• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

What's the best time for our server upgrade?

As you might have figured, most of our web traffic comes from the U.S. and Canada. Therefore, when there's bound to be some down time, my first mission is to prevent it from being during primetime at this side of the world...

However, our next highest amount of traffic comes from Australia and New Zealand - so I also need to be mindful of our downtime for those of you on that side of the world...

I typically try to keep server upgrades (and downtime) restricted to between 2am EASTERN TIME (11pm in California) and 7am EASTERN TIME (4am in California).

During these times (remember, eastern time) - what might be the most comfortable time for downtime for those of you in Australia and New Zealand? We'll need about an hour to perform the upgrade...

Those times sound about right Sal. There wouldn’t be too many users on this side of the world during those times I wouldn’t think.

I’ve noticed there are very few people online on Sunday nights. So maybe do the upgrade at say maybe 2AM Monday morning Australian time? If that suits users on your side.

We're also pretty used to upgrade outages occurring at times to suit the US for other services. Notice of outage is often more critical than timing of it. :)

Agree with this, those times look ideal Sal.

Yep things go quite in oz after 9-10 pm perth time, sundays are dead too . Do what you have to do. We can grin and bear it. Just give us all a days notice maybe ?

While your there ive got a few bits that need an upgrade too, can u help me out there...lol :D:rofl:

02:00-07:00 EDT is 14:00-19:00 AWST (Perth), and 16:00-21:00 AEST (the other coast)..

That said, how long is the upgrade expected to take?

The upgrade should only take about an hour... I guess there's really no good time to do this... Unfortunately, it's going to be right in the middle of the day in Australia... Is there a point in the day where it might be less busy because of, say, lunch or dinner?

It’s probably going to be one of those situations where you’ll never be able to suit everyone because of differing work schedules, RDO’s, shift workers etc so maybe just run with whatever suits you best and we’ll just deal with it. It’s only an hour after all. We do appreciate your courtesy in trying to accommodate us though. The only thing I would add is do it on a weekday not the weekend and as Manaz noted prior notice would be handy.

I’d say a weekday just after lunch 1:00pm as the majority of us will be at work so disruptions would be minimal.

After visiting Perth not long ago, l'd say everyone's in bed by 9-10pm :p:eek:;)

Would 2am Eastern time work? I'll be sure to let everyone know when to expect the downtime.

Funny thing is - every time I send somebody in Australia an email in the middle of my day, I get a response almost immediately. I've come to believe that Australians really don't sleep. :p

2am Eastern time, if I worked it out correctly would be 4pm AEST here in Victoria and some other states, WA is 2 hours behind and would be 2pm AEST, sounds good to me, I'm sure we can all manage to have a break from the forum for at least an hour, where ever you live, hope the times are correct for Australia.

The Bank I work for do their server upgrades at 2.00am Monday mornings.
