Idle stop not operating on new Stinger GT2?

I've posted this many times, but not in this thread it appears - the ISG on the Stinger is FAR less intrusive than on other vehicles I've driven that have it, mostly high-end recent model Mercedes - to the point that I don't even bother turning it off.

That said, I did turn on "auto hold" the other day and found ISG to be very irritating in that mode. Not sure what AH is supposed to do, as I am quite used to keeping my foot on a brake pedal when stationary, but the change in ISG is enough to ensure I won't ever bother using AH again.

Specifically, what annoyed me about ISG on other vehicles is that the engine did not restart until you applied pressure to the accelerator. On the Stinger, without AH, it fired up as you released pressure on the brake. That meant as I applied throttle, the engine was already running. With AH engaged, it does not appear to fire up until you start to accelerate - which is what irritated me on those other vehicles.

I've not done any extensive testing on this, but as AH is useless to me, I don't plan on it either..

Sorry, but there are dozens of people here, including myself, that fully understand the system but have found it to be flaky and inconsistent - and that there is much more to the system, and when it decides to work or not, than just temperature.
Yea, sometimes it will work fine for me in the morning at a stoplight... then 3 minutes of driving later at the next stop light it doesn't work. I don't get it...

I find AH very helpful on a hill or steep ramp. It keeps me from rolling back as I apply gas. I use it when I’m going into that type of situation, then I turn it off as it makes the car feel weird in normal driving.

Mine hasn't worked since October. Lol. Wonder if it is the battery like others have seen. Mine was a Nov '17 and sat on the lot for 6 months before I bought it. I'll have the dealer check that when they do the recall.

But yeah, a 12 mile 15 minute commute, and it hasn't worked once in ~3 months. Something is definitely wrong. Especially considering that during the summer, on the same trip, it worked fine and would shut off as I stopped in the garage every day.

You don't need auto hold for this...the Stinger has Hill-Start assist which will automatically apply the brakes for 2 sec to prevent it rolling back.

I didn’t realize that, thought it was part of Auto Hold. Thanks.

So, my dealer in Plano, TX (Central KIA) seems to have a fix - 2 days in a it's still working fine. We will see if it stops after a while, since it worked fine for about a month after purchase:
  • Disconnect both battery terminals
  • Slow charge original battery until FULL capacity
  • Re-connect both battery terminals
  • AUTO start stop feature will flash and work for approx. 25 times between this time and letting it sit. (Light will also flash)
  • Let vehicle sit for 4 hours OR greater and will recalibrate itself.
  • Also should be noted that the vehicle did not accept a brand new battery, switch replacement nor brake switch. This is with the original battery.

I was able to get the same result by simply fully charging the battery, over an extended period using a CTEK intelligent charger at low amperage.

ISG worked fine for about a week following, during normal short duration driving, then resumed it's usual 'now you see me, now you don't' behavior. Be interested to hear if you fare any better.
