Does anyone know if the upcoming 3G shutdown affects the Stingers?

For either the UVO app or the rear view mirror mounted communication stuff?

It's my understanding the current stingers use lte technology so those should be unaffected.

Does your 2018 show a 3g or lte connection?

Do you mean in the absence of a Bluetooth connected or wired android auto connected phone?

I thought you were referring to UVO.. Doesn't UVO communicate with the mothership using cellular tech? Your uvo app on the phone communicates with the mothership using whatever data connection is available (wifi, cellular, etc).

True but I don't know much about the mothership to car connection.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Doesn't the headunit display the connection type in the top or top right corner?

'22 uses LTE cellular. As far as I know it does not have WiFi.

^^There was some discussion a while back suggesting the hardware is capable of supporting wifi but not enabled.

Did the pre '22 models use lte too or 3g?

LTE

I know, on my 2018 - original software - it used to say 3G in the upper right corner (that doesn't mean it doesn't support LTE)

But it no longer says 3G - anywhere
I think this was Nov 5th 2019

but nowadays - just shows UVO - with signal bars.

^^I wonder if there's some diagnostic mode that will show actual connection parameters. IE lte, what band, signal strength, tower id, etc. ?

If not, I suppose once att sunsets 3g entirely you'll know for sure...

Canadian stingers don't roam in the US. The 3g shutdown doesn't affect us until at least 2025. And even then I'm pretty sure our cars are LTE.

Yes, but it would still be nice to know.

So I jumped in to engineering mode to check. Looks like the software is for an MDM6200 which is a Qualcomm IC that only supports 3g. Hope I'm wrong but this could get interesting in 2025. My car is a '21.

Thanks for sharing.

I don't know enough to speak with confidence on this, but it looks like the MDM6200, supports HSPA+ (which is 4G)

HSPA (High Speed Packet Access, or 3G) is a mobile network technology that offers data speeds up to 21 Mbps. HSPA+ (also called Evolved HSPA, or 4G) is a further evolution of HSPA that offers data speeds up to 42 Mbps.

Hspa is still a form of 3g which is something att/tmo will be shutting down. Lte is the dominant technology until 5g (or what ever comes next) fully replaces it.

Nobody likes the bringer of bad news!

Depends how you look at it. With no 3g/data connection the car can't report back to the mothership, nor can the mothership spy on you.

I'm guessing Android Auto would still work but not remote start? That would suck.
