Why did you choose stinger vs G70

Hi, Im a 25 year old male not married with no kids interested in upgrading from a WRX. I was looking at the stinger and q60 however I have added the genesis g70 into the mix. To all kia stinger owners what made you decide to choose the stinger over the genesis g70? Im really into performance and all these articles and reviews are saying the genesis g70 is faster. I also want to note that from where I am from it looks like the genesis g70 mrsp is 8k more than stinger so thats a factor as well.
Youngsb, I drove both cars. The G70 has a more sumptuous interior. However I like the Stinger steering wheel better. The G70 is smaller than the Stinger. There is no foot well room in the back of the G70. The Stinger has better rear leg room, bigger storage with the hatch versus the trunk. I have a large dog and she fits in the hatch so I don't have to cover the leather seating when I have to take her somewhere. TheG70 doesn't feel any faster than the Stinger. They drive almost identically. In Canada, the Genisis costs more than the Stinger by a couple of grand. However they throw in scheduled maintenance with free loaner while its being serviced. They pick up and drop off the Genesis from your house as well. So It's about a wash on price. There is a youtube channel, Throttle House, that compares the cars. You can't go wrong either way.

What model G70 and Stinger are you looking at? That can make a HUGE difference in performance.

Definitely get the AWD if you want to go fast. It weighs more but it is SO much more reliable for traction. Trust me I have RWD and I regret it. I almost put it in the wall at the track because it was spinning the tires so much. The AWD guys never have any issues with traction at the track.

If you can do without the sunroof, better stereo, driver aides, heads up display...etc then get the base model V6 for either car. They are much faster then the top trims.

I have run as fast as a 4.37 second 0-60 mph and a 12.62 1/4 mile at 111+ mph just by simply swapping out the snorkels. That is without a tune. You can’t swap out the snorkels as easily with the G70 so I doubt it would be as fast as mine unless it was tuned and had other mods.

the G70 is great, but it is basically invisible out there amongst other cars. My car turns heads everywhere, constantly, all the time. it's crazy. so I kind of like that. nothing looks like a stinger. Also price was far better for the same level of equipment. GT2 fully loaded for 42.5k. easily 8-9k less than the equivalent G70. and I purchased, not leased!

I stopped looking at the G70 after I test drove it and the nearest Genesis dealer wasn't willing to play ball on the price. I was looking at a Siberian Ice (really like that color) 2019 elite package. They had a bunch of 2019s and 2020s on the lot. I started looking at the Stinger GT2 and it had all the same bells and whistles for much less. I also liked the design of the Stinger and the storage space much more. I'm glad the Genesis dealer wasn't willing to deal. Got a better vehicle and much better deal. Very happy with my GT2.
 
I was looking at getting a G70/80/etc. But they would sell before I could get my hands on them! Then I found the Stinger and said "that's more my style...." So happy I did. Maybe after this it will be a Genesis... I'm getting old and getting in and out is getting a little hard (maybe it's covid fat too hahaha)

Travis, You said it was easier to swap out the snorkels on you Stinger than the G70. What did you swap your intake for? I was looking at the K&N cold air intake kit.
 
Wouldn't you say the genesis brand is more luxurious and respected than KIA? Also I hear the interior is nicer and has a more of a high class style something to WOW the ladies.
Dude, nothing against the G70, think they are nice BUT if you think for a second, that the "interior/high class style" is going to WOW the ladies, you are sadly mistaken. The Stinger has "sex appeal"(had more likes from women than men when i showed up at work in my blue one) whereas the G70 is going to remind your "ladies" of their PARENT's car........not good when you are 24yrs old.....

I own the 2.0 Stinger and even though i won't WOW at the track, i prefer even the 2.0 Stinger over a G70 any day, even the 3.3 G70....not even close!

How important is LSD? Only the GT limited comes with LSD.
 
I bought my stinger at 23. It’s waaaaay better looking and cheaper. More practical with the hatch.

