• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Wrecked tyre :(

Thanks to all for comments, suggestions etc so far, really appreciated. One thing with the gouge out of the tyre, I can swap the front tyres around to hide it, but is it worth keeping in easy view to monitor it in case it gets worse though or in theory should it not get worse? Yer, not really up with the tyre biz!
I'm convinced just by the pics that only the rib is gouged, not the actual structural sidewall/belts. So, even though it has been suggested that you could still go WOT up to the car's maximum speed, if it were my damage, I'd just be careful: wouldn't corner hard to the right (to the point of oversteer or howling tires) and would moderate my straightaway speed (I think I'd put a 130 MPH limit on myself). And definitely I'd get the tires swapped so the damage is inside and out of sight.

Vis-à-vis repairing the rim: the deepest scratches look (by the pic) to be really down there. I'd sand only far enough to get rid of the upper (shallower) damage, then fill the deepest (remaining) scratches with the right color of rim touchup paint to match the alloy. You won't be able to see it from five, six feet away (that's my benchmark for "perfectionism":p).

@Wazz - might want to give a hint as to your profession - lots of Australians on here, who knows who might have a lead?

True @turboAWD good suggestion mate, thanks,

Wide and varied skill set though mainly in the electronic and print media - Radio Announcer (not much call for that these days), Account Manager (Sales), General Manager. Outside of media, Human Services (briefly), banking around a zillion years ago. Professional tyre and rim killer, I'm apparently a guru at that! ;)

Quick question. Local Bob Jane told me they could found some Pilot Sport 4 but told me his boss said the Stinger needs the 4 S tyres as they were OEM. Pretty sure my MY19 is not the 4S, maybe the MY20 is? Anyway I was told that it is grippier (read that in a previous reply to this post), and BJ staffer told me tread is same from 4 and the 4S. Still not sure if one 4 and one 4S will affect performance (handling)? Suggestions? Apparently can't get the old 4's in for at least a month. Still thinking of keeping tyre on, swapping to the RHS etc but still a bit qworried as I have an 11yo in the car with me a fair bit, was planning to see family 200km away via a smaller highway (Pyrenees between Bendigo and Ararat), road is a bit bumpy at times.)

Just take it easy, drive like a civilized person. That chip in the rib won't make the tire fail on you. Check your psi gauge often to keep yourself at peace; in fact, just drive with it displayed, that way you'd know instantly if the tire was starting to leak.

I am sure that you can drive with a PS4 on one side and a PS4S on the other side. One tire being grippier won't even be noticeable until you push the car carving curves (which you won't do with your kid onboard anyway); and at that point you'll either feel oversteer or understeer in one direction or the other: I have no idea which). But again, normal, even extralegal speed, won't show up with the mixture, especially since the tread is still good on the other PS4. If you were running a worn tire and a brand new one, that might produce some wonky feedback through the steering wheel, but nothing you couldn't adapt to: but not recommended, for sure (as well as making the rest of us Stinger drivers look bad:p).

The OE tire is (was?) the PS4, not the 4S.

Go forth and visit your folks. All will be well! :)

Cheers Bro, I will stick to the posted speed limits at all times* and see how I go. Was more concerned about an instant blowout as opposed to a slow/moderate leak if that makes sense.
* At all times translates to - may just be when the child is in the car. The "older child" driving the beast needs to play sometimes :D.

Hey Wazz, sorry for your mishap & job loss that really sucks especially just before Christmas.
This takes me back to a similar situation years ago when I hooked a tyre on a corner & literally sliced the sidewall open, instant flat & tyre was toast & I was also economically not in a good place either but we get through it.
I know it’s no consolation to you now, but I’m sure you will rise through this adversity & come out the other side & everything works out for the best.
Good luck & I hope you land gainful employment soon.

The tyres are the PS4 (at least mine are same year same car) not the PS4S, also I would not recommend mixing them as the PS4S is a different softer compound and more sports and grip oriented where the PS4 is a normal OEM road tyre more comfort oriented.

The damage won't get worse unless you gutter the same spot again. The tyre just wont blowout on it's own. Look at the tyre and you will see the label Pilot Sport 4, if they are Pilot Sport 4S it will say so. Don't trust a tyre joint take a look at the tyres.

If money is a factor then look for second hand if you can find it, otherwise once you have the funds, order a single replacement up to and including 10,000 KM on the car and just replace the one, if it takes a month for the tyre to come, don't worry it's ok now. if you go over 10,000 KM, it really comes down to your comfort and the wear levels as to replacing a single or doing the pair.

When you do a set sure put whatever but for now, I would not worry at all.
I did this on the second day of having my Silver 2019 GT back in March with the grand total of 25KM on the car and yeah I don't gutter tyres either .
I've since done 9400KM, 2 track days and a fair amount of spirited driving in the mountains on this tyre (you know the twisties where the police cannot hide). The same tyre was nailed and deflating at a rate of 25PSI per day in August, I got it plugged and has now held 40PSI (cold) for 3 months.

I guess my advantage is knowledge coming from a motor trade background, but I can assure you I'm not particularly kind to my tyres, ;)
Car tyres are pretty robust.

My wife admitted to a little faux pas this morning. She's rubbed a curb with the right front wheel again. First time was minor but this one has rash on two spokes. Tire is scuffed but should be fine.
I read back that these wheels can be sanded. Hope this holds true for my 2020 gt limited. Any pointers?

Yes, what I already said above (and elsewhere a bunch of times, heh). Heavy grit, then something around 200 grit and finish up with lots of water with 2000 grit wet sandpaper. The clear coat is gone, of course, doing this. But it passes the "five to six feet away" rule. I went through this a bunch of times, and finally got damaged in a car wash and had the OE wheels powder coated black.

Don't let the wife drive it again.
