US pricing?

I'm looking at the 2.0T. Local dealers really don't have much. However, today one from Syracuse, NY finally called me back with a range. Starting price will be about $32,000 with loaded at $42,000. It was the best news I've had in awhile. It means I will definitely be able to afford at least a base model.

East Syracuse and I'm over closer to Utica, but out that way a lot.

When it goes on sale in December, the 2018 Kia Stinger will cost $32,795 to start, including destination, the automaker announced Tuesday. That's for a base model powered by a turbo-4 that makes 255 horsepower.

Models equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 making 365 hp will start at $39,895, again including destination. Rear-drive is standard on all models and all-wheel drive is available for $2,200.

Kia said a fully loaded, all-wheel-drive Kia Stinger will cost around $51,000, but added that full pricing details will arrive next month.


The Kia Stinger will be offered in base, Premium, GT, GT1, and GT2 trim levels with escalating features. Base and Premium versions will be powered by the turbo-4, while the GT versions are V-6-only affairs. GT models will be equipped with the automaker's first electronically adjustable suspension system, partly developed by former BMW M division chief engineer Albert Biermannat Kia's engineering center in Germany.

According to Kia, the V-6-powered Stinger will be able to reach 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, en route to a top speed of 167 mph.

Base versions of the Stinger will have 18-inch wheels, a six-speaker audio system, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment. Top-trim versions will sport 19-inch wheels wrapped in performance rubber, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, and a 15-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system that includes subwoofers underneath the front seats.

Entry pricing for the Stinger undercuts rivals that include the BMW 3-Series and Cadillac ATS by roughly $3,000.

Disappointing, for sure. We'll have to wait to see what is included in the trim levels (GT, GT1, and GT2) to see if there is value.

Totally agree. I can get a fully loaded Jag XE r-sport for 58. That's a whole ton of "extra stuff" for only 6 grand more. I don't see them selling a while lot of fully loaded gt's at that price.
 
But what's the initial allotment going to be? Mostly fully loaded Stingers that early adopters will want to buy, no matter what?
 
Do you think those are U.S. or Canadian prices?
The website operators are California-based, so presumably U.S. pricing (if there's any validity to it).

Hmm.. . $51k for a fully loaded Stinger sounds a little higher than "under $50k" to me... Not a tremendously big deal but Kia did say under $50,000...
$51K was the top-end in one of the pricing-related surveys, so I've always been expecting "$50K and change."
 
So what happened to the "GT Line" trim? Is that still a thing? (Looks like a GT, but has a turbo-4 under the hood)

Update: A Kia spokesperson responded with the 2018 Kia Stinger’s official pricing:
  • $31,900 for base Stinger 2.0T
  • $37,000 for Stinger Premium 2.0T
  • $39,000 for GT 3.3 T
  • $43,500 for GT1 3.3T
  • $49,500 for GT2 3.3 T
  • AWD $2,200 for all models
  • Destination $895
The person noted that these are estimates and could change before the car goes on sale in December.
 
A GT2 with AWD would be $51,700 - which is a bit too close to S5 Sportback territory for me.

$52,595 with destination fee. Then we haven't even thrown taxes in... I just don't think this car can enter the market like that and expect to be successful. I'm starting to think that they are planning on mostly just selling the 2.0Ts... I'd be surprised if there was any more than one GT2 at each dealer, tops

As long as I could order it with all the tech I want, I think a Premium 2.0T with AWD would be a pretty good car for the price.

Then again, I'm in a "mature" demographic. I don't see any need for more than 255 horsepower no matter how heavy the car is. I won't be tracking it or racing it or modding it, so as long as it has enough power to get out of its own way and offers a boatload of neat gadgets, I'd be a happy camper if I could get one for the low $40Ks.

YMMV, of course.

That's MSRP. You can get $3k - $4k off an A5/S5, but I don't think Kia will give any discounts, at least initially. The important point here is that at $50k+, the Stinger is entering into a different, and possibly more compelling, class of cars at that price point.

I priced out an S5 recently, only putting on features I could get on the Stinger, and it was well over $60K--but of course, unlike the Stinger, I could probably deal that down. Then I remembered two of my mechanics, a close friend, and a longtime acquaintance who, upon hearing I was looking for a car, all said "Whatever you do, don't buy an Audi!" All had nightmare stories to tell. That's 4 of the 5 people I know who've owned Audis; not a good ratio for a car with such a good rep. Besides, I don't have a convenient Audi dealer for service, so I'm still in for the Stinger, even at $49,500.

I'm going to the Orange County Auto Show later this week, so I'll look at Kia and Audi, and the Buick Regal GS, and Genesis (despite the lack of hatch). But I'm pretty sure it's going to be the Stinger.
