Burger Tuning JB4 for Kia Stinger!

I've tuned 100s of Canadian BMWs on "94 octane" over the years and it's often outperformed by the 91 octane those customers tell me they can easily get. It's your car. Run whatever you want to run on it. And it's easy to log/evaluate both to see what works best for your specific needs. But having been burned by that fuel on more than one occasion my advice to anyone who cares to hear it is to avoid it like the plague.

OK. Fair enough. You have WAY more experience with this than I could ever hope to have. The 94 octane fuel is a "Petro-Canada" fuel. Petra-Can also has 89 and 91 octane for sale. I would imagine that if the 94 is crap, then their lower octane fuels would be even worse. In your experience, is there a particular brand of Canadian fuel (91 or higher) that's better than the rest?

I'd use the JB4's logging features to evaluate your fuel options to see what works best if you're interested to evaluate. I think the "Shell V Power 91" is what most wind up using.

Biggest pain in the ass plug change I've ever encountered besides on my Forester's boxer motor.
I didn't take the intake off, I followed the other video that was posted on this forum elsewhere. Still a pain in the ass!
I think it was a combination of slightly too long extensions and too big/fat of sockets and swivels. Finally got it done though!
LOL hahaha I was ready to plant A C4 explosive on the manifold to removed the plugs. I feel your pain it took a while to get the right combinations...i needed to go with 1/4 extension because the 3/8 was to thick.

I have two sets of swivels and wobbly extensions coming today so I can swap the plugs. I about couldn’t wait and almost pulled the manifold yesterday. After running map 1 on 93 octane and stock plugs for a day I’m crazy excited. Map 1 itself is worth the JB4. Like people said early on, the car just comes alive. It’s how it should’ve run from the factory. The Stillen intakes sound mean now, too.

I was able to do more testing today. I tried a 0-60 run on map1. After launch when boost was climbing I heard some pinging for a second then no longer heard it. Looking at my logs it looks like after it started pinging boost dropped to around 10psi. Maybe it went into safty mode. I picked up a good octane booster and was able to get 18L of shell 91 into my tank and that has pretty much stopped the ping. I was able to to 0-60 with out loosing boost. I’m going to try and post these three logs to the other website tonight.

I was looking online trying to learn as much as I can about the jb4 and came across a bmw forum. There jb4 has a autotuning map that sets the boost for you based on your conditions and gas. I would love to see this added to the stinger jb4 how can we make this happen!

We makes lots of JB4s for lots of different cars. At some point we'll look in to an auto-tuning map for the Stinger for sure.

I’ve been having a great time with the jb4 now that I have stopped my pinging. I may have just got a really bad batch of 94 octane but I’m going to be switching to shell 91 after this tank is done. I added some fresh gas and I picked up a 25L jug of e85. I started slow only added 7-8L and it completely stopped any ping I was having. I was even able to run map 2 and it pulls very good.

Adam Im glad the crap gas was the problemo....I knew it had to be something other than the JB4....I made 2 pretty good pulls today, one on map 1, one on map2 ,and the car just flat hauls azz with no drama. The JB4 is one fine piece of engineering.....yes it is engineering to be able to interface with the car's ECU,code a lot of programming into the circuitry of a small pc board ....and then program tunes/maps to fit this particular car.... and then have it work so smoothly .... Wash

Does anyone know what the E85 gauge does? Can that tell me the % of E85 in my gas? I have the fuel wires installed. I added that gauge to my phone and it said 8 and then 9 another time. I have around 6L of E85 in my tank right now so 8-9% would be a good %... could also just be a coincedenc. Would be awesome if it did tell the % using the O2 sensors.

Glad to hear that you got your issue solved, but I certainly hope that mixing E85 isn't required to run map 2 on this with 91 octane pump gas.

Please consider adding your location to your profile - it helps to get a rough idea of what altitude you are running at, among other things.

I’m at sea level. After this tank is run out I’m going to try shell 91. Being at sea level and running the fuel wires I’m guessing I may still get some ping on map2. I’m ok with that I just hope map one is solid. That’s the tune I’m going to be running most of the time.

I've installed the JB4 for a few days and simply love it. A few questions I have and hope you guys or Terry can help me.

1) Why my mobile app cannot show oil temp? Only has water temp.
2) From the log, how to see if it is pinging or knocking?
3) At my place, the petrol sold are based on ron, unlike US which is based on AKI but it seemed like it is generalized as "octane". Any relationship used between ron and AKI. My understanding is that 91 octane is about 96 ron and 93 octane is about 99 ron. I know we need to mon but just hoping for any rule of thumb. My country best petrol is only 98 ron and it seemed that I'll never be able to use map 2 which is 93 octane. We also don't sell ethanol boosted petrol.

It’s weird my app used to show trans temp and now it no longer works. I’ll check to see if my oil temp works and get back to you.

I've only had the JB4 running for about a week now and kinda upset that there's no oil or trans temp info available.

We don't have trans temp or oil temp logging active yet. If trans temp was showing we had something else internal under there. But worry not, we're always working on updates!

@Terry@BMS how easy is it to update the firmware software I found one locally but it’s the first ver1. I wanna buy it since I’m in CA.

It’s easy to update if you have the Bluetooth. I’ve never tried from computer though.
