Kia Stinger Navigation Map Update

I just got a call from KIA customer service that there is a new map update to be released soon which is version 12.5. I was told that there is no longer access to version 12 so as soon as the newer version 12.5 is released that will get sent to me instead.

The Kia map update website is bad. It's got the 12.5 update announced on the home page, but the search function redirects to a separate, Canadia Hyundai website, which requires a separate account.

I hope someone can give exact instructions and links if it is in fact possible to download the update ourselves instead of paying via the dealer for an SD card.

You don't have to pay anything the first year anyway. My SD map card came free and it came swiftly, less than a week.

Yes, they've got it messed up right now. When I did my update to V12, I was able to download it, but if I try to access the 12.5 update now it goes to that Hyundai Canada site. I registered for that as well, but even though I now have a valid account, it requires you to add your car serial number - and it rejects the Kia serial number as invalid.

Yes, they've got it messed up right now. When I did my update to V12, I was able to download it, but if I try to access the 12.5 update now it goes to that Hyundai Canada site. I think that's because our VIN numbers are already registered via the phone app. That's my theory, since we know we have legitimate VINs.

I just got an e-mail this morning saying that there is a mandatory update for the app (Apple or Android) coming. ..."you will be required to download the new updated version of the App, which will grant you full access to your UVO Intelligence account and functionalities."

Doubt they are smart enough to resolve this mess via the update. It's completely ludicrous that we have a car with full telematics (Google search, remote start, etc.) and an app that can communicate with the car from the other side of the world, but cannot manage a system update. Other cars (including many at half the price or less of a Stinger) just do the updates automatically in the background and then ask you when is a convenient time to install.

You downloaded the 12.5 Navigation update?

If you're referring to the the Canadian UVO app update, that is a different animal - I posted a new thread about that. Other than cosmetics, I didn't see any new functionality in it either.

I doubted it would fix the map update blockage...but I bet no one checked to confirm.

No not the 12.5 update, the Canadian UVO app update.

Rumor has it that the new Apple iOS operating system due out anytime will incorporate Waze into Apple Carplay, and Kia is allegedly going to have an update to incorporate this change into their system. I'm waiting for that before any software updates to the car. According to the UVO app, my car is due for service in 63 days. Hopefully, by then all updates will have occurred.

Makes sense. Hopefully won't be long before they split the car system updates out from the navigation. I upgraded to v12 at no cost, but won't be purchasing further upgrades just for maps - at least not for a good while.

I normally used Android Auto/Google maps anyway, primarily because of the poor voice lookup on the native nav for destinations. However, this last road trip I tried using the mirror search button, which uses the car's cellular link to provide Google voice search with the native navigation, and loved it.

Search accuracy was spot on, and using it restores the benefits of native nav - like the turn by turn indicators in the HUD and computer display, split screen preview of the next few turns on the main panel, graphic view of intersections, etc. Give it a try if you haven't!

The Google search is the saviour of the nav. The nav itself is idiotically inept at voice recognition and basic geography. Entering an address in the regular nav system is enough to make someone go buy a paper map (or in today's terms, use the maps on your phone).

I don't have "a phone", I have a flip Tracfone; Bluetooth works, but I've never used any Google search. It needs "hooking up" or summat. So I've never pursued this.

Kia-gps.ca and .us are broken as of Friday. If you try for Stinger update 12.5 it redirects to Hyundai.. clearly an error but I’m surprised it hasn’t been fixed. Other vehicles work fine.

I’m getting pretty agitated by KIA.. I mean, I love my Stinger but there are some issues and the dealership says all parts are on back order with no date for delivery in sight... WTF.. KIA, if you’re selling cars have the parts available to dealers.

My rear view camera died after 5000km. There’s also some condensation building up in my rear window brake light and the weather stripping around the trunk window has come out.

Perhaps the redirection to the Hyundai site is suggesting I should have bought a Genesis?

I don't know what "telematics" is/are. I know that when I click on "G" search, I get a message that I need to activate and to get further information at myuvo.com. I've been meaning to do that. But I suspect it is a pay-for service through a cell phone account. I have, as I said, a Tracfone paid up for two years (I think it was two years; end of November I'll find out!). I doubt that Tracfone is part of what "powers" UVO.

Yes, that's what we get in Canada (and other countries) that is not offered in US. It's basically a cell phone data service for the car that you can only use for UVO-related things. And there is no monthly fee, because it's included in the price of the car, even though the Stinger is cheaper in Canada than the USA.
