I’m just wondering how jb4 and Canadian gas play together for you. I have jb4 with fuel wires. The first time I filled up with chevron 94 and was getting pinging even on map 1. I then switched to shell 91 and could get just a hint of ping on map 1 as well. I’m finding the only way I can use jb4 with pump gas is to use a custom map that’s just 1 psi over stock. With E85 mix I have no problem running up to map 5. I’m thinking of trying to run another tank of chevron 94 maybe I just got a bad tank. I have stock plugs gapped to 24 jun mid pipes and catback with k&n filters. Any info from some more Canadians would be great.

I doubt you are hearing ping, the ECU would pull timing first, and that should be clearly evident in JB4 logs looking at the timing trace.

I had it on the dyno last week and they heard pinging as well and had to stop a run mid way.

Check the JB4 log recorded on the dyno and see if it reflects that. Based on previous experience the Canadian 94 octane is more like 90 octane.

You're telling us that US 91oct with JB4 & fuel wire on map 1-2 doesn't ping at all, but with CAN 91oct it would ping regularly? What is wrong with our gas quality?!? I'm looking for that combo on my Stinger, next spring...I live in Canada...What should I do?

I'm saying 2 things:

1) If you need tuning help or have ping, record a JB4 log of it, so we can confirm there is an octane issue in the first place.
2) Canadian 94 octane fuel in my experience performs like 89-90 octane. So you are better off using your 91 octane Canadian fuel.

Would you consider it a must to get the wireless mobile connect kit along with the jb4 or a BMS data cable is enough? Or none at all?

Get the wireless mobile connect it’s awesome.

What are the goals? How fast do you want to go? :)

Honestly, I'm not looking for anything more than map2. JB4 with fuel wires (map 1 or 2, depending on your advice) + Eibach pro-kit + K&N filters. That's all I need/want.

......MAAAAYYYBE a Thermal R&D catback...MAYBE....;)

A better way of putting it, do you plan to hit the track or dyno? If so, then you'll want the fuel wires and either the data cable or jb4 mobile kit. If money is an issue the data cable is cheaper and does all the same stuff. Just to a laptop. So not always as convenient.

I think the app is one of the best things about it. The app connects so fast and I can make changes in two seconds.

No track or dyno. 90km per day for work (mostly back country roads) with spirited driving from time to time. I just don't want to spend extra for something I don't need. With all that said, what's your final advice?

Do you really want to have to connect a computer each time you change the map?

Yeah...That's a very good point. Same goes for logging runs, I guess?? Must be pretty annoying :s

A lot of customers will never change the map from default map1. So it just depends on what you want to do with the car. Nice thing is, those extra items are modular and can be added later without penalty. :)

I'm certain octane rating is regulated in both the USA and CAN, so unless the type of octane test is vastly different for 94 fuel, I don't know how a 94 octane fuel performs like 89-90 and a 91 like 91.

Can you elaborate on your experience? Where did you source your 94 Canadian fuel? I know many stations use ethanol to achieve the 94 rating.

Based on years of experience working with Canadian customers. Use whatever fuel best meets your needs. If you are wondering my opinion on the 94 then you know it. :)

I've used Sunoco/petro can 94 (e20) in the stinger exclusively and never had anything close to timing reduction. I've run map 5 in the summer no problem, and recently set the Canadian record of 4.04 0-60 and 12.13 1/4 mile on map 2 after recent mods of primary dp and Fmic. Never once have I seen the car pull timing or ping. Are you sure you know what you are hearing?
