shall be patient while my car's central nervous system relearns how to drive again. :P

Had mine done the day after Christmas. Was in there to drop off the car and get the head unit replaced for the BT issue and the notice came through when they refreshed their notifications that morning. Overnighted the part and I swung by the next day to have the grommet put on. Took about 30-40 min and I waited on it. Didn't notice much difference driving except the normal "learning" feel from the tranny and go-pedal. After a couple days she was back to normal.

What is the BT issue? Same issue as the speakers moving towards the back?

It was for me, everytime I got a bluetooth call in, the fader would go to the back speakers, so it was easy to show the service guy exactly what it was doing.

Just had the recall done Friday. That was the third time it's been in the shop in 10 months the the 2 others were for oil changes. no other issues but i do have one now. On the last oil change they put what i'll call a dent on the bottom of the passenger side skirt. with the lift. idiots, but to their credit they owned up to it when i brought it in for the recall and said they would fix it when they have a loaner for me w'e'll see.

Get it in writing.

Yep, they were trying to do it when the car was getting repainted, but they had the car in repaint for so long that they had to send the head unit back, lol. Since I had some time off at the holidays, I went back then to get the head unit and wiring harness fix done.

BT issue fixed by the head unit replacement, and I also got the 12.5 software update for free from Kia after the repaint was done.

I did my own recall repair today since my Stinger is highly modified, and the dealer would surely try to void the warranty. The rubber grommet cost $3.08 at the dealership, told them I was doing the repair myself and they documented the recall on my VIN.

Really simple to install the grommet, didn't take more than 15 minutes. Would recommend the DIY route to anyone not wanting to spend a few hours at the dealership or worry about warranty being voided due to modifications.

I'll drop it off, have them do it, and drive the loaner while it's in the shop.