Don’t buy a car to attract females. 99% of the attention and compliments I get are from guys. Women really don’t care at all. Same with motorcycles haha. One girl I took on a date a while back complimented the red leather. My girlfriend likes it a lot but it definitely wouldn’t have mattered to her what kind of car I had when we started dating. Other than that, the attention has been from other guys.

get the stinger, you won’t regret it. I’d say get an AWD GT or GT1

I too had a 2017 WRX with a few mods, that FA20DIT motor is just trash. But that’s for another forum. I was considering both as well. In the end the stinger had a stronger community, which means better mods and aftermarket products. But my choice was made up because KIA offered 0% intrest, 8-10k cheaper, and more dealers to choose from in order to get the Costco Program discount (look it up if you haven’t). You won’t regret it. Seriously, it’s so nice to be able to put it comfort mode for the wife so I don’t have to hear her complain when she drives it. FYI keep it in Sport mode for yourself Lol. Happy hunting

No but it’s all wheel drive and honestly I don’t see any need for it. The AWD system is pretty damn good without it. Here’s a thread on it:
 
Like MONUSA, I got the 2.0. I had to have the Sun and Sound package (could have gotten a stripped GT). I also wanted the White exterior so that the black vents, and parts would stand out along with the black Sunroof (again, GT not available in white at the time). Also got the light gray interior. If you are wanting to impress ladies.....many more will see the exterior than the inside. If ladies are looking at your car's interior.....they're already hooked. As many have previously stated.....the Stinger is the way to go between it and the G70. The Stinger for looks, convience and performance to include a ton of aftermarket items. 20200902_211422.webp

The trunk space on the G70 was a non-starter. I felt it had less capacity than my Corvette, and for a full size sedan that was an issue for me. And IMHO, the G70 does not look as good as a Stinger.

Wouldn't you say the genesis brand is more luxurious and respected than KIA? Also I hear the interior is nicer and has a more of a high class style something to WOW the ladies. One of the biggest factor for me however is speed. Im a speed demon.

If you want something to be a race car, you are buying the wrong vehicle. The Stinger is a GT car first and foremost, and it will always be. It weighs 4000 lbs.

If you're trying to attract the type of women who go for fancy cars, you're also buying the wrong vehicle. Those type of women know BMW and Mercedes-Benz, and if your car doesn't have either of those badges, they aren't interested.

The only US spec stingers that have both all wheel drive + lsd are the dark blue (indigo trim) and the orange (GTS trim). I’ve driven mine (GT1 Awd/no lsd) and the (GTS Awd/lsd) but didn’t really notice a difference at least with lightly spirited driving. The gts/indigo in awd do get the drift mode though.

What do you do 0-60 mph and the 1/4 mile in with the way it is right now? Do you have any dragy results? Just curious to see what 20+ horsepower translates to in performance for the Stinger.
Sadly I don’t not have any dragy times. Have tracked it once when I had only intakes, best time was a 12.7
However I’ve roll raced my friends Bolt on/tune 5.0 before and after the addition of my secondary downpipes + catback. We’re pretty much even now compared to before where he started pulling ahead around 80-90. I did those mods more for the sound than HP gains anyway aha.

I don't really need the bigger space in the back though. I will mainly drive these cars as a coupe with just my girlfriend. I want something thats fast and looks high class. Hows the KIA interior?

Get the G70. Or get a BMW 3-series, or an Audi A4, or a Lexus IS. Those cars compete with the G70. The Stinger does not; it's a wholly different kind of car.

yea but I want something that can take on M2 and rs5. Im assuming a modded stinger or g70 can accomplish that. I love underdog cars that catch people off guard.
 
get the stinger! it's awesome. jb4, intake, and you will be running fine! zero to 60 between 4.1 and 4.2 all day! plus it's the biggest head turner. although, If I had the money, I would definitely get an RS5! but 80k and 42-45k is a big difference. I'm in a GT2 with all the mods you see in my signature for under 50k.

Stinger will never take on the M2 because it will never be able to handle like the M2. In a drag race, maybe. But if there is turning involved, not a chance.
