What did you do to your Kia Stinger today?

Did some taillight vinyl and rear reflector vinyl today.

I think that "blacking out" of the tail lights looks particularly good on the Pearly White. Of course, it also looks "particularly good" on the Aurora Black. Two extremes!

Well apart from washing it, I gave it full throttle for the first time, it’s done 800km’s so I thought it’s about time. After coming from a life time of small engine vehicles, this boy is rather intimidating.

My TSW "Watkins" rims with the OE Michelins are back on. I loaded them up in the hatch, then drove to Wheel Werks and they put them on and put the OE rims and Nitto Motivos in the hatch. When I got home and put the A/S tires and OE rims on the shed they felt plenty heavy; given that each weighs 13 or 14 lbs more than the Watkins and Michelins do.

The book says 1000 kms, be careful. Keep it under 4000 revs.

2 quick accelerations at over 800km’s on the clock in the grand scheme of things won’t make a difference. 1000km’s is the “safe zone” but the engines at this stage should be well and ready for normal life.

REVs are the meaning of life whilst driving. But I did my first 600 miles as instructed, between 2K and 4K. I did those miles in Sport and using the paddle shifters. And I kept one eye on the tach.

Seeing these Stinger photos on the last two pages and all I can think is...why hasn't KIA made the large "Stinger" font standard yet in America?! It's the most eye-catching look for the car, in my humble opinion. I feel like KIA is too in love with their own "KIA" badge here in the States.

The manual says: "By following a few simple precautions for the first 600 miles (1,000 km) you may add to the performance, economy and life of your vehicle.

• Do not race the engine.
• While driving, keep your engine speed (rpm, or revolutions per minute) between 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
• Do not maintain a single speed for long periods of time, either fast or slow. Varying engine speed is needed to properly break-in the engine.
• Avoid hard stops, except in emergencies, to allow the brakes to seat properly.
• Don't tow a trailer during the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km) of operation."

They don't say what "long periods of time" is. So that is subjective. "Fast or slow" would mean under 2K rpm and over 4K rpm. The worst that could happen if you drive the first c. 600 miles at "really low" rpm is that your engine might ask what in hell you are up to, the first time you engage the turbos. "Turbos? We have turbos?" And you'll have to talk your engine into being a high performance one the first few times. I jest, of course, because other than abusing an engine with high rpm demand when it's brand new (and thus compromising components before the engine is broken in) - and that could arguably shorten the life of the engine as well as harming its economical operation - I can't imagine how taking it easy right off the bat could cause any immediate or lasting harm. I've never read on this forum how driving sedately with a brand new car is harmful. The idea seems rather daft to me.

But what do I know? I read the manual and did as I was told.

Well I guess you could say someone else did this to my Stinger since they admitted fault and their insurance will be covering the repairs... Sigh

All I will say is that there’s a big difference let’s say in launch controlling your car out of the dealership compared to doing so a at 800 or more KM’s.

Because the argument is as simple as this. 1000kms is the limit of break in right, so if you launch control at 987km’s.............

(I haven’t used launch control as of yet for the record, just two “rolling” accelerations to 6k whilst the engine oil was at max running temp)

Well, crap! At least it isn't cracked. If you have a touchup kit, you can make it look a lot better until the repair is done. (I just hate crap like this!)
