3.3TT vehicle doesn't shift gear under decent acceleration

i just experienced this problem. holding 5th gear and pressing the paddle like 5 or 6 times before it will shift to 6th. happened a couple times in the span of about a minute. was driving twisty roads and shifting up and down, maybe like 50-75% throttle. I do have jb4 and the pedal tuner. I was wondering if the pedal tuner is tricking the car into thinking I'm at like 90% throttle when I'm really trying to give it say 60% throttle. I turned the pedal tuner back to basically the off position, and that seemed to have an effect, of course I couldn't replicate exactly the conditions where it happened so I can't be sure. Like if the car thinks I want full throttle, but I'm not actually at redline, then it won't shift. Oh I also have a Borla Catback, and it's been on for just a couple weeks, but that can't have anything to do with it??
Your exhaust has nothing to do with it. Try it again in sport mode on full manual. It won’t do it at that point. It’s gotta be some type of safety built in when you don’t want absolute complete control

I was in sport and in manual shifting. weird. I will try it again sometime soon and report back with any findings one way or another.

It has happened to me all the time, including when ESC is completely off and should be in completely manual. At the end of the day the transmission is a Kia not a Porsche PDK and meant to last a 7 / 10 year warranty. It has alot of built in safety so honestly I've discovered that for any kind of sporty shifting, the automatic gearbox works by far the best.

Any update on this issue? I bought my 2020 Kia GT1 last year and started experiencing the same problem.

I never really spent any time trying to figure this out. It still happens sometimes, but most of the time it's fine. It's like it just doesn't want to shift sometimes. It may be that the car knows the conditions are not right for whatever gear you are trying to go into. kind of tough to create the issue on demand.

I've found that the car "takes over" when I have manual gate engaged and using the paddles. If I am a tad slow to shift under WOT or close to it, the car will upshift without permission. The reverse is true as well: if you upshift at a point in RPM climb the car will ignore you and keep raising RPM. I don't think there is anything wrong, other than my driving demands not jiving with what "NAV" (the name of my car) thinks is best. :P

I'm pretty sure this is a condition in sport mode. I notice it only when coming out of a corner. The car will hold the lower gear to help you accelerate out of a corner rather than upshift halfway thru the curve, although it does hold that lower gear just a bit too long sometimes for my liking. It's never done this for me in a straight line.

A TCU tune will fix this "quirk". Don't want auto upshift in manual mode? Done. Want to be able to downshift into 7k rpm for some reason? Done. Want faster shifts? Done.

Who’s TCU did you go with?

Isn't a TCU verboten to the warranty? Bolt-ons/piggybacks don't have to go into the shop, but a TCU is not invisible. If anything in your drivetrain goes south, you're stuck paying for it.

Most of us that mod are long past worrying about warranty not paying for what we break. Ya pay to play and do it with a smile! Now more importantly how’s your CF additions coming along?

^^I am not a convert to CF. The license plate frame is enough. :P

I went with a Tork stage 2. The 2-1 shifts are a lot less crazy than the others.
Did you send him your unit or did you find a replacement TCU. Thx

I have this same problem with my 18 3.3 gt2 was showing a infinity who was boss on the highway down shift from 7 to 5 with paddles all traction controls off and the car stuck in 5th usually it rights itself like all the previous posters but this time it didn't stayed in 5th over 2 miles till next off ramp even at the light on the off ramp it was still in 5th not till I was able to get pulled over in a safe location turn off the car and turn back on did it shift normally. I did note that my Trans temp was at 210 and it took quite some time before it started coming back down to normal I have always been good to my car best oils and Trans fluids 15 dollar a quart amsoil same with Trans always amsoil.

^^^Welcome. How did you know the temperature of the transmission fluid? It sounds like your experience is quite a bit different than any other on this thread. To be stuck in 5th gear even at a stop light? How did you get moving again: car will not move from a standstill in 5th gear!? (unless I'm misinterpreting what you said)

Pretty sure he is referring to the oil temp gauge in the dash

No it was the transmission temp reading from a logger that I had in the obd2 port. Engine Oil temp was at 200. It will actually get going in 5th gear doesn't like it but it had enough power. This actually happened again yesterday same gear but it corrected itself like all other posters in this thread. I have actually had nothing but problems with this car I'm on my third engine and it is in need of another. Compression on all cylinders is at 150 and kgis says 178 is normal they already replaced an engine for compression and now say that the tech and techline think that the info in kgis is wrong......
