I found this video review of the Chevrolet SS interesting because, as we all know, this car was built by GM Holden in Australia, locally known as the Holden Commodore SS. I actually tend to agree with some of the small issues the reviewer spoke about, and i found it interesting to hear how it, according to him, didn't catch the full attention of US car buyers, with limited or even no advertising, i found it funny how he described the look of the Camaro , Charger and Challenger.
Finally, is their anyone, especially our US forum members, who know why the white reverse lights illuminate when you lock and unlock the car with the remote, a GM thing according to the reviewer.

I think all GM cars with keyless entry have this feature...you can see your car at night from a distance walking up to it, etc. etc. Headlights turn on too.

Wow. The fake venting on the SS (all of them) is even worse than the Stinger (some of them).

2 of them ... only bonnet is fake

I was just going by what the reviewer said. Everything I found on search suggested the side vents were decorative only. This press release from GM makes it sound like the hood/bonnet vent were made functional as of '16. So, conflicting information, and may depend on model year.

Sorry for confusion, the Stinger only has 2 compared to all on the SS.

I had a buddy who had one for a short time. Very nice car IMO, but I think it was too expensive for what it was. He ended up trading it for a Camaro SS.

It falied because it looked exactly like a Malibu. No one wants a that much of a sleeper car. In fact I don't know who would want a car that looks like a Malibu at all.

Also the fact that GMNA closed down manufacturing in AU because our Govt. wouldn’t subsidies them any more, now offers Euro Junk, 10 year old Craptivas etc. Ford did the same, killed off manufacturing the Aussie made falcon with 50+ years heritage here as a not relevant vehicle then has the gall to offer US made Mustang....really? What Ford fans should have done is shunned it on mass & let it fail.
At least KIA is offering new relevant vehicles full of tech with world leading warranties & competitive pricing, they are setting their own standard & not following the pack.

Owner of a G8 GXP. I was very excited about the SS but couldn't get over the bland look of the car. As enthusiastic as I was about the car and as much as I got to know it, it pissed me off to no end that IT LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE A FREAKING MALIBU. So I kept my G8 and shook my head every time I looked extra hard at a Malibu thinking it might be an SS out on the road.

Did you sell the G8 GXP for the Stinger ?
I did sadly. I had an '06 GTO when I bought my GXP and tried to keep both. Ended up arguing with the wife about the extra car in the driveway and didn't feel like doing that again. Got a really good price for it though. Really made giving her up a bit easier.

Awesome, your 2006 Pontiac GTO is our Holden Monaro, and the Pontiac G8 GXP is our Holden Commodore VE SS, i hope you enjoyed them, you have made a wise choice to buy a Stinger, and not a Chevy SS, i am waiting on my Stinger now, but i was close to buying a Holden Commodore SS-V with a LS3 6.2 V8, which is, similar to the Chevy SS.

Doug DeMuro is a fantastic reviewer. Probably my favorite. Sure he's a little quirky and nerdy, but I love his detailed tour of the cars and his fairly unbiased "live" reactionary review as he actually drives the cars. He also tends to mostly drive really interesting cars. He doesn't typically review your every day Camry or Accord, but he'll review anything that has something interesting about it.

Apparently he is releasing his Stinger review video next week, and I'm pretty excited about it.

Well considering the Stinger looks better, is higher quality, has a more practical boot, and as fast as the SS then I’d expect Doug to score it higher!

However he does get a lot of things wrong and doesn’t fully investigate options you can get on a car, so misses a lot of stuff out.

I enjoy his videos, but if you like a car he reviews, do your own research.

The reason i posted the Chevy SS review was of course, this car is our Holden Commodore SS, and it is interesting to learn why this car failed in the US, and yes, he is a bit quirky and nerdy, and his reviews are detailed, and those little details like not having the Chevrolet word or logo on the engine cover, it would bother me a little, and it was funny when he got frustrated with the reversing lights illuminating on lock / unlock, thanx for the heads up on the Stinger review.

Yea. To be fair, he's not one of my favorite reviewers because he helps me decide which car to buy next. I agree you'll get a lot more valuable information on your own. But I don't go and buy a new car each week, so his videos are just a fun way to experience a bunch of cars that I otherwise might not have ever looked at.

Yeah I agree, I especially like his reviews of quirky models, or really rare ones.

Still I find modem cars he gets a long wrong, so he is for me more entertainment than a reviewer of new cars.
