Trim looks like crap

I was planning on having my replaced under warranty before the body portion expired. Car has been at the body shop getting repaired and some of that trim got hailed on. They replaced one piece but it came from Kia dented they claimed. All the other pieces are on order, 2-4 weeks they claimed.

Noticed spotting on mine started a few months ago. Tried a few polishes and cleaners. The polish helped a bit but the spots/stains are still present. Wasn't sure if it was worth getting Kia involved, I doubt the replacements will last much longer in the extreme heat here. There was definitely a correlation between the side that saw the most sun being the most 'damaged', but that's anecdotal since it could just be a 50/50 odds thing (not related to the sun/heat at all).

just get the window visors and be done with it. they are less than $50 on amazon. I have them, they are decent. pretty sleek looking. they do scratch easily so try not to touch them too much, just light microfiber to dry them.

I also spray painted the two pieces along the trunk hatch in gloss black. not perfect, but they just blend in now.

I feel like those things look dated to me and not in a good way. They have a 90s vibe to them. I had em on my 97 gtp. As bad as the trim looks I'd probably either go the route of having them replaced, wrapped or sprayed gloss black. Just not a huge fan of those vent visors anymore, especially on a car like the Stinger. That's just me though.

I hear you, to each his own. I would agree somewhat, but it was so much better than the trim it was worth it. also, it is almost flush with the car, not like the old days when it stuck out a couple inches.

I didn't know they made the visors to be more flush now. I just remember how they were back in the day. Looks good on your car, especially with the dark tint.

So far I only seem to have this on the trim pieces along the back. For now, it's not too bad but this is also my first summer with the car. Took one of the pieces off to work on it with some polish. Definitely appears to be a clear coat on top. Once I've polished that away you can definitely feel a difference between where the clear coat is, and isn't. Have a feeling it'll take quite a bit of work but honestly I think it'll be better/easier to manage once the clear coat is gone as it seems (at least for me) the discoloration is occurring between the metal and the clear coat.

Or I'll just wrap them and be done. Who knows.

Switched things up a bit and wet sanding them. Using polish/compound takes forever and is a ton of work. Probably days. Wet sanding, followed up with a good polishing, then a wax. So far almost done with the first half and it already looks way better. If several months down the road (with proper care in between) they start looking like crap again, I'll wrap them.

My window trim looks pretty bad too. I’m looking to wrap it, and I feel like if I have to wrap the window trim, I need to wrap all the chrome so it will match. Anyone that’s had it done know how much that might run me?

I polished mine with Autosol Metal polish and then applied a coat of Adam's Graphene Ceramic Spray. Holding up well so far.

Mine looks like crap I think it has a clear coat on it that's coming off I used a Mr clean scrub pad on one piece and it cleaned up really nice took off whatever was on top

Yeah it's kinda weird. The parts that were starting to look like crap on mine, didn't matter how much polishing I did....until I wore through the clear coat on top. After that it got to the metal and it polished right up. So it seems whatever is happening to discolor, happens between the metal and the coating on top. That's why I just decided to wet sand all of it.

Sorry, I don't have time to read 11 pages today (recovering from covid, family medical issues, etc). Any discussion about the rear-roof trim pieces (the ~foot-long < 1 inch wide pieces on either side of the rear part of the roof)? Mine are cracked. Are they easy to wrap / plasti-dip? I've never tried either - which would be a better bet?

Would rather NOT take the car to Kia, remove all the mods, etc, just for a some cracked trim.

Assume that you are referring to the drip rails that are the same color as the car: they go all "snake skin" in worst case scenarios. @rocket23 removed his and used a wire brush wheel to strip his down to the bare metal, polished them and put a clear coat to seal them. In pics they look really good (even though he no longer has the car, the pics remain). He's the only one to do that. Others have wrapped them (the shop I queried said "no" to that, because to do it properly would require wrapping to the rubber strips running along each side of the pieces, and that would expose the edges and the wrap would start to look like crap in half a year give or take: and to get the edges of the wrap under the rubber strips would be time intensive, and you should just buy new at that point): others have sprayed theirs. Some have bought new. It would do zero good taking this to Kia, as you are way beyond the 36 months warranty.

I took my car to the dealership, they ordered up a new set. Car only has 14k on it. I'm curious, have people that have had them replaced had issues as well?

Ill throw my name into the hat for crap looking drip rails. I haven't done anything yet due to the fact that Im not sure if im going to wrap the roof or not. I may white CF wrap them just because i have it laying around. Cars white so it will just be an "oh shit look at that" type thing among car people. If i do it ill holler at you @turboAWD and let you know how it goes

The trim down both sides has started to look like crap....there was slight discoloration in a couple spots when I purchased it about 6 weeks ago.....I pay for 6 months at a time for unlimited car washes at a car wash company that has multiple locations that does touch the car, after every car wash the trim hadn’t really changed much but could tell it was getting worse...then I went to a touch less car wash and after the wash my trim basically looked like this....I’ve read about some people compounding it and using other products on it but looks like I’m just gonna have the guy who does all the work on my car wrap it gloss black and be done with it!!!
same thing happened to me.

For an extremely hefty fee, apparently you can get these pieces in real carbon fiber.

Cool if you have a carbon fiber theme going or if you have a gts but for a DD like mine, I couldn't do it.
