Well I Finally Did It

Congrats on the new ride! I'm curious, you got the GT2, but it has 18" wheels? I thought the GT/GT1/GT2 are all 19"?

As for the gas, premium is preferred, but you can put regular. It's cheaper of course, but you'll lose some hp by doing that. Besides, the benefits of filling up with premium outweigh the cost.

All models come with option for 18" with all-season tires and lower speed limiter.

What benefit do you get when simply driving around town or cruising on the highway?

For some reason 18" wheels on a GT2 makes me sad...

Well, if that's all you're doing (regular commuting), then no, there's not much benefit there. However when I had my Optima, the horsepower difference between using regular vs premium was at least 10hp less, not to mention rougher idling and the like. Mind you, newer cars' engines are able to adjust timing to a lower octane, but at the cost of efficiency and power. For me anyways, the 30ish cents/gallon of difference between premium and regular (around $4.77 more for a full tank of gas) isn't that bad that I need to downgrade to regular.

Having said that, I'm taking the Stinger on its first long, and mostly highway, roadtrip (roughly 5 hours each way) in a month. I'm going to experiment and put regular and run on ECO then heading out, and premium and run on ECO again heading back. I'm curious what kind of mileage I'll get.

@Stinger Girl - sorry for going OT on your thread. To bring it back to subject, the roadtrip I mentioned above, I'm heading to Cincinnati for my son's Olympic development soccer tourney. Are you from that area of Ohio?

At least they're lighter. Put snow tires on 'em and they're perfect. Get your summer wheels that are stylish and MUCH lighter!

What's lighter going to do for you? Get you a discount at Burger King?

Faster acceleration at least. Less mass to be spun by the driveshaft/halfshafts. Proven. Feel free to do a web search!

Real spoke wheels? That's going to be a maintenance headache.

You all get that it's the worst Photoshop job ever, right? I'd rather burn my car than put wires with spinners on it. :D

Oh, yeah. I keep forgetting to not believe everything I see on the Net. True!

Yep. I live in West Chester, north of Cincinnati.

I'll probably go back and forth with premium vs. regular and see how it feels. At least I know I now can use regular if I want (thank you!). The gas tax in Ohio is going up 10 cents/gallon July 1st. Grrr.

Speaking of snow....this car seems pretty darned low to the ground. So...just how deep does that snow need to be before I can't drive in it?

Up to six inches you're "fine". That is to say, you're not high centering or bottoming out. But plowing through anything more than three or four inches will be slow going regardless.

Good to know, we don't see 6" much around here. My former cars were all Mustangs except one Fusion. Last one was a Bullit - that thing was like a hockey puck even with snow tires. Relying on the AWD with this car for a better experience and no more dragging tires in and out twice a year, I'm getting too old..or lazy....or both :)

True. But I have to deal with snow....

As Kazz said, just get a set of snow tires, and you're good to go. Your all-seasons will last a little longer since you'd be on snow tires for a season.

We're going to be at the Voice of America Soccer Complex, which is only 10 mins away from you. We should meet up at some point that weekend! We'll be there June 28-30.
