Used Stinger GT Market Info

Any one see the likely hood of GT1 18' hitting around $22-$25 any time soon? I could of sworn a few weeks ago I saw some hanging around that price range, but now all I see is $29k+

I haven’t even seen GT’s close to that price yet. Upper $20’s is about as good as it has gotten.

I might know the one you were talking about, though. Was the picture taken inside of a large shop/garage? One was for sale with a rebuilt title for somewhere under $25k, which I would avoid.

Yea, I think I saw a handful with posting like that. Didn't look into them since I wasn't ready to buy at the time, but makes sense.

Most of the used inventory has inexplicably dried up but if I had to wager a guess, dougs video had something to do with it. I don’t want to give him THAT much credit but the used prices have gone up in the last 2 months.

You're right. I just started looking into Stingers the past few months. At first, I saw a decent amount of options and some respectable prices popping up. Now they're flying off the lot and prices aren't budging much. One day I'll spot a decent configuration and price, then less than a week later it's gone.

Overall, the GTs used resale value continues to trend oddly high. One "Kia" prediction that hasn't seemed to bear fruit, especially considering the incentives/OTD prices many paid. These cars seem to be depreciating consistent with mileage and damage, not age or disrepute.

I agree. And the relative price for the arguably better vehicle, the G70 3.3, seems to be dropping. I picked up a low mile, great shape Elite G70 3.3 on Monday for 31k. That car was 46k MSRP one year ago. I see Stinger GT-nulls sell for 32500 with 30k on the clock all day, lately. When you can find them.

Sold my 18 Premium Snow White Pearl for 22,4. 28k miles. I was the second owner. I expect it to be listed for 24-26.

This update to average prices is very interesting.

You may have heard about higher demand and lower inventory in the used market.

It definitely has been leading to higher asking prices on Stingers.

The occasional low-priced car shows up which follows the expected depreciation curve, as seen in the "lowest price" graph below. These are always from small used car dealers. Perhaps they managed to buy from someone who didn't get the memo and so they're able to sell low.

As for average prices, what we would be seeing if not for covid is around $29k for a GT, $31k for a GT1, and $34k for a GT2. We're actually about $2k higher than that on the GT & GT1 and $3k on the GT2.

yep definitely confirms what I’ve been seeing but any explanation for the uptick in demand? I mean the car has been out there for 3 years. I’d have expected more off lease vehicles to be out there by now. Honestly it has me considering the G80 sport a bit more but I’m still in love with the stinger. COVID has me about a year behind my target acquisition date but hoping to get on board soon

any explanation for the uptick in demand?

I think a combination of things: reduced new inventory at dealerships and not as good of deals to be had on them may cause some buyers to shop used instead of new; pent up demand from many dealerships being closed earlier in the year; those still working may be in a better financial situation due to stimulus and lower expenses over the last few months.

Coming in hot here so forgive me for my first post being one made in frustration - but what the hell is causing this huge demand in used Stingers all of a sudden?

I've been biding my time, watching the used market on the GT2s slowly trend downward. Saw a bunch in the Philadelphia area in the 35-40k range only a few weeks ago. Two weeks ago I unfortunately lost my car in a flood here in Philly (RIP G37) and am looking to move forward on a Stinger like..immediately.. and simply cannot find one on a lot anywhere around me.

Dealerships tell me they've been "flying off the shelves" recently (used AND new!) and that they probably wouldn't be able to locate me a clean GT2 for less than 45k. 45k for a 2018!! I thought these things weren't selling at all..

Congrats to ya'll that got one before the demand surged up.

Someone say g37? IMG_20200609_185355.webpas for the demand, it really has picked up. Saw a white new gt2 at the DMV and the guy said he picked it up for 48k

Check Carmax also. They get them but also sell pretty quickly.

Too soon! Haha I had a '12 Sedan with about 130k on the dash - babied it from the get-go and it had plenty of life left, I think. But maybe mother nature did me a favor and it had some expensive fix on the horizon, who knows. What I DO know is that I put new brake pads, rotors and tires on the car about a month before the flood.

But yeah, your experience with that guy seems to match what I'm experiencing here.

I've kept an eye on both Carmax and Carvana and they are honestly gone within 24 hours of posting. Craziness.

I am not certain why the demand has increased so dramatically. However, the Stinger has had some of its best new car sales months over the last few months. Plus Upper trim level Tellurides are impossible to come by so at least some people have “settled” for Stingers.

Then there is always the Doug Demuro Affect. The fact that he publicly announced that he bought a Stinger was a big deal. He has millions of followers. Now that doesn’t mean those followers are the ones that went out and bought Stingers. However, it is likely that they probably changed their opinion of the Stinger somewhat after the video went live.

Since I switched my car to the Genesis G70 wheels I literally cannot drive it anywhere without people stopping to ask me what the car is. They are stunned every single time when I tell them it is a Kia.

I spend more time talking about the car with people than driving it now since I work from home.

Honestly, this car is just simply a head turner.

I had been thinking about the car for a bit. As soon as Doug posted, I came back to this forum for more insight and stumbled across the lease buyout deal. That's what sealed it for me, but Doug certainly gave me a nudge to think about it again.

Glad I got one before it all got sticky!

My neighbor asked me, "How do you like your Maserati?" LOL! When I told him it's a Kia Stinger, he was like, "Huh? Get out of town!"

It's not just Stingers that are seeing inflated prices. Used cars in general are higher than normal right now. Dealerships just don't have as many cars on their lot right now due to factories shutting down during the pandemic.
So people in need of cars are looking towards used when they can't find the new car they want.
Hopefully it evens out sooner or later r/askcarsales says to buy now because it's going to get worse while r/whatcarshouldibuy says that it should return to normal next year. I'd rather believe the non salesmen, lol.
