Test drove 2019 GT AWD - vibrations a big turn off :(

Merlin, because I live in the northeast and 95% or more of the Stingers have 18" with the A/S Potenza's. It will probably take an act of god to find a 19" staggered Stinger. I am going to be in VA in about a month, so I am hoping to find 1 there. Starting the search now...

Whenever I try to pull a top speed run (and have failed because of cars up ahead) I have done it in Sport-manual mode and use the paddle shifters to shift myself. It gets up to speed faster than letting the tranny/computer do it itself. The 6-speed auto transmission in my '11 Bimmer (6-speed) tends to hang at red line and hold the gear longer before upshifting, wasting precious time and distance, so I usually take over the shifts.

Might be different in you area. Here in Mich, we only had AWD's available at the 2 dealers in my city plus 3-4 others within an hour. The inventories seemed to be split 50/50 18"/19". It'll pay to shop around.

I read through this topic but may have still missed this, but I didn't see if anyone addressed that the lane keeping assist was turned off on the test drive. When I drove my car home the first night I was wondering why it felt like it wanted to wander at certain speeds. Only a short time later did I realize it was the active steering of the lane assist feature. I didn't expect it to assert as much input as it did. I suppose this won't feel the same as what is described as a vibration, but worth checking it's off anyway before the next drive so it doesn't affect your steering sensations.

I didn't think the GT came Lane Keeping Assist? The car never beeped or felt like it was pulling me back to the lane. I think the GT just comes with cross-rear traffic alert and proximity alert (it beeped when I parked 3"-4" from a pole at the dealer lot). Not many options other than the standard heated/power seats and heated steering wheel. And I am fine with that, but IF I can find a GT2 for $39K in VA like another member said & posted link, heck I 'll get a GT2 :-) Sometimes though I feel those few cars left in the lot in December might have something wrong with them, or way too many miles from numerous test drives. Hope I am wrong..

I forgot you were referring to the GT which doesn't come with lane keeping standard. However it appears if it has the Drive Wise package it will have lane departure warning and lane keep assist. So that could be something to check on the sticker.

Around my area, there are still a few 2018 GT2s on the lot probably because of demographics and marketing. The dealer I bought from is in a far out suburb and never seemed to advertise they have a number of Stingers. I suspect they over-estimated its popularity. Can't imagine the number of Sedonas they sell instead.

No lane departure warning or lane assit. Only Blind spot monitoring, and Rear-cross traffic warning were on the window sticker, as well as parking distance warning. I have a picture of the sticker. That is it as far as safety electronics or "driver assist" features, for a lack of better words.

The 1st GT1 I drove had the same issues. Vibtrating wheel seat and buffering in the cabin. Drove a GT2 that felt the same. Drove a 2019 GT2 which was much better in the wheel and seat but had noise and vibration in the rear when cold.

The dealer told me he “fixed” the 1st one by putting it on a lift with 60 psi in the tires overnight then dropping and deflating the tires to 36/39 before I drove it and it was fine. I bought it!

I believe it is the tires.

You are in VA? Where in VA? There are a number of dealers around you can get a car from. I went to Winchester to get my Ceramic Silver/Red GT2, for my buddies car (same color combo) we went to Charlottesville. On KIA's site after you do a build out, you can see their inventory at the bottom of the screen and where they are located. Check the dealer site to see what they are selling for and then ring them up. I did all of my negotiations on the phone and email (for both cars), then drove to test drive and take delivery. We did the lease buyout as a number of folks here did. Let us know where you are located.

Yes. After months of complaints about Potenzas, anybody driving an AWD 18" setup off a dealer's lot, after months of sitting, is going to feel the flat spots; and I bet these tires get compromised by that long inactivity. Any vibration is going to cause/enhance any cabin "buffeting" as well.

As for still being on the lot after a year: does this mean there is something wrong with the cars that are left? That makes no logical sense unless the odometer shows a lot of miles. Just get a car with really low miles, make sure the tires are not a potential issue, and go from there. Obvious paint issues will have manifested long before now. Everything else should work: just sitting won't compromise the tech. Etc.

Yes, this is 1 of the methods used to fix flat spotted tires.
However, by the time I returned the car it had 60 miles on it. You would think the tires would have been fine after all that mileage. The dealer put almost 20 miles on the car between my 1st and 2nd test drive, mostly by the GM who said he took it on the hway for a while to check for the vibrations. He also said he had it up to 100mph. This guy likes to drive fast. He owns a 750i.

Anyway, this is a 2019 GT and they took delivery of it 2 months ago. That's not very long ago, unless these Potenza's get flat spots easily after a short time... ?

Back OT, I've driven two different Stinger Premiums the last couple of days, totaling well over 100 miles. Neither one of them had the vibration the OP talks about.

The nearest thing to a vibration was a tiny, slight "buzz" feel in the steering wheel when driving on very coarse concrete surfaces. The car mags would call that "road feedback", and congratulate the carmaker for it. ;)

Do the 4cyl. Premiums have the same Potenza tires as the AWD GT variants?

Wait, they let you put 50 miles on each new car test driving them? Wow.

OK so I emailed the GM asking them if they want to do the procedure of putting the car off the ground with 60psi overnight, and he agreed to do it if I show up early tomorrow for another test drive. Now I hope they do this properly, because I am going to be beyond PO'd if I went back a 3rd time and the car was the same, and I let him know this. Good thing is they 're only 5 miles away.

Harry The best option for you is to forget about buying a stinger....you have far too many negative vibes rattling around inside your noggin..........Oh snap ! I saw you yesterday....you had a tat that said anal on your forehead....right? :) Wash

Base GT, MicroBlue, 19" Wheels w/Michellin Sport, DriveWise package....No vibration, smooth ride, no breaking/rotor issues; but the hatch rattles like a %#^%#^%^%!

Can we close / lock this thread? My head hurtz.

Are you sure you weren't looking in the mirror? Or does the mirror crack when you do that?
:D:D

I had reservations about every car I bought. I know no car is perfect.

Yes, just ask for a BVA (Borrowed Vehicle Agreement) and most dealers will let you take the car home overnight if you're a current customer or if they feel you're a serious buyer.

Actually, I put about 10 miles on one Stinger, and felt it wasn't running right, so they got another one and I took it home and drove the piss out of it for over 90 more miles. lol.

BTW, the first Stinger was a brand new one with only 7 miles on it that hadn't been PDI'ed, and that was why it wasn't up to snuff.

Maybe we should be glad there's only1harry. :)
