TheStraightPipes - Genesis G70 review is up

A great review although they fail to mention the Stinger is a lot bigger than the G70. The G70 is more comparable to a 3-series in size.

Yeah they didnt mention it specifically but Jakob did note that the back seat legroom was not as good and that the trunk space wasn't great, both of which are much better in the Stinger. I'm so torn. Love the looks of the Stinger more but the G70 apparently drives *even* better which is amazing and the fit and finish of the interior is a step up.

If I hadn't gotten my Stinger yet and had to choose between the two, I'd go with the Stinger still based on size. My 3-series was just too small.

I would guess the majority of people on the forum are here because they prefer the Stinger over the rest in one way or another.

I think the G70 will be an amazing car for owners with no kids.

Sure, it looks a lot like a Sonata and is the size of a Corolla...but it's also fast and has a great interior. $500 will have the G70 doing 0-60 in under 4 seconds and running low 12s. You also get the perks that come with buying a Genesis.

The interior on the G70 is amazing. I would love to have the quilted interior on my Stinger. I prefer the looks of the Stinger over the G70, but I also didn’t know about the G70 until after we got our Stinger.

These 2 cars were on my radar as they were very comparative. Specs and price range pretty much identical. But it came down to size and convenience for me - more rear space and sportback trunk.

Quilted interior with color contrast stitch looks amazing. Suede headliner and 360 cam as well. Other than that, ill take the Stinger based on looks alone. The bolsters firming up with sport mode is a cool feature also.

I am looking forward to seeing, driving this in person however. I am very curious on use of hard plastics on the interior as well as quality of the underbody components.

Yeah I like the look of the dash and center console better on the Stinger but overall the Genesis interior feels more premium. I think a lot of that has to do with the seats and the details on the doors.

I wouldn't say it looks anymore like the Sonata than the Stinger looks like the Optima, there are brand similarities but both have a longer hood and much more aggressive look to those competitors, plus the difference is really the handling and what is under the hood... that's why both cars are so good compared to an Accord/Camry or Civic/Sonata.

I agree on the size though... will probably be a deal breaker just because rear legroom is key if you have a family. If I could get a way with little to no rear legroom I'd get a true sports car and just ditch the rear seats altogether.

I am not sure about the fact that it drives much better. Not one reviewer shown that much enthousiasm about it in Korea (and it was reviewed by a bunch of people, including pro racers). They usually say it feels a little bit more nimble due to the shorter wheel base, but thats about it.
The back seat is also much worse than they show on the video.
Anyway, cool review nonetheless.

While these 2 carry the same powertrain, they were designed for different duties. The G70 is competing with the A4/3 Series crowd, the Stinger is more along the lines of the A7/6 Grand Coupe, while not directly targeting them, they do compare in size and performance. Of course KIA says A5/4 GC on price but they did throw it up against the Porsche and 6 GC in official testing. The lighter G70 is certainly going to be more nimble, that’s what it was designed for, sporty compact sedan duties. Stinger gets GT tuning, they could make it better but that all depends on how much is sold and if the demand for more is there, along with folks willing to pony up for it.

As more people get into this car, they will realize how good it is more folks will by them. Genesis has to grow as well so adding the G70 gets a lot of folks in at a lower price point, which will end up being the bulk of their sales to pull others to the larger vehicles.

They did mention at the beginning that it's lighter than the Stinger.

And i love that white interior. Wish the stinger had that as an option.

However, the hatch was a must for me, so the Stinger was an automatic win. I like the sportback body shape better, too.

Lastly, the biggest issue: price. For the price of the 2.0L G70, i bought a 3.3TT Stinger. The price of the 3.3 G70 may have sent me to BMW instead.

I can definitely understand why people would choose the G70 (especially the 2.0 manual) but the Stinger just fits my wants and needs so perfectly.

whatever the reviewers say - STINGER ALL THE WAY! STINGERS FOR THE WIN! :p

Not feeling it from a design standpoint although the interior is pretty darn nice. The stinger design appeals to me more along w/ the size and rear hatch. More practical for my needs while still being fast and fun

They had a lot less bad things to say about the Stinger so I thought the stinger won in this case. It’s ugly anyway would not touch it.

I’m not going to lie the G70 is growing on me and I am envious of some features my GT2 is missing, but I wouldn’t trade my Stinger for it either way.

I wish mine had the quilted leather(like my SXL did), colored stitching, 360 camera, and wireless phone charger, but I don’t like generic and Elantra like styling, the asymmetrical centerstack trim, unmatched Aluminium trim, and especially the small rear seat & trunk room.

This is a great alternative to a BMW 1-3 series, Infiniti Q50 or Alpha Giulia, but our passenger and cargo volume is closer to Porsche Panamera & Audi A7. One big reason I went with the Stinger over those others was because of the extra space. Also the looks of the Stinger alone kills all 4 IMHO.

But either way it was a great review and the G70 is a very nice revision of our Stinger.

We also don't know for sure the wireless charging and the 360 cam will come in the G70 in America. They're reviewing a Canadian version.
