What did you do to your Kia Stinger today?

In the dimness of late evening, I followed an SUV on the left of a semi truck. Trouble was, the SUV had moved a bit to the left, apparently to create some extra space for passing; so it seemed to me. The lanes on Pacific Coast Hwy are not that wide. I don't know what the SUV did, but I high centered on a cement barrier that is all but invisible between the yellow painted lines. Thought I had mortally injured parts of my car!? WTF?! Yes, I said offensive things in the presence of my wife. I don't take any of them back. But I did say I was sorry that she had heard them. I had instantly hit the brakes upon hearing the grinding/ tearing sound coming from the bottom of my car. And I didn't move, except to leap out and cross the street and sit with my head in my hands, while police came; and somebody turned on my hazard lights; and people going east and west jinked this way and that to get around my stranded Stinger. Finally, a tow truck came. An "old school" type with a HOOK!? I woke up then and decided that it would be better to try first to move off the barrier, rather than let that maniac throw a hook on my car and drag it off!?? So that is what I did. Later, at the motel, I prepared myself for the worst and had a look. Not too bad! Just the cover under the engine got torn on the driver's side. There is a scrape along the larger cover toward the rear, but no tearing there. I didn't overreact. This is my Stinger, my favorite material thing. It is a special kind of pain when I do anything to hurt my car.

It wasn't my fault. But that just makes it all the more annoying, to be ambushed by what one does not see.
Ouch!! You have my sympathies. Glad there wasn’t much damage and no one was hurt.

Thanks. I wasn't following the SUV too closely, and he was pulling away, going places I could not follow.

So sorry, Merlin. Yep, we have some weird things on our roads here, especially on the Westside. (Or maybe I just don't notice weirdness on the Eastside because I'm so used to it.) And having had to follow a weaving semi home this morning, I get why you pulled left. Don't let it ruin the rest of your trip!

My GT2 is in fine fettle after a hand wash and a carnauba wax. I had my doubts at first, since the usual check-in guy at the wash I go to, who's worked there for 20 years or so, wasn't there, and the young lady who wrote up my ticket didn't know what carnauba wax is. Finally one of the guys told her "Past-eh," while making the motion of scooping paste wax out of a can and rubbing it on the car. So my ticket said "pasta," and I half expected her to come back to me festooned in spaghetti. But she's beautiful, so when I take her to meet the district service rep tomorrow about my miniscule roof ditch moulding paint chip, she'll know that I am babying this car and expect perfection.

Thanks! I have vowed to never, ever again, under any circumstance, put my left wheels over a center demarcation in the dark (i.e. somewhere that I cannot see). If it means slowing down and not passing that semi, fine with me! I'll just get behind it and let everybody else have at passing it.

You WERE the Stinger in the wild. :)

Don't let it ruin the rest of your trip!
Hollywood Riviera Car Wash
I haven't let it ruin anything (beyond the undercarriage panel). Yesterday, I made myself feel better by going here. The result was a car that is cleaner than when I first drove off the dealership lot. (I've actually found something to like about this town, after it "tried" to kill my car! jk)

And this morning I was up early enough to wipe down my new wash and wax: the ocean air does like to leave heavy dew all over cars left outside all night. A "neighbor" in the unit to the west was taking his dog to the vet, but saw me and got out and we talked about Stingers. He was already impressed by them. And was quite excited to see one and get to chat up the owner, me. :D

You’ll have to post some pictures of your trip. I just created a community album called Road Trippin’ in the stinger Garage. Yoli and I took a short drive up Little Cottonwood Canyon. Hoping to do a longer trip somewhere fun in the spring.

work and back......detailing it after the storm blows thru tomorrow

Nice idea. Trouble is, once I get here the "trippin'" is behind me and I am, well, here. The only pics I've taken were of my near demise. :P I was too busy driving Tuna Canyon, for instance, to stop and take any pictures.

Just got back from a day at the Daytona Beach Dream Cruise. Lots of interested people with nothing but great comments. They wanted to know everything about the Stinger, some had not seen one yet. My Engine cover came Friday, just in time for the meet. Couple of pictures from the show.
