Not sure if this is the correct forum to post this under but a couple months back i was back into my garage and clipped my mirror. unfortunately a couple pieces cracked but i was able to tape it all back together. Ever since i've been getting this extremely faint whistle as if my window were open just enough for air to get through. I checked everything, seals, window placement on the track, matched all the seals to those on the passenger side and everything is how it seems. It all started when i hit my mirror. I've been told the mirror could be throwing a different air pattern across my window causing the whistle but i've folded my mirrors in as i was driving and it caused no change. I cannot for the f******* life of my figure out why im getting this whistle. I even tried pulling the window up, down, right, left incase it was somewhat off the track but it's not. It all started when this mirror was damaged but i cannot see how a cracked window assembly can be causing a whistle to the window and im hoping someone can give me some guidance or ideas. Maybe it happened to you. Anything would help. Please help.

Maybe its the plastic surround that holds the mirror assembly to the door. It doesn't move when the mirror is folded in check to see if it moved at all and is protruding at the forward edge.

Check your rocker panel under the car. It just clips in place. Take your hand and hit it. Make sure it's secure. The air can travel up through your B pillar and whistle

Are you saying that when you lower your window the whistle goes away? and when your window is up all the way you hear a whistle?

When i roll down the window i dont hear any whistle because the wind and noise from outside drowns out everything but as soon as i roll it up i hear it. It starts as soon as i go over 30MPH.

Im trying to upload a video but for some reason its not allowing me too. Im going to post a few on youtube and provide links. give me a few

Given that you hit your mirror, it’s most likely the trim that holds the mirror in place as Kodiack described. You can remove the trim around the top of the door (just snaps off) and tighten the nut behind the black panel on the inside, but most likely you bent it.

Alright guys i did my best here. Like i said this is a very faint whistle that begins when i start to go over 30MPH and the fast i go the louder it goes. I uploaded the 3 videos below on youtube, take a listen and tell me what you think. Put your volume all the way up.

It seems like its loudest about halfway down the window on the pillar side. Let me know what you think. Its bugging the SHIT out of me. I've done everything ive could at this point. Inspected the seals. compared them to the passenger side to see if i could notice any faults. taped up the outside and inside of the window to blow any air and f*ckin NOTHING.

Let me know what you guys think....

@Kodiack

I wish i knew which piece you were guys were talking about. Can you provide an image by any chance?

Sorry, i apologize for being such a f*cking pain over something so simple but i feel like ive exhausted ever options.

ive done hours and hours of consemtic and mechanical work to †his car but something as simple as this i cannot solve.

The pillar that the mirror mounts to that attaches it to the door, it has a plastic cover over it.
See if it is damaged or out of shape, it could cause a whistle if its not shaped as intended.

I listened intently. But my bad high frequency hearing is not helpful. I started to hear something like a high tone in the last half of the 3rd video, but nothing in the first two.

My opinion is that the impacted mirror is now pulling air between the parts that move. It's been some years, but there were a couple of discussions about "whistling mirrors" on brand new cars. It doesn't take much to create a whistle, even a poorly assembled mirror evidently can do that. I don't know what your solution is going to be unless a complete mirror replacement. Get one off a dead car because they are wicked expensive new.

Are you referring to the black triangle piece directly above the mirror assembly?

Ill get another video up tomorrow at a higher speed those were on the back roads going about 35-40 so that can be why they ended up hard to hear.

I actually found a used assembly on Ebay just got it in the mail today plan on doing a full replacement. I just hope the whistle isnt still there afterward.

I just realized the mirror doesn't attach on that little triangle at the front of the door. So I doubt the impact caused it, unless you hit that too. just pop off the plastic trim around the window, you'll see the nut. just tighten it a bit, don't overdo it.

Do you know of any videos, etc that show what you're explaining. I understand but id hate to just start goin at the plastic trim and it snap for some reason or i mess it up.

I did get my old mirror assebly off lastnight. About to put the replacement on. Really hoping that stops it. If not, ill start with this.

Thank you!

I replaced my entire mirror assembly and the whistle is still there. It's driving me nuts. i really thought that was going to fix it.

So i ended up replacing the new mirror assembly and the whistle is still happening.

I took 4 more videos at higher speeds I am hoping they are loud enough for you to hear....

I feel like its coming from the bottom left of the window where the door meets the pillar or possibly at the bottom of the window at the center point.

Please let me know what you guys think. Apologies for all the extra noises.

I could hear "wind" at times, but no whistle. Can you hear the whistle listening to your videos? Because if you definitely can, and I can't, that is my ears lacking high pitch acuity.

If the sound is coming from the area near the B pillar that has nothing to do with the plastic panel near the mirror. Try lubricating your door seals. Try taping the edges of that plastic panel near the mirror. Can't think of any other suggestions.

It would stink if you bought a used "whistling mirror." Heh.

edit to add, you could try removing the mirror entirely and taping off the hole. If you hear the whistle without a mirror in place that rules out the mirror.

Oh okay, i gotcha. yeah i can hear it very clearly in each video. i appreciate the advice.

ive done all of your recommendations except the lubrication. I really thought getting rid of the broken mirror assembly and replacing it would do the trick but nope. At this point im taping all the areas it could be coming from and ruling them out one by one.

Hopefully someone else will give them a listen and see if they can tell.
