So I just picked up my Stinger GT2 on Saturday and I've noticed that the Idle Stop light comes on when I stop at lights, but the Idle Stop Off light also comes on and the engine doesn't shut down. (I'm colorblind so I can't tell if the dash light is green or yellow unfortunately.) Does anyone know if that's expected behavior during the break-in period, or if there's something I should be checking to see if it's preventing the system from working? Climate is set to auto so I would assume that isn't it, though since auto turns on a/c maybe it is? The system is enabled--when I'm driving, the idle stop off light isn't illuminated, it just comes on at stoplights. The dash light also doesn't blink like the manual says it would if there's a detected fault.

There is a button to your right, next to the passenger seat heat/cool option. Press it to turn it back on.

Right--the idle stop disable button. That's not activated, but its light comes on anyway when I stop and the engine doesn't cut off.

If you just picked up the car, the battery may have a lowered state of charge from transportation and/or sitting at the dealer. That's one of the biggest factors in whether ISG will engage.
Climate control is also a factor. With my A/C turned on, sometime ISG will shut the engine down temporarily, but will start up again soon as the car interior temperature rises.
Looks like you were onto something with the battery charge level. ISG started working on my drive home this evening--must have had enough time to charge.

There is another thread about the ISG that discuss it a lot more. Anyway, it is generally normal that sometimes the ISG does not turn your engine off (solid yellow light). There are many factors that contribute to this (temperature outside, ac, battery charge, etc...) and I do believe that you might have not satisfied one or more in your trip, preventing the engine shut off.

Its ironical when start stop works owners wants to turn it off indefinitely when it doesn’t work owners are asking why its not working. Just for a . I feel you as that is happening to mine lol.... I cannot care less as Stinger seems to be a car that have the most comment on ISG not working! I agree its due to conditions not met especially on battery charge in my case!

ISG is more of a gimmick to make the car more environmentally "politically correct". I just turn the silly thing off right after I start the engine.

I posted in another thread, my ISG stopped working. Now, when it should kick in, the engine keeps running and the light on the dash is a steady yellow. I brought my car into my dealership today at the direction of KIA VIP Support. They looked for codes and checked the battery - they couldn't find anything wrong, but the ISG didn't work. I have to bring it in again next week, drop it off for a few days (will be provided a loaner) and they will have to open a tech issue with KIA. They may have to do a software patch or something.
NYS Lemon Law may kick in if they can't repair it in four attempts. I'll keep everyone posted.

You'd give up your Stinger for "a few days" over ISG? Why can't they open a tech issue without keeping your car? Why does everything have to take DAYS???

Try going for a 50 to 60km drive keeping the revs up 3000rpm and above. Also take note keeping maintaining ac temp is critical if temperature is not met it will not kick in too. Thats how I charge up the batt and test the ISG. Mine stop working for the last 2 months and after some spirited drive it came back on.

Well, the dealership checked the battery, and it was adequately charged. Without knowing the cause of this problem, there is no way of knowing if it is part of a bigger problem - that's why I am willing to leave the car with the dealership(next week) to try to get this resolved.

I see hopefully nothing major. Leaving the car at the dealership is a additional duress. Hopefully all checks out fine. If they end up doing nothing go for a spirited drive and let us know. The charge they are measuring is with engine off or during idle? Charging during engine is started is going to be fine if not the batt light will light up. Not sure they are measuring with engine off or on. When a AGM batt is fully charge it should hold around 12.8V when engine is off. During idle dealers will say its fine when charging is above 14.1V when engine is running. Hope it helps. It is more critical when the battery is sufficiently charged than charging voltage with engine on.

OK - Update:
Well, as things have it, I think I figured out why the ISG stopped working. It so happens that a bracket on my iOttie wireless charge broke:

So, I disconnected it, and viola - the ISG started working. It appears that the wireless (induction) charging system is a big enough drain on the system that it prevents the ISG from kicking in. I did a little more experimenting. I decided just to plug my Samsung Note directly into a USB port (as I normally do so as to have Android Auto operable). The ISG worked for about 45-60 seconds that went yellow - it seems just having a phone connected to the car is enough for the ISG to disengage within a minute. I played around some more and confirmed that if climate control is cooling the car, the ISG also does not engage (as mentioned in the owner's manual).
Needless to say, I cancelled my appointment with the dealer, until I spoke again with KIA, which I did. KIA said well, bring the car to the dealer so the dealer can replicate what I discovered. I will do that when I have a chance.
So, the question is, is this acceptable? Should the drain of a cell phone charging be enough to disengage ISG? Especially since you have to have the phone plugged in to have Android Auto (or Apple CarPlay) running? I think not, and I intend to go to the dealer, have them replicate this and then pursue it with KIA. Probably all that is needed is a software tweak. I cannot imagine a charging cell phone would risk draining the car battery within a minute.
The community's thoughts on this would be most appreciated.

ISG is a "politically correct" feature to begin with. It is a silly/stupid idea to constantly be restarting the engine. The extra wear on the starter motor and connected systems will mean early replacement. So, as I said, I turn ISG off, first thing, after start up. I don't think that Kia put a lot of time into it. The feature is expected and they included it, and it works reliably, but also the conditions under which it will "temporarily" cease are many and often.

This is becoming standard in more and more vehicles. I have not heard of any vehicle being damaged by it - I am sure the starters in ISG cars are properly sized. So, its just a matter of getting used to it. As for politically correct; anything that reduces emissions of my car without sacrificing performance is correct in my book, politics aside.
