What did you do to your Kia Stinger today?

No worries Wolf...I'm a night owl lol! I used a spray bottle with a bit of dish soap heavily diluted with water. You lightly mist the back of the decals and position them (after thoroughly cleaning the tail lights of course). The soapy water is so they side around and are easy to reposition. I didn't buy one of their squeegees. I used one of my small micro fiber towels folded over a credit card and it worked perfectly. You just want something with a flat edge thats not going to scratch the decals. Micro fiber is perfect. I also used a hair dryer to soften the vinyl. This helps to mold the vinyl around the lights and also speeds up the drying process. Once you start doing it you'll see how easy it is. This was my first time working with vinyl. It was a breeze and turned out perfect. Good luck and if you have any questions with the install feel free to PM me :thumbup:View attachment 41918

Your car looks awesome! Does the tinted vinyl make the indicators and reverse lights less bright?

Thank you very much Kas! It's a labor of love for sure :). It definitely dims them a bit but not so much that you can't see them. I had the wife sit in the driver seat and put it in reverse and I could see the lights no problem and that was on a sunny day. Come to think of it, that's the first time she's ever sat in the drivers seat lol. She refuses to drive it which is great for me! Every time I go out to the garage, her cars gone and the Stingers there just waitin for me :)

I found the indicators to be a litter deeper in colour but not much difference in the reverse lights as I have LED which are pretty strong.

G’day KAS! Mate, first up, my comment about Adelaide drivers does not mean everyone, present company included! I hope you didn’t take offence to it, I should learn to keep my opinions to myself. Apologies my friend. Yes! That was more than likely my first Stinger if it was at AB Ford. It actually took quite a while to sell, not to mention the fact that whoever drove it around the car yard to clean it etc., scraped the crap outta the PERFECT rims! Go figure! LOL! My first thought of the Ceramic Gray was ‘looks like a primer!’ But it grew on me very quickly and I’m glad I have it! By any chance would you be a member of the Stinger Owners Group here in Adelaide? I’m really looking forward to my first run with them! Heck knows how long that will be!

Haha, no worries about comments about Adelaide drivers! I actually pretty much agree with you. :p

Adelaide sure is a small place - I figured there couldn't be that many Stinger owners in Adelaide who upgraded from a Ceramic Gray 4cyl to the big six. Just like you, I thought Ceramic Gray looked like primer! So I ended up choosing silver. Ideally I wanted the very nice red metallic but I had my heart set on the red leather seats so my options were limited. I'd love to go for a run with other Stinger owners! Only problem is you'd all probably leave me for dead! But it would be great to attend once this whole pandemic issue is over.

They still look bright! I might try smoking my rear lights, too.

@CJ Wolf
Doubt you would recognize the place these days. Lots of high-rise apartments, new stadium, so many restaurants, light rail construction going up Church St just to name a few.

yeah, I was back there to see a mate a few years ago and got lost with all the new connecting highways and off ramps! Was like being back in the US! I had a really nice townhouse about 2 minutes walk behind Castle Towers Westfield.
Took me a while to settle back in here in Adelaide, or ‘Sleepy Hollow’ as I call it! Don’t think I would survive Sydney anymore, lived there for about 23 years. Thanks again for the advice my friend, let you know how it goes with the smoked out tail lights. Take care mate!

Actually, I came up behind a silver Stinger on the freeway to Mt. Barker Bunnings yesterday, ‘Stingr 9’? Waved at the lights at the Mt. Barker off-ramp, wasn’t you was it? Why don’t you check out the ‘Stinger Owners Group Australia/NZ’, a group I recently joined just before this pandemic started. I’m looking forward to my first run with them too! John Hopkins is the fellow who started it, nice bloke. Check it out anyway, with my ceramic ‘Gray Wolf’, the group now has every colour car! Sound like a really good bunch of people who like us, enjoy their Stingers!

It's a good and inexpensive mod and compliments SS very well.

Castle Towers, know it well as I lived in Crestwood area of Baulkham Hills for something like 35 years.

No, that wasn't me - my license plate is the same as my username here - 'KAS'. I love how Stingers are still a rarity on the road. I've had numerous total strangers strike up conversations with me about how good the Stinger looks - if Stingers were common then people would soon become familiar with them and no longer think they're special.

Made the world's first stinger to be held together by zip ties and still drive. Drives just fine. Frame guy said he's going to do a better job than the zips though. #soonIMG_20200515_105628.webp

What have I been doing TO my Stinger today? Buggering up my TSW "Watkins" LR wheel, getting a car wash. When will I ever learn?!:rolleyes::(

Why did I break my resolve to myself, made last year when I got these spiff wheels first put on? "These are NEVER going through a car wash tunnel!" Well, a series of unfortunate events sort of weakened that resolve. The tl;dr version is: the unfortunate events made the wheels less than perfect; some I inflicted, some was natural attrition. And the end result is that I became less scared of doing damage in a car wash tunnel. Well, that is no longer true! I am NOT going to subject my "summer" wheels or myself to this abuse ever again.

Today, my car, having just been spattered by a very dirty rain; while I was about to turn onto the highway that leads to my street, I had a sudden "inspiration" to save myself some time and give Karl some business (last time I was in there was the end of winter to get an undercarriage spray, before I put the TSW wheels back on). Well, dang! That wasn't inspiration, it was demonic influence.

I didn't see it until I got home and walked around the car drying the last vagrant water droplets off. I immediately returned to report to Karl what he had done; because he had personally put my car into the tunnel.

His response? Not interested in seeing the damage, because he assured me that the problem wasn't his tunnel or his placement of the car. And I believe him, as far as him doing it right. But he blamed the car possibly having an out of alignment issue, mentioned "pothole" once and then said that he hadn't noticed these wheels were different from the ones I send through his tunnel during the winter: he admitted to noticing that they were sticking out beyond the tires a bit; but assumed, as the car had gone through his tunnel "a million times, hundreds of times anyway" (whatever!), that there would be no problem. However it occurred: in the tunnel the car drifted to the left and mangled the ends of every spoke and the rim between; but the LF wheel was totally spared. He said that his policy is to refuse to tunnel any car that has rims that stick out beyond the tires. Well, why did he not double check? Just because this is the same care doesn't mean it has the same wheels as winter: so, he should have looked twice to make sure these rims were out too far. I didn't know that there was an issue with this, but now I do. Live and learn!

I chatted him up pleasantly, hoping that he'd relent and offer some kind of compensation (I imagined the best I'd get out of him - this second time his tunnel has banged up wheels of mine! Heh!! - would be helping pay for Wheel Werks to fix the wheel), but all he said was, "With rims that stick out you have to hand wash only. Next time you come in we'll hand wash." Right.

I immediately went to work doing touchup. This is by far the worst damage to any of my black wheels, ever; the most extensive and brutal. My touchup kits (gloss and flat black) were seriously depleted, and the gloss especially started to get gummy. Grrr!!!

But, from five-six feet away you can't see anything; and wouldn't notice it if you didn't already know the wheel was buggered up. That is why I went with black in the first place: easier to make presentable when this sort of Crap happens.:p

Oh no, not again Merlin. I do like those wheels, or did like them I should say. No only joking, you can't tell once you have touched them up.

Here’s to the rarity of it! Let’s hope it sorta stays that way! I reckon KIA have made a good mark on the market with this beast! I get the same thing, regularly! People circling my car like a shark asking questions. The ‘E’ badge on the bonnet and trunk gets them scratching their heads too, love the facial expressions! I’ll keep an eye out for you when I’m out and about KAS!
