All Season tires

Looking to hear your review on the Nitto’s, that’s the one I’m leaning towards as Nokian don’t have a full set for my staggered setup. On the noise front, Summers are typically noisier than AS tires. The quietest of the bunch will typically be Grand Touring tires, which typically have better snow performance than other AS tires but of course that’s brand dependent. I would go Pirelli again if they had a AS + that wasn’t so expensive for my wheels.
I'm looking forward to your thoughts. I love my Motivo's, especially the quiet and softer ride. I don't feel the road imperfections near as much as the pilots.
Wow, I am continually amazed at my assertions which get dashed by reality: in this case, that sounds like it is going to be a good thing. I had not, before my Stinger entered my life, ever had "summer tires" cross my radar. An almost non existent tread pattern seemed to provide a quieter ride. Logical, right? And the many times that I have asserted the "fact" that my Michelin summer tires are as quiet as any tire available, I have not been called on it till now. I more impled than asserted, now that I think about it. But either most people don't read what I post, or most people don't read for full comprehension: because my mistaken notion about tire noise being less with summer treads should have been called long before this! Hmm!?

Anyway, I am even more excited to try out these new treads this afternoon. If there is any noticeable difference I will hear it right away. If they are even quieter than the Michelins I will be slightly gobsmacked.

well, every tire is different as is each persons perception of road noise. I can say from my own personal experience i run a summer set and a winter set on my previous car. the summer set was louder than the winter set but to be fair the summer sets were 18's and the winter set were 16's. so take it that as you will.

That makes sense, a two inch diameter difference could be palpable. But I was specifically told on this forum weeks ago that winter tread is the noisiest way to go. So your comment is counter intuitive to me as well. :P

Perception is reality. Someone's reality only changes when they change their perception. Therefore, there was no point in calling you out. Who am I, for instance, to assert my reality is any more right than yours, lol?

Anyone tried any of the offering from Nitto (Motivo), Nokian (Z Line AS) or Toyo (Proxes 4 Plus) and can share their experience? Want to try something other than the main brands on the Stinger and these popped up. Share you experience please.

I've tried Nokian Hakkas and loved them.

I just replaced my rear tires with the Toyo Proxes 4 Plus. I’m ina GT1 RWD. I loved the Michelin Pilots but I only got 8k miles out of the rears and I can’t be replacing $300 tires every 8,000 miles and with the occasional snow and cold weather I’m in need of an all season tire.

I was a little worried I would lose traction with the switch but I’m surprised at how well they grip for an all season. Of course they are not as grippy as the summer tires but they still inspire a ton of confidence and are just as predictable. Unless you were overly aggressive or trying to run at the track you wouldn’t notice much difference for daily driving. They seem just as quiet on the freeway as well.

I’m still running the pilots up front for now because they are still practically new ( and as @MerlintheMad mentioned I had to buy a brand new front tire at 4K miles because of a lag screw in my sidewall). but I’ll be adding the Proxy 4 Plus to the fronts as soon as the snow flies. Had them all siped to help with grip and wear. Not sure if it makes a diff or not. It still handles very well even with the mixed summer up front and all season in the rear because the temps are still very warm where I live.

Edit: I just tried the Proxes with the traction control off and they do slip a little more and I do get mor tire squeal when the do slip but still very predictable. I’ll post more once I try them in the cold and snow.

On tires I have had over the years, some start off noisy and get quieter over time. The General G-MAX AS-05 I bought for my Optima were certainly noisy for the first couple hundred miles but then they quieted down. The Pirelli P7 AS+ was noticeable quieter than the OEM Kumho's and got quieter after that. The P7's AS (non-plus) on the Volvo was noisy from the start and seemed less so after 24K miles. Quietest tires I recall were the Kumho Ecsta 4X, they were also the most comfortable and were really great in heavy rain, sadly the sidewalls were soft and couldn't handle hard cornering. On the noisy front was a set of Sumitomo's that I got rid of as soon as I could, performance was great but the noise was horrid.

Happy happy joy Joy! :D I've done c. 25 miles on my new Nitto Motivo A/S "Y" rated (ultra high performance) tires. The first thing I noticed was less noise, not a lot less but still less. And the impacting with road irregularities, always a flat "slap" with the Michelins, was even more noticeably softened. The ride is smoother. On the freeway I turned on my PSI indicator and discovered that Big O did not look at the PSI ratings inside the door. Grrr. Whyever not? Tomorrow morning I will raise the PSI to somewhere near 45 and then let air out to 38 front and 36 rear: right now it is more like 34-35 rear and 32 front, running warm. Despite the slightly under pressured tires I took the I-215 interchange at a full 80 MPH and found them very satisfying; predictable and not "swayyey". The sidewalls seem stiff; probably not as stiff as Pilot Super Sports, but very adequate for "spirited" driving on normal roads. Running them at the right PSI should make them even a bit better. They are wider than the Michelins.

I carried the Michelins home in the back and stored them in the shed.

As you can see, I have a lot of tread left after just over 10K miles. The fronts are obvious, with half the wear of the rears.

Looking for some more info from you on these tires, The cooler temps are rapidly approaching so I'll need to get something sooner rather than later. I'll be heading up to NY for the coming holidays and that area is going to be cooler requiring tires earlier. Where are the beauty shots of the new tires?

Later. I had no time to take close ups of the new tires, only the old ones.

A correction: my "low" tire pressure isn't. I was going by the TPMS readout, which was forgetful of me: the TPMS has to calibrate upon getting new tires, and that takes at least 25 miles. As of this morning, the reading is c. 3-4 psi low but more consistent. Will it go up to read 36 and 38 psi? Time will tell.

If TPMS doesn't give an accurate reading, is there a remedy?

Similar looking thread design. These should be a little quieter, softer riding and decent in the snow. The seem like the fit the front rims better than the Michelins.

Here are some pics of my Nitto Motivo tires. I went with 245/45/19 all around. Slightly taller than stock. Speedo is of, I'm actually going 71.9 @ 70, and I'm good with that. The extra height gives a little smoother ride. 20180929_153132.webp 20180929_153107.webp

Hmmm..., they showed this as an option for the 19” wheel when I checked their site. How does it look in the rear?

Thanks! I’m looking for a closer shot to see how the tires fit on the wheel, seeinthat you went down fro 255 to 245 on the rear, wanted to see if it made a difference in how it sits on the wheel.

I think they fit perfectly. Hopefully these pictures help. 20180930_084952.webp 20180930_085006.webp 20180930_085018.webp 20180930_085026.webp

I threw the Stinger (on its Nitto Motivo A/S "Y"s) around a right hand turn at an intersection and got a tiny squeak out of one of the tires. The speed was "spirited". The Michelin summers never gave the first hint of any noise at that speed. So there is that difference already. Handling felt the same. I will try to get more cornering noise out of my tires and feel for the handling. But I bet that my driving style won't remotely test these tires compared to what the Pilot summers are capable of. It will take a ballsy "race car driver" to find the difference in full cornering potential.

Comparing a summer UHP tire to an all season, there won't be much of a surprise that you will lose some high speed traction with an AS tire.

Thanks for the photos. That gets your tire in the back flush for sure, the Michelin got a bit of a lip to help with protection from curb rash in the rear and front, but the front tires looks stretched.
