White stinger emblem change paint chips. Bad quality paint job?

Yikes. $500!! Just for the front.... really should of just gone to a body shop to begin with. Sigh.. has anyone gotten quotes on wrapping? My gf suggested a wrap if my paint job was going to end up costing a lot. We were thinking possible matte grey. Like the mb stock matte color.

Yeah, it was a shock at first but makes sense after watching all the youtube videos on paint repair lol. I actually got a quote from car wrap city here in the Dallas area. Full body color change for 3k. And in regards to the damaged badge area, they said they could not wrap over it.

So basically I am just out of luck for trying to save money by doing it myself. Lol sigh... guess I won't be wrapping it after all.

1000000% agree with Westcoast. I took my Optima badges myself and had no issues. I just left it in the AZ sun for an hour and then used fishing line to saw it off. I am assuming the guy who did my ppf did use a heat gun. But he said a little bit of paint pealed under the front badge which was completely covered by the badge, but he allegedly had it touched up anyways.

To speed it up a bit, what I did with my Optima badges is that once I got one of the sides of the badge unstuck from the car, I used a slim flathead screwdriver to pry it off. But when doing this make sure no portion of the screwdriver touches the car.

I had to do this a few tunes do to the badges peeling and fading. I didn’t want to deal with it again which is why I went with the OEM quality E badges.
Can you post a pic of the front? I got PPF from same place you did and the front badge has the PPF right up to it. The circle E would not match the oval cutout of the PPF...perhaps you thought of this before hand.

Unfortunately I realized this after so have only done the the script rear. No issues on paint with my yellow. Used a hair dryer and plastic trim removal tools.

BTW...thanks for the referral to Cactus Tint. They did amazing job.

The culprit is the heat gun. Totally unnecessary - people end up using it for too long or pointed at a single spot for too long. A strong fishing line and some plastic prying tool does the job. I got a white Stinger and had no paint peels on either front or back.

I only used the heat gun because of stinger and me video...

I used fishing line, a plastic card and a flat blade screwdriver on the deck lid badge and little Stinger. The adhesive will release very slowly with gentle pressure but it takes a long time. I didn't get any paint flaking, but the HiChroma red on mine was slightly discolored from the effect of the adhesive. Polished but didn't change the color. It is only noticeable if you get it just right in the light and know what you're looking for. So the point is that the paint color may make a difference in the amount of discoloration.

It's not totally wrong to use a heat gun, but a hair direr would be better ... with a heatgun, you need to keep distance and only wave it quickly over the area etc. Otherwise they'll quickly cook anything, it's several hundred degrees of heat out of there within short distance and all you need is a somewhat warmed up gum to make it easier :)

Wrap it in chrome, I dare ya! It would look awesome!

Direr....Swiss word for drier. Lol!
Here’s your warm gum

All things aside , I totally agree with what you said but will play safe and leave stock badges on.

A little update. My sister had a pretty bad front end collision about 3 weeks ago. So I went to check on it at the body shop and talked to the guy about my paint chips. First thing he says to me is man I would of done this for you for like $50. Why'd you go and do all this....

Thankfully due to giving them my business for my sister's nearly 13k repair paid by insurance. He was willing to do it very cheap to fix it. Apparently he needs to repaint the whole rear section. Can't just touch it up or it's not going to look as good. He's going to have to take both the gt emblem off and the stinger emblem. Then paint. Then put them back on using some kind of 3m emblem tape. He's just charging me an hour for paint work and $30 for paint. So less than $100 for it. And he said the front is worse, apparently the whole bumper has to come off. So he's going to save me some paint and give me a brush pen so I can try and cover it best I can myself.

Dropped my car off this morning and just picked it up. Amazing work by the body shop, glad to know I picked that place for my sisters car. I drove around to 4 body shops yesterday. Including the Kia collision center who wanted $3k to fix it. This body shops owner took care of me and only charged me $150 flat. He even touched up the front for free. Its noticeable but at least it's not a big black spot anymore.20180320_164056.webp

@JustThatPenguin
Yeah, all paints with flakes in should be noticable when spot fixing ... not sure how the pearl ones are, but probably similar to a different orientation of the effect, so spot repair won't ever be perfect ... 3k would have been a repaint of both panels or whatever (and still be silly pricved IMHO). But for 150, I'd say it looks good? And now you can sleep again? :)

The body shop took off the rear emblem, peeled the adhesive off it. Sanded down the area. Painted it. Applied some kind of adhesive to the emblem again and reattached it. And with the leftover paint, they touched up the front. All that for a mere 150. I am extremely happy. You can't tell at all there was damage from the rear just the front where you can tell.

Thread ressurection, totally my fault my dumbass went too crazy w heat gun... ceramic silver bubbled a bit n chipped from raised numbers on credit card I was using. Worst part is covered by emblem but pretty bad on front end
I'll attempt to fix w those paint pens.. wife just rolled her eyes lol
Wat a fail on a week old car
Live n learn
Wats the best way people remove remaining adhesive? Goo gone then wipe and scrap off w plastic card? Paper towels?
