I took my GT2 to have her first oil change done and have them check out my creaky sunroof and a strange, tambourine sounding type rattle that was occurring whenever my rear tires went over bumps. The service manager and I took a ride and he heard the issues I was talking about. He took the car back and had it for a half hour or so then asked me to take another ride.

My car was absolutely silent on the test drive. No rattles/creaks from the sunroof, no tambourine sound from the rear of the car, nothing! Here's where it gets weird...he said my tires were over inflated and that can cause the noises we heard....WHAT?!?!?! They were inflated to 55 psi lol and he dropped them down to 38 and all noises are gone!

Maybe this is normal and some of you may say "Of course you idiot!!! Over inflating your tires will make your sunroof creak!" LOL But I gotta admit this surprised me

BTW...I didn't inflate them that much. Came new from the dealer that way:/

All Stingers have 50+ psi inflation from the dealer. They come that way and as far as the consensus goes, NO prep reduces psi anywhere. So far, not one member has chimed in and said, "My tires were inflated at or below 40 psi when I took possession."

But you are lucky. The rattling sunroof is not that simple.

It all makes sense. The cars are known to have over inflated tires which the dealer is supposed to check / air down during their inspection.
The harsher the impact the more creeks and rattles.

I now have a creeky sunroof since adding sways and subframe collars.

I will be the first to tell you @MerlintheMad , my dealer took care of the tires before I took possession of the car.

I just know that others have had the issue.

That's good, there has to be a first. Do I hear a second? :P

Yeah the explanation makes sense I just never thought it would effect the roof but i guess so. There still some minor creaking when I pull into the driveway due to chassis flex but that's not going anywhere without the "Westcoast Solution" lol. Until I need that...I'm happy!

Keep us posted !! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

WOW is all I can say this appears to be a huge issue for Kia dozens are people are receiving their cars with the PSI at 50+ from shipment. Mine had the same problem and they missed it at delivery in March and at the first oil change. Had to lower it myself.

Third. I had H&H Kia in Omaha put on my winter wheels/tires before I drove the car home in January, and when I put the summer wheels/tires on in April they checked out for correct pressure. So that and an uneventful first service last month gives me hope that my dealer service is at least competent.

What amazes me is that customers take test drives in cars with tires aired up hard as rocks, and I know that has to dissuade some from buying because of the harsh ride. When I take a test drive, one of the first things I check is the tire pressure.

The tires are over-inflated from the factory for several reasons - one is to seat the bead when the tires are first mounted. Another is to prevent flat spotting while the cars are being shipped and later sitting on lots. And last, cars transported on car carriers tend to bounce around, and hard tires help prevent that.

Oh, and my dealer DID set the tire pressures right when my car was prepped.

The dealers are supposed to set the PSI to the correct amount after they come off the truck not at delivery to the customer. What's what the service manager told me at my dealership but they blamed the dealership they got my car from for not doing it and then I blamed them for not checking it when they got it and not checking it at the first oil change. At that point, he gave up and stopped responding to my emails about it.

I was at 39-41 on all 4

My dealer did not check/change the pressures before I took delivery. They also did not check/update the pressures after two different tire rotations so I was running around 40 psi up front and around 36 psi in the back until I checked and changed them myself.

My tires were 37 from the dealer. I know this because I drove over a screw pretty much leaving the dealer and I instantly became familiar with the tire pressure display! They had to plug the tire within the week

38 all around

And my assertion of "consensus" goes down in flames. Where were all you all when this was being discussed before? :P
