Top speed limiter removal

looks like i have the staggered 19in rims. I guess there is always a chance that the prior owner could've switched the tires too but likely not? it's also RWD and not AWD
in 2018, the 'awd package' included '18" all-season tires available separately w/reduced top speed', that is a direct quote from the promo book. your rwd, so none of that applies, and with 19" wheels I'd say that guarantees you have a 167 mph top speed. as long as you know that the original tires were not some a/s set you can tell everyone that your stinger will top out above 167 mph. other than that, you'll just have to get on a long straight road with no traffic and push it and see for yourself.

lol.. so what is the remote chance of my GT2 actually were specced with A/S tires originally and the PO just decided to swap out for the 19in rims? ;)

let me simply say that I have not heard of a gt rwd with 18" wheels as oem.

Ah, then the 2019 AWD with A/S tires had a 130 MPH limit set. Must be it. Right about then, the 2020 trims were coming out and that would have been when I was seeing conversations about "No, the limiter is at 140, not 130": and I recall someone even linking to the Kia specs page showing the 140 limit with AWD equipped with A/S tires.
I read this in my manual of my 2020 GT AWD , I was surprised when I tried it out and it didn’t stop until I did at 154.

so AWD CAN come with the staggered 19' non A/S tires?
did you mean 'on' a/s tires, or 'non a/s tires' as in summer tires? my gt1 oem wheels and tires are 19" michelin ps4 and it is awd. I want to know if @David Mullenix has 18s or 19s for starters. if he has 18s the mystery deepens, especially if he is the original owner and his car has oem 18s. I've never heard of such pushing into 150 plus mph. if he is not the original owner, then his 18s could be replacements for staggered so that the wheels could be rotated. it's obvious that his car has the 167 mph speed limiter, at the very least, by which I mean that an original owner could have eliminated the speed limiter altogether.

Original owner, no modifications. I thought the A/S tire cars were all governed at 139 from what I remember reading in the manual. I traded it last weekend for a 19’ GT2

19” with A/S Primacy Tour

It isn't the a/s versus summer tires that determine the speed limiter setting per se. if the wheels are 18" they are on an awd model with a/s tires, and get the lowered top speed. awd with 19s get summer or higher speed rated a/s tires like the michelin, which I believe also come on the stinger as ps a/s4. do you happen to know if the speed ratings differ between the primacy tour and ps a/s4? in any case, they are over 167 mpg rated, at least 'w' or 'zr', which is why kia didn't put a lower speed limiter on your car.

wth?!
surely that was never oem on a stinger.
R106 mph170 km/hH.D. Light Truck Tires
They are but I looked up the ratings, while they’re R rated the 96w actually means they’re rated up to 168, kinda confusing but makes sense now.

So I’m only looking to do this once. If I want a tune and the speed limiter removed, do I get a tuned ECU or a JB4? I thought I understood but the more I read the less I realize I do

My question is what is really the true air drag speed limit of the stinger GT2 (i do understand that air drag limits can vary with different days and weather conditions, etc)?

is 168mph the true air drag speed limit or is that just another higher limit set on a stinger with the higher spec 19in wheels?

167 MPH limit on the 3.3L Stinger is an artificial limit. Air drag would be much higher. What exactly has never been determined. If 168 MPH were the "true air drag speed limit", the Stinger would crawl and claw to reach it. Instead, those who have pushed the speed limiter have experienced, easily, 167 plus, then the engine won't give you anymore.

Evidence here -- still pulling strong. Now I'm curious about both stock and reasonably tuned (450-500hp) Stingers. Motor Trend lists top gear revs at 60mph as 1500 which seems high (maybe it was in Sport/7th gear?), but that still implies it wouldn't run out of gears until the 250mph range, so it's definitely power/aero limited.

I mean it still pulling somewhat but i don't know if it's pulling "strong" . At 3:06 of that video, it hit 271km/h but very slow. I could imagine at most 280km/h but likely not more given how slow it was hitting it and the fact that air drag is proportional to v square.

The other problem that would prevent the stinger from going much higher is also the fact that the engine is not made to develop high power at higher rpm. From the power curve i've seen (unless i pulled up the wrong curve), stinger max power happens at 4-5k rpm. And looking at that video, 271km/h was reached at like 4.7k rpm so you are really getting less power from this point on when you try to go faster....
