I dropped my Sunset Yellow GT off on August 15th, and they are STILL stripping it. I’m guessing that’s the longest process? How long should it take once the stripping is done to paint and let the paint set? Its taking longer than expected, they said 3 weeks tops, it’s now past 3 weeks and it’s not even fully stripped yet.
I’ve sent in all of the paperwork for the re-purchase option. I’m hoping I get a good enough chunk of change and get trade in cash, since I traded in for the stinger, to get into a ceramic silver GT2 with a red interior for the same or less than the Yellow GT.
So turns out it is a defect in the clear coat that can be buffed out per the body shop the dealer uses.that looks much smaller than i have seen. is it soft? i have a few spots on my yellow that appear to be debris of some sort that was on the panel when it was painted. They look like bubbles but are hard to the touch.
Why did you have them repaint first if you were going to go with the rebuy option anyway?
They asked me for lien holder info as well so it could be slightly more complex then Contract Price only. Also, throw in accessories such as PPF and TINT and whatever and it further complicates items. You should be able to figure out the number based on the fact the repurchase option is at FULL contract purchase price.
I received my letter from Kia after providing all the paperwork. You get all the information before you need to make a decision. The buyback is fairly straight forward: Your loan is paid off and you get back your down payment, trade equity, taxes, licensing fees, all your payments made to the leinholder and anything you had added to the car as long as you have a receipt. I'm getting back the money I spent on window tinting, wheels, remote starter, PPF, mats. Kia hasn't argued about anything. The final letter has your three options and a signature line. Choosing the repaint does not negate the other two options. If you do the buyback you sign the paper selecting that option and Kia arranges for the car to be turned over to the dealer and the dealer hands you a check. The car does need to be inspected for more than normal wear and tear, paint issues aside. I got my letter in about two weeks.I sent in the required paperwork for buy back 2 weeks ago and got nothing. Not a single number. Billy however did call me back and said he would look into it.
Glad to hear this. I submitted all my paperwork plus receipts for extras about 1.5 weeks ago so am anxious to see a letter now. Interesting on what would be considered "normal" wear and tear. Lets hope they dont try to pull some BS on that one.I received my letter from Kia after providing all the paperwork. You get all the information before you need to make a decision. Looking at this on my phone so apologies if i am way off but it appears that the orange peel on the new paint is much worse...way more diffusion of the reflection. Sorry to hear its darker and great comment about the wife seeing that versus an enthusiast.View attachment 12273 View attachment 12274 View attachment 12276 View attachment 12277
I uploaded a few pictures after my first wash after the repaint. Anyways I just wanted to point out a few things I noticed.
Picture 1: Just show the color transition from a distance.
Picture 2: This shows the difference in paint color between the fresh pant on the body panel versus the unpainted plastic. The dark wedge is the darker new paint. The difference is less noticable in the direct light, the darker the ambient lighting the more obvious the transition. My wife pointed it out while inspecting the paint. So it's noticable by a non-car enthusiast, some of you may be dissatisfied with your results.
Picture 3: Bath time
Picture 4: This shows how much orange peel there was compared to the new paint. Original paint is on the left.
The body shop said they would repaint the rest of the car for $1500. At this point I can't really think of another car that I would switch to that has all this car has to offer. So there is no good outcome. None of the other colors appeal to me and to me, they could be just as problematic.
From what I was told, the inspection is to make sure there isn't any unprepared accident damage or you aren't returning the car with bald tires and you only have 1000 miles on it. I just emailed my contact today and let them know I'm giving them back the car.Glad to hear this. 10K and you're good with bald tires! I had to follow up with Linda and she contacted Consumer Affairs which is handling the buybacks and swaps. From that point it's been pretty straight forward. I'm now waiting for a turn-in date and check.Interesting...so 10K miles with bald tires would be acceptable...
I will follow up with email to Linda and the Team next week. i do understand it goes to a different division with regard to the buy back process. I have not been contacted by a new division yet.
