We had a sustained wind storm today. My barely-a-month-in-my-possession Stinger (which must sleep outside due to lack of garage space) sadly took a few licks...

Nowhere near as bad as it could have been, but still a minor tragedy when I do so much to baby this thing…

(And while this isn't about racing, it very much is about my Stinger vs. the actual World we live in... )

Oh no, very sorry to see that. You must be gutted.
Yippee ki yay mother nature.
Were you home when it was happening, did you have to watch the weather pound the car?
And without meaning to pry, what's in the garage that forces the brand new Stinger to have to park outside?

thats terrible. sorry to see this. May i ask how you like the cover? I am in a similar situation with a "1" car garage which is really too small for any car... i asked on a FB group about car covers and they all said that when they are blown in the wind it'll scratch the paint, I'd be better off without one.

You need a cover that allows you to cinch it down tight, so wind can't move it (easily). Of course, in severe wind events like this there's not much you can do, just hope it's not for an hour+ straight the cover is moving then of course anything rubbing for a period of time can scuff.

Problem with good covers IMO is that they take more time to apply and remove. I think for most people who aren't storing for say entire seasons, a cover is probably overkill. Having to remove and reattach a cover every few weeks for a country drive might be incentive to not bother over time. I'm a fan of jumping in and going.

I'd wait until Arbor day and light that tree on fire. It would never see it coming.

Not in this case. Paint would be missing if the car cover hadn't been interposed. :(

Wow it was just a branch and it did that much damage? An entire tree fell an my stinger during a massive storm a year ago. We had all 6 cars parked out front. Thankfully my stinger didn't even have a scratch on it. 2 cars were pretty smashed but both still dove. Didn't even fix the minivan, just replaced the glass on the Camry.
What saved our cars was that the tree fell on our other tree. The pine tree took the hit and forced the other tree to slide down. It slid down on the minivan which is taller than my stinger so it took most of the force. Thank God for minivans, if any other car was there I'm pretty sure my stinger would have been left with scars. If the pine tree wasn't there or if it didn't withstand the hit then the Camry would have been a pancake. You can see the tailight of the Camry just under the massive tree. You can see the passenger window of the minivan under the massive branch on top of it.
All this proved that there is in fact someone watching over me  Also I know the photos are potato, but it was a massive storm out so yeah.

^^^Why don't I remember you saying anything at the time? After all your Stinger has been through (especially before you even got it), the last thing you two need is a mashed Stinger.

Is paintless dent removal an option? Not on the rocker panel, of course, but door looks doable.

Lol I totally forgot about it. That week was occupied by the cleanup process. Was pretty busy and I was just glad that my stinger was safe.

Did you remove the protective plastic film from your kaleidoscope's lense?

Haven't gotten the "Part Out" yet.
I say ChainSaw.

Yeah. This one has cinch straps on the front and the back. I didn't have the back as snug as I should have (lesson learned, but not because of scratches. Mostly because of billowing that made me realize I really should make it more taut).

Yes. I was. New car and all... but so grateful it's not very bad. Seemingly nothing shattered or was damaged badly, just some small dents.

My wife's car is in the garage, and the door is more of a 1.75 car width than a 2-car width. Even if we could fit the cars in there, I have two small children who would take turns adding dents to my vehicle every day on the way to and from school...

Should be. I've inquired. They want to see it in person... more to come!

We had a pretty nasty storm here the other day. Heard it was coming along with hail. Once it got close enough I hopped in the car and headed to the closest parking garage. I sadly do not have a garage of my own.

My thoughts are now turning to a more semi-permanent structure for the Stinger.

I can’t add anything permanent (house is a rental), and whatever I add can’t block the right side of the driveway (wife’s car needs to get in and out of the garage on the regular).

Most important considerations:

0. Must be a temporary structure and not impede vehicle access to the right side of the driveway / garage.
1. Must be safe year-round and able to withstand snow and heavy rain.
2. Must be able to handle the occasional tree limb falling on it, and gale force winds (#toosoon ?)
3. Should provide easy access to all doors (front and rear) so the family can load in without me backing the car in, out, and around.
4. Should shelter on all sides so that rain doesn’t kick up crud from the ground and deposit it all over the sides of the car…

Hmm. With the exception of point zero, I just described a garage, didn’t I?

Not an elegant solution, but...

^^^How do those fasten to the earth? That's the only potential wrinkle in that very affordable, practical idea.

Well, and the vision of a tree limb of any moderate size falling on it isn't pretty: this cover won't offer much if any protection against weight impacting it: and then the structure itself might cause more body damage than the limb would by itself.

This is still a better than nothing idea. If my Stinger was consigned to outdoors, I'd definitely get one of these if I had the spot to set one up.
