TheStraightPipes - Genesis G70 review is up

Well, until it's actually out and available to test drive in the US....I'm still waiting and stuck between an Alfa, Stinger or the G70.

of course it's going to drive better than the stinger. It has a shorter wheel base and its lighter too, couple that with the power train and suspension from the CK8 that's what you get.

I agree that the options and features available are more than on a Stinger, but keep in mind this car is aiming to compete with a different class. Also we still have to wait and find out what options and fetures will be removed for the US version. :(

The reason why they advertise their online purchase and valet delivery is because their only dealerships are hyundai dealerships. :D

Even though they are 99% the same cars, it is true that the competition is different.
The Stinger is a cheap version of very expensive cars (6series, A7, panamera...), and the G70 is a equally priced alternative of small size luxury cars (3 series, c class...) with more luxury/performance for the money.

Hyundai dealerships don't sell Genesis cars in Canada. Genesis is purely through their online store.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

thats percisely why genesis has to sell their cars the way they are selling. cant sell genesis off hyundai dealers and probably too expensive and time consuming to establish their own network of dealerships.

The G70 was on my list but I like how the Stinger looks a lot more and the price that came with it, actually I really liked the Stinger since it was a concept back in 2011. I didn’t think they would make a production version back then but, fast forward and here I am getting ready to go wash my Stinger. Maybe KIA will make that GT4 or a two door Stinger one day ;)

They just opened a store at the new airport mall here in a Edmonton.

I've been shopping between the G70 and the Stinger. Not a deal breaker, but the fact that the Stinger has ambient lighting and G70 does not, point to the Stinger. Also many have come out with tunes and performance accessories already for the Stinger, which means the public is really adopting the idea that Kia is not only acceptable but for real when it comes to performance, time will tell on reliability - especially with tuned models. Personal-wise I have kids and we'll need the extra space, comfort, and utility. I do like the auto bolster tightening on the G70 but I can forgo that if I can save $7500 CAD and still get more room and utility. And that exterior looks though! It's already the best option for me. Now if Kia just either take away the hood vents or make them functional hopefully in the next 2 years and come with sport exhausts right out of factory, it'll be perfect!

Preach on brother, on a side note the G70 does have ambient lightning.

Does it? I based my info off of this video but this could be any other market outside Canada so it could be different and granted I didnt do any due diligence. Now that I watch it again, he did say "not much else for ambient lighting"

It seems what I was looking at was the Korean model, now the thing is, does the Canadian version get it.

The korean model does not have ambient lighting.
And the thing is, if the korean model doesnt have it, like the Stinger, it means that the interior hasnt been designed having in thought a nice integration of ambient lighting. If you want nice ambient lighting you need to create lines with panels that overlap each other and create room to place LEDs underneath. So even if they add it for oversea version, it will most likely look like an aftertought with a little light here and there but it will be miles away from the nice integration you get in recent mercedes / bmw / audi.

BTW, In the video above, the light in the footwell is the thing that all cars get when you're in P mode.

I was on the G70 forum and someone was talking about it, and it was the Korean model. Anyways if it doesn’t have it that’s weird, cause it plays with the “big boys”.

Like that the G70 is lighter but overall the Stinger looks better to me. But I may be able to talk the wife into a G70 as her car.

It is only about 80Kg lighter.
That is like having a passenger vs no passenger.
Or sunroof vs no sunroof.
Or awd vs rwd. (if I recall correctly)

______________________________
AWD definitely adds more than 80Kg
Official spec:
3.3 RWD 1785Kg (3935lbs)
3.3 AWD 1855Kg (4090lbs)
=> 70Kg diff. (154lbs)
download (55).webp

For extra reference, G70 spec:
3.3 RWD 1705Kg (3759lbs)
3.3 AWD 1775Kg (3913lbs)
=> 70Kg diff. (154lbs)
download (56).webp
Stinger vs. G70 => 80Kg diff. (176lbs)

In order of weight:
1) 2.0 RWD G70 1630Kg
2) 2.0 RWD Stinger 1670Kg (+40)
3) 2.0 AWD G70 1695Kg (+65)
4) 3.3 RWD G70 1705Kg (+75)
5) 2.0 AWD Stinger 1740Kg (+110)
6) 3.3 AWD G70 1775Kg (+145)
7) 3.3 RWD Stinger 1785Kg (+155)
8) 3.3 AWD Stinger 1855Kg (+225)

Can you actually order a car there, or is it just a popup shop to showcase the cars, similar to Tesla or the Stinger ones?

Went to the new airport outlet mall here in Edmonton last night, checked out the G70 every nice ride ride. Love the diamond stitched seats and the interior in general but, it doesn’t stand out from the crowds. It did confirmed that the Stinger was the better buy for me, and I did asked about the ambient lighting, it doesn’t have any.
