The New Supra

It's like they took the concept and squished it down to make it Miata sized

FWIW, the Miata is 154" long. The new Supra is 172", MK4 supra is only 6" longer at 178". The new Supra is 5" longer than the 370z.

The FT1 concept was 184 inches, pretty amazing how just 12" made the production car look so damn squished.

saw another stat I had missed that makes me hate this car even more. It's wheelbase is only 97", an MX-5 has a wheelbase of 89". Now here's a swift kick in the you know what, the FT86 has a wheelbase of 101" and a Mustang GT has a wheelbase of 107".

Just want to leave these here...

Ugh can we get over the 'pop & crackle' exhaust fad already? I do like how the engine sounds though, aside from the crackling.

I think the front end is terrible, the rest is not bad. What is really interesting is the inside and all the electronics are 100% BMW (we all know the engines are). When I saw a video that toured the inside of the car, I thought it was a video of the new 3 series. The controls, graphics, everything.

I like it. It sounds really good from the interior as well (unless this is synthetic engine/exhaust noise).

the new BMWs sound great, have you heard the new M340I? I wish we could figure out a way to get our exhausts to sound that good.

I have no issue with the new Supra as a standalone car. While I think it's hideous, everything else looks solid for a little two seater coupe and I'm sure it's going to be a great car to drive. If this was the next generation of a car like the 370z, or even a new front engine MR2, I would give it a big thumbs up. That was never what a Supra was though. For it's time, it's always been the Japanese answer to the American muscle car. Big, heavy, and fast. That's a car that Japan just doesn't make anymore, where's our Japanese Mustang/Camaro/Charger? What happened to the 300ZXs, Supras, and 3000gts? That's part of the reason I bought a Stinger, big, heavy, and fast, it really is very similar to a four door muscle car/

I guess Toyota doesn't want to make a real full size sports car anymore, I mean hey, their new Camry is so sporty right, so what's the point?

Yep, so that's another car I wouldn't keep past warranty. Although Toyota Australia did just increase their warranty to 5 years.
I definitely don't like the fact that it's so short, they already have a short sports car in the 86,if your going to make another just save your money Toyota and give people what they have actually been asking for since the day it came out. Turbo!
They don't even have to engineer anything, it's a wrx motor also.
Makes me think they deliberately haven't turbod the 86 because of this supra..

................it would be a blast to drive this car , its not for me , but I respect what it is and for who might buy it

exactly, it doesn't make ANY sense that the Supra's wheelbase is SHORTER than the 86.

This is not a Supra, it never was. What it truly is, is a Z4 or Z5, whatever the new coupe from BMW is called. Toyota clearly didn't want to invest any kind of R&D funds on this new car. All they did was tell BMW they had a shell to bolt on to their platform and let them (BMW) do all the R&D (obviously splitting the cost)

This car has nothing from the A80, not even the signature driver oriented cockpit. This car is more BMW than anything else, and I don't mean that in a good way.

It's not really what i hoped for... to me it should have been the overpowerd GT86 to begin with. Every one said the GT86 is a great car but not enough power what so ever.
so I hoped they go and challage the GTR again like they used to. make the GT86 bigger and put like 400-450hp in it with damn good handling.
An other thing I think it's only available with Automatic... WTF. that means It becomes next to useles to motorsports.

The design is ok-ish. For me, the Roof line is way to high. It's like, the car is low and sporty but the angle of the windscreen is stuck in the 90's so the Roof is way to high. Lengthen the car woud prevent that, but oh well.
I just hope it drives well and like the GT86 keeps the legend of the old japanese sportscars going (AE86-GT86 / Z - 350z+370z/ GTR....)

I'm happy I didn't wait, because I would have to heavely modify it to really like it.

With the intro of this Supra I felt the heritage once built by this iconic model has gone down the drain.... even if it performs and handle well its not by Toyota! From mechanicals to switches and electronics I dare say its a Bimmer in disguise. I am shockingly surprise that Toyota being the No1 automotive manufacturer had to do this. I rather they stop and end at the last model and release something by themself at a later stage.

Even cost reduction is required come on please have some sense of genuineness. I can imagine its a lost model and make whether you are meeting the Toyota or Bimmer fan boys lol....

I will say I can think of some pros on this car. While it is no Supra, what you are probably getting is a fast, well handling BMW for less than you would normally pay and a better warranty to boot. It will probably be one of the best true sports cars you can get at around $50k.

It's only 3" shorter than the MK4 Supra. The 86 is a weird car IMO... it's a strange size (backseats are useless) with no power and the feel of a rental car. At least it can handle pretty well, but man it feels cheap inside...

and to me, that's what the 86 has always been. Small, cheap, enough power to have fun in the corners. Of course price wise, it isn't all that cheap.

I am exactly fine with it as a lower cost alternative but could have done it more tactfully under a separate model.

Until something breaks, then you will start seeing BMW like repair bills, not Toyota like.
